I don't really see an organizational approach thing there. The biggest culprits for walks so far have been Pressly, Thielbar, and Pearson, none of whom have the history with walks that would suggest that. It's mostly a 'relievers are very random over a handful of outings' thing, along with 'relievers are pretty random year to year' and possibly a bit of a coaching/pitch-calling phenomenon. Playing the offenses they have doesn't help either. -
Turner's spot in the order is due up 3rd and you still need to score, so he found it preferable to guaranteeing Workman a high leverage PA. That can be mitigated slightly if you pinch run Workman for Kelly and then put Amaya in for Turner, but still probably an offensive downgrade.

Alex Cohen, who used to do Iowa games. He'll be the primary Boog replacement on Sundays or otherwise, is my understanding. So no Zaidman or Beth Mowins.

Honestly surprised that Counsell didn't challenge out of spite, and to keep Arraez on the bases.

Looks like he's eligible the series before the Cubs, and watching the highlights this morning it didn't look super serious(pulled up lame running out an XBH), so I wouldn't be surprised if he's back. But 10 days isn't a ton of time and the Cubs are the back end of a Dbacks road trip so decent chance that ready or not they wait til they're back at home the ensuing series(with an off day for good measure)

Setting aside Tokyo, PCA has a K rate under 20% and a BB rate above 10, and it's nigh impossible for me to be worried about him at the plate while those things are true.

Bringing in Morgan at all is the attempt to try to optimize for that day, Thielbar didn't have it so since they had the lead they were more aggressive bringing in someone to stop the bleeding after his walks. Once Morgan got shelled and you lost the lead there isn't another reasonable option unless you want to be in a big hole for Monday. It's not a black and white decision but it's an example of Counsell managing for more than just today. The pen put you in a bind, and you can either: 1) just let Morgan wear it and preserve the pen as much as possible for the next 3 days without an off day 2) make the problem worse on Monday on the off chance that Rea escapes a man on 2nd 1 out situation with no further damage and the team comes back on the Dbacks rested closer

Morgan was very good in both of his outings prior to yesterday. I don't expect him to be an 8th/9th inning pillar, but if we're going to pretend that him having to wear a bad day because of team circumstances is a sign he's awful, we should probably weigh that against him looking excellent against multiple teams already in the young season.

I think the expiration of Covid-era transfer rules will cool this down a fair amount, and I think this year is a touch fluky to begin with. Even if a bunch of 12-14 seeds didn't win, that still means the 1 seeds had to make it through harder paths against power conference foes and that's not very likely on average. Also the transfer portal moves players in all directions, not just upwards mobility to power conference schools. Using Southern Illinois as an example again, 4 of their Top 6 players in minutes were transfers.
