  1. Not that there was a particularly GOOD time to bring in Bastardo, but it's worth pointing out that this is the 5th consecutive RH he's faced since entering.
  2. I'm glad Willson put one to the wall so I don't have to feel bad about that balk call being the most ticky tack thing I've seen in a long time
  3. How on earth do you not list Rodriguez amongst the lunatics? http://i.imgur.com/WJYrcV7.gif
  4. The only Pirates that want to be playing baseball right now are the lunatics(Harrison, Cervelli, Rodriguez). Everyone else wants to go home.
  5. amazing restraint by every umpire not to kick Cervelli every time he goes into his crouch
  6. The only purpose of this game is maximizing humiliation for Harrison
  7. Add Clint Hurdle to the list of managers who don't care if his infielders live or die
  8. I will forever root for Perakslis to make the big leagues just to make a BOW BEFORE PERAKSLIS joke. Farris and McNeil have some middle relief potential too.
  9. kinda weird to bring him up on 8/31, but I guess you can tell Pena or Patton to hang out at home for a day and not be any worse off.
  10. He also might be a better reliever than Montgomery outright.
  11. ugh, brain fart on my part That leaves the door open to considering Montgomery over Hammel I guess, although as much as they seem to not trust 2nd half Hammel I'd be surprised if they entrusted Montgomery with a potential postseason start just so they could have two middle inning lefties.
  12. Wood is pitching full innings/facing RHP because the regular season is a long grind without many days off, and multiple late inning relievers are hurt. Neither will be true in the playoffs. Wood isn't going to be asked to get Justin Turner or Buster Posey out in the playoffs when Chapman, Rondon, Strop, Edwards, and Grimm are all there and there's multiple off days over the course of a 5-7 game series.
  13. I don't think Almora makes the roster, they aren't going to defensively replace Fowler and the difference in 1-2 innings of Almora in LF over Szczur isn't all that much. Plus they can use Baez in a similar fashion by moving Bryant/Zobrist to the OF. Last year they went 11 pitchers for both the NLDS and NLCS and kept 5 starters, which means Cahill is definitely out, and Hammel bumps a reliever, I'll guess Montgomery. It also looks like Montero is trending towards not being on the roster, but with 14 position players I don't see a path to leaving him out if Almora isn't there. The wild card is if they want another Quentin Berry type on the roster. The closest thing in Iowa is Kris Negron and he's a poor man's Quentin Berry, so they'd need to go outside the org and do it today. That's what could push Montero(or Coghlan if he doesn't hit in September) off the roster. So basically, Apete's roster, plus Hammel and Coghlan, minus Montgomery and Almora, with the chance a speedster bumps Coghlan or Montero.
  14. Cubs players trying to say and spell Zastryzny's name
  15. Nigel De Jong to Galatasaray. Good riddance, now he can't snap any more legs in MLS.
  16. Diaz also hadn't pitched since the 26th and before that the 22nd. Having him go 2 innings/30-40 pitches makes sense to me in that circumstance.
  17. Grimm is a good mental image for what Clifton could be. Clifton is also 6-1 and has that weirdly abbreviated delivery working against his chances as a starter too.
  18. Day off for the veterans, rewarding Javy and Soler for big nights where they had a terrific approach at the plate and big opposite field hits. Nothing about Kuhl's repertoire screams Javy/Soler-friendly to me.
  19. For someone who wasn't able to follow this one closely, would someone kindly explain what aspect of the umpiring I should be indignant about? Strike zone was very bad in general, but the worst was Cervelli's at bat in the 7th inning. Called strike 3 a ball twice, the latter time coming when the runner was going and out on the throw, turning a double play into 1st and 2nd(both runners scored with 2 outs). Baez was also safe at the plate in the 10th inning, although Gibson can share the blame with New York for being too spineless to end the game on a review, even though that was easily the correct call.
  20. I'm pretty bummed that whygavs went private on Twitter
