  1. What would you accept for a player of Aramis Ramirez's value? That's pretty close to what Dunn is.
  2. Because of 2 ABs? He should start because he's better against RH than Holla and Hairston.
  3. Last year Pierre hit 40 points better than his expected BABIP. This year he's 30 points under.
  4. That game was pretty memorable though for how bad one particular player played, and he admitted as such after. I got 9/10 but made educated guess on like half of them. The one I got wrong was the Lee homer thing. What did you guess?
  5. Welcome to the Forum! Weird fact. A Giant has one the last 5 NL MVP's(Bonds x4 and Kent). To answer your question, A-Rod in 2003 for Texas.
  6. I dig the modern uniforms. I don't like the retro craze.
  7. I saw "Sammy has a selfish swing", and I was done reading the article.
  8. We did dicuss it, and i think the general feeling is that the club doesn't think much of Grieve. Gerut and Grieve are very similar, though. BTW, any news on a 25 man move to clear room for Gerut?? One of the papers said either Mitre or Grieve. But I see no reason to keep Grieve around so it'll probably be him. Conversely, what reason is there to keep Mitre around? I'd really like to see the pen go down to 6. Because there's no reason to keep Grieve with Holly and Gerut on the roster? Or they could send Mitre AND Grieve down and bring up a RH bat. I see what you're saying, but I'd rather have the right number of bench players before worrying about what to do with the extra spot. What RH bat did you have in mind?
  9. I'm interested in Pierre, but only at a certain cost, that said however...... PLEASE don't try to use 31 at bats over 3 years to imply anything even remotely resembling statistical significance. I don't mean this as any personal attack, but it drives me nuts to see stats tossed around like each and every number has 100% relevance. If there's anything I've learned about using statistics in my work place, it's that you can make almost any statistic look good or bad depending on how it's "twisted" and presented. If we were able to get Pierre somehow without giving up anything significantly affecting the current team or the future I say go for it - Hendry has worked some magic in the past, I have no reason to think he can't do it again. Oh, and someone mentioned in an earlier post that long grass in Wrigley will hamper Pierre's ability to bunt for hits - I'm not sure I understand that theory - in fact I always thought it would work the other way around. What am I missing? I thought the argument wasn't that it would hurt his ability to bunt, but that his ability to slap ground balls(which is how he gets many of his hits) would be hindered by the long grass.

  11. Regression to the mean. It's almost impossible to stay 10 games over .500 when you're getting outscored on the whole.
  12. Welcome! I know the thought of more reading sounds daunting, but there have been a boatload of posts addressing the exact concerns you bring up. If you can't find them a simple search for Dunn and strikeout will find that argument made and countered many times over. In short, Dunn has a lower average, but has a great OBP and outstanding power. He's one of the most productive players in the league, and he's still only 25 years old. If he's available as rumored, the Cubs would be foolish not to jump at the chance to acquire him.
  13. Gerut is likely just another late inning defensive replacement -- this time likely for Hairston, who has shown that he lacks the instincts of a natural outfielder (not his fault of course -- he's a second basemen being asked to play center field). It probably means that when the Cubs face lefty starters, Murton and Hairston will start and be replaced by Holly and Gerut in the late innings. I highly doubt this deal is tied to a Dunn deal -- I'd like to be wrong though! :D 25 year old? Gerut turns 28 in September.
  14. Did you include HBP in your OBP calculations? Hairston's been hit a bunch this year, I think around 10 times.
  15. No, its bits and peices of information that have been peiced together in a logical manner to come to a conclusion. This, in science, is called a hypothesis. In the tearms we speak in now, it is speculation. Now, no doubt it has holes. but when you put it all together, it does make sense. It makes no sense at all. Why would Cinci actively seek out and desire a mediocre outfielder as part of this trade? Why would the Cubs trade for Jody Gerut? Why would anyone sign Milton or Guzman to 4 year contracts?
  16. Your right. Your slam was directed at a large group. Those who do not agree with you. Saying that something is the only MATURE and RESPONSIBLE way to do something, implys that what other people do is immature and irresponsible. Hense, a slam. Sorry Roast, I don't see it. He was replying to me too. I know that can be kind of a fine line, but given his pasts posts about evaluating the trade, I don't see an attack.
  17. KRod and Miguel Cabrera say hello. Dubois wouldn't even be able to SNIFF their jock straps. For the most part, WS teams have veterans. I can pick a few rookie studs out of my butt, but Doobie is not one of them. So you have a quote in your signature about dusty sitting the youth, then an Eye rolling emoticon. Yet you say here that WS winners are veteran.... Uh...How does this make sense. I rolled my eyes at his philosophy. I'm not advocating that ALL young players play, but at some point you have to play them. If the organization feels that Dubois is not the type of player they want to build upon that's fine by me, I agree. I'd rather have higher OBP guys. Like Matt Murton. Dubois has better OBP numbers at higher levels than Murton, in addition to better power. And plays defense like a blind person. He's better suited in the AL as a DH. I really believe that. Regardless: I am not judging this deal, until I see more. It's the only mature and responsible way to judge a trade For instance if Jody, healthy, becomes our everyday LF next year, and hits .280/.350/.450/.800 with 25 HR and 80 RBI, plays solid defense this could be a very even trade. He's had those numbers before, let's just see what happens before calling hendry an idiot (not saying you're doing that Cpatt20). Like I said before, I don't understand how people can judge a deal, before either guy has even landed in the other city. It's ok to discuss it, but saying it's bad it's good, Gerut is better than/worse than Dubois, is incredibly short-sighted. That's all I'm saying. It could turn out to be the worst deal ever. or the BEST deal ever. No one knows. That's fine. I'm just pointing out that you say you prefer Murton to Dubois because of OBP, when in fact Dubois has been as good if not better at getting on base. If his defense is that big a deal to you that you think more of Murton because of it, fine. I'm just trying to figure out where you stand.

  19. His production at every level of the minor leagues, including a 1000+ OPS at AAA? His inability to Run, Field, Throw, Hit for Average, Take a BB, Not Strikeout....... It's like he's the second coming of Hank Aaron or something if you read these boards. Okay, his less than 150 AB's in sporadic PT at the Major League level were enough for you. Fair enough. I'll try and stay with Gerut in this thread.
