  1. Even the good teams have bad benches. With the DH that's another spot to spend money on and even less opportunity to spread across the rest of the bench.
  2. There technically is(losing teams have to be down 8+ runs, winning teams 10+ and only in the 9th), it's just not equipped to punish teams for de facto forfeiting so early. My modest suggestion is every out you get with a position player you forfeit offensively, but I get that's potentially too disruptive so forcing losing teams to put real pitchers on the mound til the 8th feels like a good compromise.
  3. They also put a position player on the mound in the bottom of the 6th, which really bugs me more than it should. Not the first time they've forfeited while still requiring their opponent to use real major leaguers to get multiple innings of outs.
  4. It's a day game after a night game against a tough lefty starter. The individual games are not that crucial that it's worth hand wringing that PCA play through this stretch so he can be rested against a worse team(and worse SP)
  5. US loses two games by a combined 6-2 and the Fire win 7-1, this is the best week of Gregg Berhalter's life
  6. We already tried this with Nicky Lopez, who had the added benefit of hitting left handed. Don't see a whole lot of benefit in shuffling out Brujan in favor of another RHH who is 3rd, maybe 4th in the pecking order to play at 3B?
  7. Honestly bases loaded 0 outs is maybe better than 2nd/3rd 1 out in this situation
  8. We don't have to do this thing where we get anxious that the last 10 days are about to be the permanent norm, it is the most freeing thing about baseball season. Something really good happened? Enjoy it, it's unexpected and it probably won't last. Something bad? Easy come easy go, the next regression is around the corner. Btw, the 2 best teams in the NL against > .500 records last year were the Braves and Brewers, who proceeded to go 1-4 in the playoffs and play 0 games in the divisional/championship series.
  9. I dunno man I'm only gonna do so much leg work to debunk the absurd contortions people will do to create points of worry. Apparently games in April don't count unless they're in the last week of April because that's when the real teams really get going? Maybe it has to do with the phase of the moon or something
  10. The Dodgers are 12-11 against teams currently in playoff position, the Cubs are 9-13. If you think that's a meaningful distinction over that sample size, I don't know what to tell you.
  11. That's how it works, the other good teams aren't magically playing .700 ball against other good teams
  12. Yesterday he was on the dirt and in Shaw's direct path when he was trying to throw home
  13. Very curious if the Red Sox feel like they're about out of ideas to get Bello to another level, and if the newer Cubs pitching infrastructure feels they can unlock something in him.
  14. This is also right before the 2016 team had their worst stretch of the season, from June 6 to the All-Star break they went 13-19. But yeah, the 2016 team is one of the best teams ever, so even being in shouting range of comparison is a great result.
  15. Miller is basically Scott Effross, someone who gets by with guile and deception/arm angle more than stuff. As such he's never gonna be a guy who you want handling leverage innings, and it's become pretty crowded for a middle reliever without options in the current pen so they're willing to let him go and ride with one of the other similar options.
  16. Atlanta won the world series of disappointing NL teams
  17. The Fire are getting their own stadium in the south loop, this should be nice https://www.chicagofirefc.com/news/dear-chicago-a-letter-from-club-owner-joe-mansueto
  18. Will Benson is a fraudulent ballplayer, he's like you asked a football fan to design a baseball player in a lab
