  1. Weah just got his own Lackeyfun.gif moment on camera
  2. Bale off with an injury for Wales, as long as England stay tied the chance of them getting the shock winner is still there, but hopes are waning edit: no sooner did I type this and England score
  3. They really need to get the 2nd early in the half so the inevitable Acosta for Musah doesn't kill the attack
  4. Need some earlier subs than we've had so far. I'm not exactly sure who they should be outside of taking off a hurt Pulisic, but we can't let Iran increase the desperation against tired legs in Game 3 and not sub til 70'.
  5. I wanted the US to play at the world cup, I said yes this is the experience that I would prefer, who wouldn't want to be a ball of anxiety for 3 matches and wait for set piece coinflips to decide your fate
  6. I was really hoping his middle name was like Jefferson or something, but Wikipedia says it's Shaan, which is arguably cooler.
  7. CCV supposedly in for his pace and maybe his passing, which sure I can buy he's better than Zimmerman on the margins. But Zimmerman is a good bit better in the air and breaking in a brand new CB pairing after conceding nothing from open play for 2 games seems like a lot of risk for not a lot of benefit.
  8. CCV, okay then
  9. Not looking like a great cycle for CONMEBOL at the moment. Peru lost to Australia in the intercontinental playoff, Ecuador is 45 minutes from blowing a chance at the knockouts to Mane-less Senegal, and Argentina already lost to Saudi Arabia. Of course Argentina can get their stuff together and Brazil look like the engine of death they normally do, so for all I know it'll be an all-CONMEBOL final.
  10. I think you've gotta have Weston in there, he's huge for set pieces and is our best scoring threat from midfield that isn't just repurposing a winger into that position. I bet we'll stay with the 4-3-3 with minimal changes, basically the Wales lineup with maybe Aaronson in for Musah. Reyna gets 30-40 minutes for Weah, Ferreira replaces Sargent if he runs out of steam, Wright gets tossed on for a defender if we need a goal.
  11. If you give Abreu 20 million AAV and pay a SS, you're gonna have to shop at the bottom of the barrel for most of your other needs in order to stay under the LT. Especially given what these early deals imply about what FA's are going to cost. Abreu would've been very useful but ultimately it's going to be easier to find a professional hitter with fewer marginal dollars than it will be to find a starting CF, C, or SP.
  12. Like the "my work here is done"/"but you didn't do anything" meme come to life
  13. 12 million it is. Not great for the odds of doing much better if someone like Walker or Taillon is on the menu
  14. Oof, get well soon. I took last week off and woke up to 11 goals before I could even caffeinate in my first day back in the office, and now I have a ton to catch up on so I'm limiting myself to only blocking my calendar for the 2nd half tomorrow (for now).
  15. 1. I think an argument can be made that a team in the Cubs' position can afford some inefficiency to avoid talent drains, especially for a player with a well rounded skill set like Happ's, but as a LF-only player they can stomach that better than most other positions. 2. I could probably be talked into Heaney as SP1 in some circumstances, but it probably depends on the contract. If he's getting 2/20ish like contract crowdsourcing says, then you could do some fun things with the rest of the roster, especially if you also took a swing with SP2(e.g. Rogers) 3. YES, I would go as far as to say that Phillips is not unique in this regard, but there are a number of low salary/low trade cost CFs that could fit well here in the name of saving resources to use elsewhere. 4/5. The Cubs won't become a championship contender again without stars, and as much as they may be able to approximate a similar average win total in 2023 without one of the SS, they will be further away from consistent title contention if they don't get a SS. My thoughts on Swanson are documented already but I would much rather take Bogaerts' bat to the bank than the ambiguity that comes with Swanson's bat and the uncertain degree of his defensive excellence.
  16. I'll be curious to see what the contract looks like. Based on projections he was in that group that would be a little too underwhelming for SP1 but a little too expensive for SP2 in most situations. 'More than 8 million' doesn't really tell me much since I would've been shocked if he got less than 8.
  17. Canada continuing their trend of being weirdly bad in tournament play, especially since their play style and strengths should be well suited.
  18. Unless Japan beats Spain, right? Then Spain and Germany would be on 4 and Spain probably has the GD. Unlikely but with the way this Cup is going, I'm not ruling anything out. A Japan/Spain draw would also make it come down to GD/tiebreakers in that situation.
  19. I swear every day I wake up and the early game was either a scoreless draw or a shock upset by a team that was supposed to lose by 3
  20. They can technically advance with any result in the Argentina/Poland game, but both a draw and an Argentina win require some difficult goal differential magic to get there. Plus Saudi Arabia is through with a win or maybe a draw themselves, and Mexico hasn't created anything offensively so far, so they are in deep trouble.
  21. this is a very dangerous few minutes for Mexico, 3-0 would make advancement a really tough proposition
  22. As weird as it would be to start 3 strikers in 3 games, I kinda think this is a game for Ferreira. He's good at connecting play and excellent at counter pressing, against CONCACAF bunkers he regularly created turnovers in dangerous areas. For similar reasons I'd think about Aaronson coming in for Musah, if not at the start then as a semi-early sub, which also helps manage Musah's workload.
