  1. Is there not VAR to see that McKennie obviously shouldn’t be sent off? There was the last nations league. I really hate that we constantly draw this ref because of nationality rules
  2. Oh did Mexico turn into goons under the slightest bit of adversity, well I never
  3. Rojas jumping to Myrtle Beach and immediately hitting everything in sight is super fun
  4. When did Zastryzny start looking like he walked onto the field after a shift tending bar in rural Indiana
  5. Paul Tenorio reporting from multiple sources that Berhalter is coming back, so that should be that.
  6. Woah that embed is simultaneously perfect for my post and also...a lot. Yeah the Gio thing and potentially losing the locker room would be the main thing that would be concerning to me. Based on the (sometimes unprompted) support he's had from basically everyone in the group I think the locker room will be fine. I wouldn't begrudge someone wanting to try someone different(and I'm at least curious about many of the names I've seen listed as opposed to repulsed), but I do think that carries a lot of risk and the root of a lot of that discontent comes down to people trying to use a club soccer lens to evaluate international play.
  7. Let me put your fears at ease: Berhalter is good. He hasn't been tweeting much lately, but Matt Doyle's last 24 hours or so of retweets is a pretty good summation:
  8. I'm normally not a 'rivalry over long term success' guy but I'm gonna say it's never better to lose to Mexico
  9. It should really be Mastrobuoni. He's not needed in the OF, Madrigal will be just as useful at 3B against RHP you want to shield Wisdom/Morel from, and even if Bellinger needs to play some 1B/DH for a bit there's no reason Mervis can't be the other one since Mancini/Morel/Wisdom all have their issues and would have platoon disadvantage.
  10. Mastro has played one (1) inning in the OF since he was sent down when Seiya got healthy, so I don't think he'd be part of the crowding. Assuming he even survives the Bellinger roster move.
  11. The Cardinals are on pace to win 63 games. They have won less than 70 games(or the equivalent in shorter seasons) once in the last 97 years, and that one year(1978) they were only one win shy of 70.
  12. This is a little devil's advocate but not entirely: does he? Morel has undeniable tools but he also is a 45 prospect who hadn't had excellent minor league results until this most recent stint at Iowa. His future role is along the lines of second division starter or utility man on a good team that plays more often than not. His recent usage is the likely good outcome, and doubly so when you consider that he's been a negative with the glove(that part I don't think is permanent). Now if the Cubs are 15 games out in August I'd rather he get the reps than Mastrobuoni even in a bad matchup, but I also don't fault them for playing to win at this point in the season. Morel is likely Wisdom reincarnated, which is a useful thing and great to have at 24 instead of 31 but also a player who will be exploited and you know you need to hedge against from a roster perspective.
  13. He's started 6 of the 11 games this month, they just aren't going to blindly pencil his name in every day, and the RH SP with velocity and extreme splits is a good example of a matchup to avoid for the time being. The next 2 games the SP are a 27 year old debutant with bad AA/AAA numbers and TBD, so seems likely we'll get at least one if not 2 Morel starts in this series.
  14. He looks really bad in the outfield and has a 28 wRC+(now like 55) since his HR streak ended
  15. It was not so long ago that the Cubs gave up Jeimer Candelario to get a LH RP that threw 95. Now every NRI/waiver wire castoff they can find does it.
  16. Yeah well Girardi just said "moister" so at least we're getting fun bad alternatives
  17. Going by radar the heavy stuff seems to be gone, but seems like a possibility of ongoing precipitation for a while yet.
  18. Estrada got sent to Iowa too, and Anthony Kay is up to replace him. Burdi got moved to the 60 day to make room on the 40 man, which is a tough break to get your shot at the MLB pen and then have an appendectomy put you on the shelf for 2 months.
  19. That wasn't even a bad pitch and Joc put it out to left center, did he tip it or something?
  20. Dustin Kelly is from California, hope for his sake he was at least glancing at the real estate ads while the team is out there.
  21. I'm sorry how in the world is that the rule and not that Madrigal has to make an attempt to leave towards third, especially when the tag influences his ability to stay on the base.
  22. PCA since that (mysterious?) week off in the middle of the May: 71 PA, .298/.422/.586, 4 HR, 19/10 K/BB
  23. Gonna set this out here for Tom like it's a pie on a windowsill tempting a cartoon dog
  24. Does anyone know what the big knock is against Brayden Taylor? I've read good things about his swing and batted ball data, the results seem strong(and he's kicking it up a notch against better competition since the regular season), and it doesn't seem by body type or scouting blurbs that he's a risk of moving off 3B(though maybe not a plus there).
