  1. Yeah Rios is the 27th man and Velazquez is one of a couple guys who traveled to be part of a taxi squad for the series.
  2. This is wild Swanson: 324 PA, 2.9 fWAR Correa, Bogaerts, and Turner combined: 918 PA, 3.7 fWAR
  3. Pretty sure if you're an outfielder and Madrigal burns you for an XBH you have to take a boat back home
  4. Hughes is done for the year as well, they opted for surgery on the knee problem he was trying to tough out since spring training.
  5. Smoltz saying he watches too much golf to start watching Ted Lasso is a level of Smoltziness previously thought to be unreachable
  6. Golden opportunity for Arenado to answer the "what's different about this game" question with "well Ken normally I don't have to do interviews while I'm warming up before an inning"
  7. There's demand for trade rumors and I don't think the media is collectively internalizing how non-obvious a lot of teams trade deadline decisions are at this point, so there's gonna be a bunch of 'Team A was bad last year so they might sell this guy to expected contender Team B even though Team A is closer to the playoffs than B'. That's not literally true in the case of Bellinger to the Yankees, but thematically it's still assuming Cubs sell Yankees buy without a ton of thought. As for the literal rumor, I'll be surprised if Bellinger is traded. Even if the Cubs fall out of the division race while Bellinger gets hot, I don't think they'll get anything better than the comp pick for him. Maybe with fewer sellers you'll see teams get more aggressive with their offers, or maybe Jed would feel the heat to get more immediate ROI than a comp pick, but I don't see those as likely.
  8. Gotta be careful with stuff like FB% when there's such a stark difference in balls in play. At South Bend, Horton(who is down to 42% after last night) has given up 3.6 FB per start, or 0.9 per IP. Gallardo, despite a 36% FB%, is giving up 5.2 FB per start and a shade over 1.0 per IP
  9. I'm pleased with Ferris' performance so far, but in what way is it anywhere close to what Horton is doing in South Bend.
  10. Mayo with an updated mock that's a fair bit different than others I've seen: https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-pipeline-2023-mock-draft-june-22 Skenes goes #1, Wilson #6, Troy and Bradfield fall to the 20s. Cubs take Taylor with Dollander, Waldrep, Shaw, Troy, and Bradfield still on the board.
  11. Horton's last 5 starts: 22 IP, 15 H, 4 ER, 39/4 K/BB, 1 HR
  12. It’s an energy drink that bought the naming rights to the sports teams from Louisiana Tech
  13. I would assume that's with the intention of making him the new Cuadrado, which is I guess better at Juve than it is at Lille since Juve are so ball dominant that he'll be playing high up the field more than some wingers at lesser clubs do.
  14. He's Ortega redux, post-prime but well rounded and good enough to have a run of good form at the MLB level that elevates from bench/AAAA bat to 2nd division starter for a while. Him turning on a ball for a HR in this series is a really good sign, because he clearly has a discerning eye but he wasn't really driving the ball so I without that change I'd be afraid pitchers eventually try(and succeed) at knocking the bat out of his hands.
  15. Got dang it I mistook Orosco for John Franco the other day and it was driving me nuts that I could not place Orosco's name when my guess was wrong.
  16. In June (entering today) they are 13th in wRC+ and 22nd in ERA(with even worse FIP/xFIP). Or more simply, they're 14-6 this month with a +8 run differential, which is really hard to do! Maybe they won't have such an immediate and damaging nosedive as Pittsburgh losing 9 straight to division opponents, but I don't see a lot of sign that they're on the upswing compared to riding a hot streak that doesn't look very sustainable.
  17. Yeah the schedule has been fairly kind too. As of yesterday there were 6 teams who were 5+ games out of playoff contention. The Reds have played those teams 22 times, compared to 10 for the Cubs and 15 for the Brewers.
  18. I started last week and it is fun but also surprisingly frustrating. There's always at least one where I get tunnel vision and ignore a blindingly obvious answer for something obscure. Like somehow my brain decided that the only Dodger/Cardinal it could find was not *Albert Pujols*, but Jonathan Broxton.
  19. Need to get Happ some AR glasses that has every opponent wearing a Pirates jersey.
  20. Madrigal finally hits a ball 380 feet and he does it at PNC national forest
  21. Made got an essentially identical promotion last year in terms of age and point in the Low-A season. Baez got bumped to High A in this age year as well but only got about 25 games in before end of season.
  22. I haven't been to as many as I would've guessed, though I'm not including Riverfront and Three Rivers since I was so young I don't have much memory. It's easier for me to do tiers (year last visited in parentheses): Tier 1: Wrigley (2022), Coors (2019), Target Field (2018) Tier 2: Rogers Centre (2017), Kauffman (2017) Tier 3: Nationals Park (2014), Busch (2022), Progressive Field (2003), Guaranteed Rate (2014)
  23. I also enjoyed that after 20 minutes of Aaronson harassing Davies they're like 'no let's make Davies an inverted winger rather than deal with this'
