  1. The Canadian CMs are starting to get tired of being clowned, Osorio's getting at least a yellow if he goes 90
  2. someone please rescue Weah from France
  3. lol Balogun just told Scott Kennedy "you are not on my level" with one stiff arm
  4. It's weird, best as I can tell Freese got elected and is now declining and not really saying why. The common guesses are that he doesn't feel worthy of that title(he doesn't by production, he's getting it for one 2011 WS at bat + being a local boy), and/or that he had alcohol/substance problems during those days and is uncomfortable celebrating the person he was then.
  5. Keegan isn't back to his old self, but he at least seems to have stopped the bleeding at Iowa. Last 3 outings: 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 9/4 K/BB
  6. Yeah that seems like an understatement This is also why whatever optimism I might have about the Cubs doesn't really change with what the Pirates are doing, that rotation isn't gonna stay solvent the whole year either.
  7. I think some umpire criticism neglects how difficult the job is, but boy is Bucknor just shockingly bad at this. 6 inches outside, not on the same side of the plate as the spot so there's only a stab and no frame, no tail, one of the most inexplicably bad calls I've seen in ages.
  8. Kinda surprised Wesneski isn't the one warming here, I guess Steele did give them 5 so it's not absolutely necessary, but if he's a reliever now then middle relief is his new home and with recent usage he'd be the fresh arm.
  9. Longenhagen updated his draft rankings: https://www.fangraphs.com/prospects/the-board/2023-mlb-draft Of note for players who could make it to the Cubs, Dollander, Lowder, and Troy get 50 grades, and Lowder, Wilson, Teel, Meyer, and Morales are 45+. His quick write up on the update had this which is Cubs-relevant (emphasis mine):
  10. Maybe, but Taylor is listed and he's still playing too.
  11. I'd agree, the Cubs also play the Pirates again next week so if you're wanting maximum short term standings benefit you can make the case they'll have the chance to continue climbing against them immediately.
  12. Nine is always batting around regardless of inning, the fact that there isn't technically another inning for a guy to be due up doesn't change anything since that first guy already hit. Again, 'everyone got to hit' is a simple and noteworthy thing to have a phrase for, and it means consecutive innings will/would have the same leadoff hitter if it stopped exactly at 9. 'Everyone got to hit plus another hitter' has no purpose and is why anyone saying 10 tries to jump through hoops with definitions of a circle.
  13. In your example, Nico doesn't have a line to his left when he starts the inning, so the act of him taking at at bat moves the line to the right/around the circle. That means Madrigal's at bat does the same thing, closing the circle at 9.
  14. The phrase exists to describe a noteworthy event, "everyone hit" is noteworthy, "everyone hit and this other guy hit twice" is not. I will never cease to be baffled that this even exists as a debate, it's like talking to someone from a different version of earth.
  15. I'm sorry but that is incorrect and now you must go to baseball jail. It brings me no pleasure to report this but I don't make the rules.
  16. Seems notable that Troy isn't in that list of college bats he's tying to them.
  17. Hendricks is calling his own game it looks like, was that the case with his previous starts?
  18. Good to make mental note that while sometimes injuries are worse than initially feared(Bellinger and Hoerner's IL stints being recent examples), that isn't necessarily the norm. Happ just needed one day as a DH before he was back diving in the OF and legging out triples after his calf tightened up on him, and while Steele may be back on the shelf again in the future, that risk permanently exists for pitchers and he's gonna end up missing the minimum for his IL stint.
  19. I'd even go back to him not having the courage to send off Antuna for basically committing a targeting penalty on Reyna(would have been his second yellow), and it took like 2 minutes for Mexico to take that as an invitation to just take pot shots.
  20. I thought maybe he just forgot since he had VAR taking to him, hilarious. Oh look more goonery, so long clowns
