  1. Roldan was awesome and seeing Dempsey get two was nice, but this play from Morris might be my favorite from last night. [tweet]https://twitter.com/TotalMLS/status/767562417391988736[/tweet] He still has no left foot and isn't clinical around the net, but he's starting to do something like this at least once per game, so strong and fast.
  2. If you argue with someone back and forth for a half dozen replies and they land on some version of 'agree to disagree', replying with 'yeah you probably messed up the meaning of some words' is condescending.
  3. Best Records in MLB since the start of 2015: Team W L GB CHC 175 109 - STL 165 122 11.5 TOR 163 122 12.5 PIT 160 122 14 TEX 161 125 15 LAD 159 125 16 KC 158 127 17.5 WSN 156 128 19 CLE 151 131 23 SF 152 133 23.5 NYM 150 134 25
  4. Today is the ideal of the envisioned future for starting pitchers. Permanent piggybacks for all.

  6. the play by play is really bad, but it has nothing to do with my distaste for his bumbling goofy country bumpkin sounding ass. he's not good at speaking. he isn't funny or anything (as far as a redeeming quality) and i really have no idea what the basis is for saying he's solid..his analysis is generally as meatbally and conventional old school wisdom as anyone (not that most of his peers in his profession are generally much better - so maybe that's where you're coming from?) i don't like a single thing about him. the pbp is just icing on the cake. The distaste for his voice is largely a person by person opinion, but the other important thing to remember is that the bar isn't high here. Color guys who are truly good aren't going to be doing radio, so we shouldn't be hoping for much more than a good rapport with their partner(Ron has this, Moreland painfully did not), and an ability to add descriptions to plays to round out the listening experience(Ron is okay at this). There are no radio versions of JD.
  7. Because Coomer is a pretty solid radio color guy. It's inexplicable that they let him do PBP even if only one inning, but that colors most people's opinion of him.
  8. Grimm was demoted because he has options. Edwards has been great. Please consider how annoyed you are by a Cubs team on pace to win 103 games and has won 18 of their last 22. How miserable it must be to have these be the thoughts you dwell on.
  9. Or any world in which our other relief options are: An inconsistent Carl Edwards Justin Grimm who is apparently hated by Maddon Travis Wood ...and 2 rookies (Not including Montomery/Cahill at the moment) Our team is so good we'll overcome it most nights, but still it's annoying. Edwards has given up 0 or 1 baserunner in 14 of his last 15 outings. Grimm is hated by Maddon so much that he was given 8th inning duty in a 2 run game in his last outing.
  10. This loss lowers the Cubs winning percentage to .824 in August.
  11. seems a bit unjust that a runner retreating to 2nd base when a ball gets thrown out of play is entitled to home
  12. Mekkes at Eugene: 11.1 IP, 9 H, 3 ER, 15/4 K/BB
  13. Brian Price is apparently doing bullpen management tonight. To be fair, I'm pretty sure the bullpen management would be very different tonight if this game mattered beyond whether we clinch on September 8th or 9th I was under the impression that Zastryzny would be starting, but I guess Lackey to the DL killed the 6 man rotation for a while?
  14. The more I think about it, the more I wonder how Szczur didn't make that play at the plate a lot less close. It wasn't hit very deep, he caught it running to the plate, Lemahieu isn't slow but not super fast, and the thin air can only help.
  15. Yes, if you ignore the two great relievers who are temporarily hurt(one with a non-arm injury), come up with a reason to not like Edwards(who has been dominant), and also ignore Grimm who has been fantastic for a good while now, there is very little to trust in the bullpen.
  16. I have admittedly not watched games in their entirety much this month, but by my calculations Wood has thrown 20+ pitches in relief in about 75% of the last 30 games.
  17. my generation appreciates Tina Fey's comedy even if it means tolerating Lindsay Lohan
  18. Going to remember this as the one time TT is wrong when he dongs in game 1 of the World Series
  19. zero, the chance is zero percent that Schwarber comes back this year
