  1. This complete inability to stay healthy is a huge issue, no matter how you slice his abilit. Realistically, how the heck can you count on a guy who either: throws a lot of pitches and thus is removed earlier than he should or you can't count on to give you a strong outing every five days because he can't freaking stay healthy? The ability is there, but someone has gotta get to him how to pitch with his stuff and to prevent this type of garbage from happening. He really helps the team when he goes 3 innings (and sucks while doing so) and then has to leave. This exactly right. The thing I have issue with is people going nuts and saying that Wood hasn't been good(or "inconsistent") when he's healthy. It's just not true.
  2. Washington was going to slide anyway. If they lose Hernandez for the year, they're pretty much done for.
  3. 1. Duh 2. Very pronounced Home/Road splits. I'm really wary of acquiring him. 3. Looks like a good LOOGY, but Ohman has been doing the job as well as Grabow. 1. Still duh. Wouldn't trade Hill for him straight up? Ugh. 2. Love the speed, don't like the lack of power. If we get a TB OF, I'd like Gomes. A lot. 3. Injury troubles this year, probably would cost more than his value to acquire. Regressed some this year. 1. Phew indeed 2. Wouldn't have minded him, but not devastated he's gone 3. Also worried, but Miles said that there wasn't anything going on involving Pierre.
  4. Yes. Very much so. When's Kerry pitching again?? Oh that's right, nobody knows. When will Kerry complain of "shoulder tightness" and have to be taken out of a game for god knows how long, again? Not sure but 1 thing is for sure, it'll happen again. When will the Cubs be able to depend on him again?? Never. How much does Kerry Wood make?? How much does Harang Make?? How many Innings has Harang pitched compared to Wood? Atleast Harang takes the ball every 5th day and that is alot more than I can say for Kerry Wood. I'm tired of Kerry Wood and everyone who thinks he's so good cuz he struck out 20 hitters on a different arm. He's never going to be healthy and for his salary, that is a joke. Yes, everyone thinks he's good just because of the 20 K game. It has nothing to do with him being one of the better starters in the league every year for the last 4 years. I understand there are valid concerns with Wood's health, and it's certainly worth debating whether the amount of innings he pitches makes him worth his contract. However, we don't even know how much(IF ANY) time he's going to miss. If we find out that Wood is done for the year tomorrow, then rant away. But when healthy Wood has consistently proven to be one of the better pitchers in the league, which is a point that many people don't realize or refuse to acknowledge when it comes to their criticisms of Wood.
  5. Frank isn't any better than Dusty in that regard, maybe worse.
  6. I've always wondered why different people have different amounts of pages...it only says 28 for me. Premium members get all the crap posts filtered out. That's not true, they just get more posts per page. There is no difference in content as far as the message board goes, just more bells and whistles, like smileys, BBcode, etc.
  7. I've always wondered why different people have different amounts of pages...it only says 28 for me. Premium pages have 20 posts, regular have 15.
  8. The MLB fantasy game where you pick a different player that you think will hit a HR every night. If you break the ML record of 8 in a row, then you win 10K. Someone had 8 in a row with Lee going tonight, and two other people were at 8 with Teixeira tonight.
  9. I don't think he was a Reds fan(although it's certainly possible I missed it), and it was last night. I would think that Mitre would get the rotation nod before Hill, but nothing would surpirse me at this point.
  10. Yes, more Wood bashing. Be mad at him for getting hurt, fine. When he's been healthy, he's been a very good starting pitcher. That's all I'm going to say about that. This game is depressing me, I'm out.
  11. Or hate Dunn so much. Wait, I think I know why they wouldn't like Dunn, and it depresses me.
  12. Someone just came about 5-10 feet from ten thousand dollars.
  13. Thanks Bruce! Very discouraging to hear that they apparently grossly overvalue Hill, or grossly undervalue Dunn.
  14. What was the deal with Ramirez getting another chance? That he blows by swinging at ball 4.
  15. It is only 6 games. But to be fair, his full line is .261/.409/.736/1.145
  16. That's a rather superficial example. Might that quite obviously be because the Redsox lineup was much much better than the Marlins? As a team they outscored the Marlins by 24% (949 to 718) Of course their players are going to have more Runs. How can Pierre effect the rate at which people drive him in? Are you implying it's his fault that he doesn't have Ortiz and Manny hitting behind him? Corey Patterson had a better rate of Runs Created last year than Pierre. His lack of power really hurts him.
  17. That might be a slight overstatement. OBP is much more valuable, but a hit is always better than a walk. I'd rather that people just stopped using BA as a key stat. Agreed. If he can get on base, thats all that matters. Yea, a hit is better than a walk sometiimes, but getting on base is better than not getting on base at all. I'd still rather have a guy bat .320 with a .360 obp than a guy bat .230 with a .400 obp. Some of you overvalue the walk a little too much. I'll take a single over a walk with a man on second and two outs every time. I can't think of a senario where a walk is better than a hit. Even with no one on base, a hit has a chance to be mishandled into an extrabase error. As BK pointed out in a previous thread, a player can get thrown out advancing a hit. And the .230/.400 guy will score more runs for your team than the .320/.360 guy.
  18. Isn't a power hitters job to be patient also? If Dunn has two strikes on him, and doesn't get his pitch, he won't swing. This lineup is still in serious need of OBP, and Huff and Pierre can't hold Dunn's jock. Wasn't there a post in another Dunn thread that he's something like 9 for 18 in situations that would call for a sac fly? I think it was along the lines of Dunn has 9 HR in a situation where he could have had a sac fly.
  19. How many of them are 25 or younger with a .900 career OPS? There has got to be dozens, if not hundreds. :| It just doesn't do it for me.
  20. With the Reds getting rid of Machado and Romano, it does free up some 40 man roster space if I'm looking at it right... EDIT: The guys at RedsZone think that a Pena trade is imminent.
  21. Welcome to the Forum! Check out the "Do We Want Dunn" thread a couple threads down. It's basically the exact same debate you bring up.
  22. Than why hasn't Walker been a leadoff hitter for his career? And why has Pierre been a leadoff hitter for his career? Is this a joke? Sorry, but if this is sarcasm, I missed it. Because of an over-emphasis on speed. And my question was serious. I'm guessing bunting, stealing bases, moving runners over, hitting sac flies, is that right? Am I missing anything?
  23. Do you like Van Halen? aerosmith hahaha CPatterson were you being sarcastic, or did you forget that aerosmith sings sweet emotion I've never heard many of aerosmith's songs, this is why I asked.
