  1. Minor League Splits has Samson as an above average defender as well(and Flaherty as a horrendous one).
  2. I'm not rooting for Wieters to bust, I'm saying let's not assume it's impossible he won't bust, or be merely average to good. Your comparison between Hermida and Wieters(HS v. College draftee) misses the point, that Hermida was pretty ridiculously good in AA for a full season(at a younger age than Wieters), and yet 3 years later he's not done a ton at the MLB level. The comparison is meant to point out that Wieters 1)hasn't played above AA; 2) has only 200 ABs above A ball; 3) is not without precedent for not immediately killing the ball at the MLB level. To reiterate, I'm not hoping that Wieters' busts, and there's not much else he could've done last year to help himself. What I'm saying is that we shouldn't be guaranteeing him such an illustrious career as it seems has happened in this thread and others where he pops up. EDIT: Alex Gordon would've been a better example than Hermida.
  3. Sorry, based on this thread I was assuming that everyone who completely dismantles AA pitching for one season is a sure-fire bet to do so for a decade at the MLB level.
  4. Jeremy Hermida 4 MVP
  5. What happens to Nate Samson then? Barney will be at Tennessee, and Flaherty at Daytona and Castro at Peoria leave him no place to play regularly. If they were going to move Flaherty, they might want to consider it now since Daytona doesn't have much in the way of a true 2B prospect lining up there.
  6. It's not quite as amusing if you're losing, so I'll say no.
  7. Crabtree may not be a physical freak, but nobody can stop him from catching the ball.
  8. because with the way minny has been shooting, we should be up by 20. 1.1% worse than U of I? Only took you 2 tries Copernicus. You try counting up the angry Illini comments and then doing basic math. I doubt either of you know, but is this being streamed anywhere?

  10. I was actually going with Sulley's "chet hits another strange shot". Apologies for the overly negative tally.
  11. 1st Half total Angry/negative comments from Illini fans: 14 Positive: 1(I think) Game: Illinois leads by 5
  12. Interesting to see Castro and Lake with Peoria.
  13. Mizzou smoked Kansas State by 20 in stage 1 of Operation: Keep kansas from winning the Big 12. Mizzou's now avenged both their conference losses with victories of 20+ points. Stage 2 comes Sunday where we will hopefully lose by only about 15 or so in Lawrence.
  14. BA is a big fan of Hart as a reliever. http://cubsminors.wikispaces.com/HartK
  15. viewtopic.php?p=2085077#p2085077 (Levine) viewtopic.php?p=2041881#p2041881 (Miles) viewtopic.php?p=2042187#p2042187 (Wittenmeyer with words from Kenney)
  16. We heard 140 million over and over again, and if it wasn't 140 million it was speculation that it was higher than that. Again, not to be rude, but what you and I heard is not more accurate than what Hendry knows. They wanted another LH bat and DeRo became the odd man out. Remember that they started last year with a $118 payroll. They added another $3.5 or so with Hardens trade and Wood added another $3.5 in bonuses on his contract. They finished at roughly $125. I'm not positive, but like you said, $140 seems to be the hard line. They are already there, no. At some point another $3.3 mil (difference between Miles/DeRo) has to matter. Two important factors: Their payroll is set up to increase yearly for '09 and '10. And they had to make expensive FA moves (Demp and Bradley). Somebody was going to fall victim to those factors. Those somebody's are DeRo, Marquis and Wood. My head hurts.
  17. We heard 140 million over and over again, and if it wasn't 140 million it was speculation that it was higher than that.
  18. What I'm saying is they could've skipped the Miles/DeRosa difference and still been at an acceptable payroll.
  19. The difference between DeRosa and Miles' salary is about the difference between our payroll and the 140 million mark that was widely reported as the budgeted payroll amount.
  20. This isn't really the correct way to think about anything. Miles shouldn't be in the lineup over Fontenot, but Miles and Fukudome are completely unrelated. They don't affect each other. Fukudome (unless he starts crushing the ball and you can't take him out of the lineup against LHP) should only be playing against RHP to start the season, while Miles should only be playing against LHP... if that. If Miles and Fukudome are in the same lineup that means one is facing their unfavorable split while a guy who rakes against that split (Fontenot against RHP, Johnson against LHP) is on the bench. That's why they're related in this conversation. Kosuke had no platoon split last year.
  21. what in the world, willie warren
