  1. Couldn't be, we would've heard about it from grandpa
  2. (the answer is in the picture)
  3. Morgan aside from that single bad outing in AZ: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 4/2 K/BB
  4. I think he's toast if he's sent, but once the rundown happened I think it may have been worth going for it once that ball goes to Mookie.
  5. Your narratives for how everyone(whether it's this community or prospect media) is viewing a player are always wrong, like 100% failure rate. It's exhausting to constantly read your attempts to rail against made up groupthink, just say the thing you think about the player whether you think it goes against conventional wisdom or not.
  6. The front office made a significant investment in trading for Tucker knowing full well his contract situation. The idea that they need to consider trading him at the deadline when the main things that have happened since are 1) the Cubs getting off to a good start 2) Tucker hitting very well for 2 weeks and 3) Vlad getting a big contract implies a lack of conviction from the front office that doesn't really make sense. If you're of the mind that Tucker needs to go in July you're likely weighing one or more of a few things differently than the front office. They are either more comfortable with Tucker leaving and banking the comp pick to hedge the price they paid, they value a competitive season where the team has the chance to make the playoffs and win the world series, or (most likely) they have more optimism about keeping Tucker beyond this year.
  7. 'victory flags' = someone posted a tweet (with no commentary) highlighting a fun early season stat
  8. There are 5 off days in the next 20 days, so they don't even *need* Rea to make more than 1-2 starts even if Steele is a bit longer than the minimum stay. Hopefully that means they're being opportunistic about a more minor concern.
  9. Even if he's safe what exactly is Semien doing there, you can't be that afraid of a DP to risk one of 2 outs to spare when you're down 4.
  10. I don't think there's a black and white answer to what they *will* do, but if I had to guess I think Brujan gets DFA'd. He was added at a minimal cost and before they were able to get Berti signed, so I think you can argue that he's closer to a flyer that they aren't going to be attached to now that they have more info(Berti signed, Workman's ST performance, Brujan's ST performance). But you can argue similarly for Brujan over Workman so I don't think it's an 80/20 odds of their decision.
  11. The contact play worked, somewhere UMFan is confused and a little happy and he doesn't know why
  12. Victory+ is the most Texas-sounding streaming service I've ever heard I feel your pain though, this is my situation with Cardinals games since they took their RSN off Youtube TV
  13. I'm waffling back and forth on the Tucker impact. On one hand, an out of shape DH who hasn't had consecutive great seasons getting 35M AAV until the heat death of the universe is not *good* news for the Cubs keeping him. But on the other hand, it didn't necessarily set a new benchmark that was previously thought to be beyond Tucker's reach. He was always gonna get a greater AAV, and the specific amount above that is a bit more squishy. Maybe he'll push harder for 12/510 or something, but the length is always gonna be the hard part to get agreement on so the Vlad news may not make a huge difference on that axis.
  14. It's just not rational to think 'ah yes this level of walk rate from these relievers was clearly foreseeable'. And the diminishing stuff bit is largely a post-hoc justification and not even particularly true, Pressly's velocity is the same as it was last year, Pearson's is higher! Sometimes weird stuff happens in small samples, especially when you have an abnormal calendar to start the year and you're facing a bunch of good offenses in a row(note that BBs were not a problem against the A's). Sometimes the bad stuff will continue, I'm concerned about Pressly not missing bats on top of the walks. But not every upsetting day from the pen(or the offense, or a SP) has to be proof positive of a structural issue.
  15. Thielbar's BB% last year was a career-worst 11.1% and after today it is north of 26%. Pearson ran a sub-4% BB% as a Cub and is currently at 14%, his worst since before his arm surgery. Pressly hadn't been above 9% for 9 years running and after today is 20%. For context, average teamwide BB% from RP as of today is about 10%.
  16. I don't really see an organizational approach thing there. The biggest culprits for walks so far have been Pressly, Thielbar, and Pearson, none of whom have the history with walks that would suggest that. It's mostly a 'relievers are very random over a handful of outings' thing, along with 'relievers are pretty random year to year' and possibly a bit of a coaching/pitch-calling phenomenon. Playing the offenses they have doesn't help either.
  17. Turner's spot in the order is due up 3rd and you still need to score, so he found it preferable to guaranteeing Workman a high leverage PA. That can be mitigated slightly if you pinch run Workman for Kelly and then put Amaya in for Turner, but still probably an offensive downgrade.
  18. Alex Cohen, who used to do Iowa games. He'll be the primary Boog replacement on Sundays or otherwise, is my understanding. So no Zaidman or Beth Mowins.
  19. Honestly surprised that Counsell didn't challenge out of spite, and to keep Arraez on the bases.
  20. Looks like he's eligible the series before the Cubs, and watching the highlights this morning it didn't look super serious(pulled up lame running out an XBH), so I wouldn't be surprised if he's back. But 10 days isn't a ton of time and the Cubs are the back end of a Dbacks road trip so decent chance that ready or not they wait til they're back at home the ensuing series(with an off day for good measure)
  21. weak groundout, umpire-assisted walk, single, weak groundout, K against the meat of the Padres order
  22. would be just dandy if we could get strikes called strikes
  23. The amount of fascinating money psychology in this is incredible. A laundry list of quotes from big leaguers about what they are super frugal/cheap about: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6236437/2025/04/04/mlb-players-money-saving-hacks/ Also this got me:
