  1. I understand that the starting pitching pulls us up some. But hey man---are you 100% sure we're going to keep this rotation intact for the entire 2nd half? And if so, what makes you think that? It's been one injury after another with these guys. Maybe they just don't have what it takes to be consistent major-league starters. I'm glad they're all pitching at the same time again. But let's be realistic. The history shows one or more will go down again. Wow Soul. You are a negative nancy. I hope everyone around here isn't that way! No, many try to keep a positive outlook. However, all of us are required to refrain from statements that attack the person instead of the argument. I know it was in good fun, just giving you a heads up. Check out the Member Guidelines or contact a Moderator or Admin if you have any problems. Doh, I forgot the most important part, Welcome to the Forum!
  2. Jerome Williams, Corey Patterson, and Renyel Pinto? Welcome to Chicago Adam. (Although I'd try real hard to sub Mitre for Williams)
  3. Well not necessarily. Dubois, Mitre and Dope would technically be 2 major leaguers and a prospect. I would do that in a heartbeat. The term "2 major leaguers and a prospect" is pretty vague. He also said "as many as" 2 major leaguers and a prospect. As long as the major leaguers aren't Prior/Ramirez/Barrett caliber players, then it's worth it.
  4. Actually, in that AB Palmeiro walked. It was earlier they showed his prior AB where he grounded out. Did anyone else think it was just a little too convenient that the first Rangers batter they cut to, Soriano, got a hit? And at the very next moment, Palmeiro happened to be up? It was almost like ESPN knew in advance, as if, even though they called it "Live Bonus Coverage" there may have been a tape delay of a up to a minute or two for one of those segments? When it was brought up on NSBB last night, I'm pretty sure some were watching the A's on Extra Innings. I was watching BBTN, and seemingly found out about the hit at least at the same time as the others. However, I have no idea if there was a delay on Palmeiro's AB.
  5. When he popped out to first base in his last at bat, he ran so hard he was halfway to second when the ball was caught. I don't think you have to worry about that sort of thing with Murton.
  6. Of course, I'll be the first to say this will never happen, but it is an intriguing idea. Cuban wants his teams to win and he isn't afraid to spend money or shake things up. On the other hand, for those that value tradition, Cuban may not be your guy. He's innovative and is willing to try about anything. See Transactions. FWIW, Cuban was asked about the rumors and said "I won't deny it."
  7. awesome YOU CAN SEE HIS HANDS SHAKING WE DONT NEED ANY UNPROVEN GUYS
  8. Exactly. There wasn't anything wrong with his swing, the kid just needs at-bats.
  9. Why Carlos Lee? He's got a bunch of RBI this year, but his numbers on the whole don't suggest paying through the roof to get him(.268/.340/.528).
  10. Ongoing joke. Once Roast started the Game Threads saying that the team is awful, they started winning. Not wanting to mess with a good thing, he continued to do so, and others joined in. haha. Superstitious, eh? I was wondering the same thing. I'm used to treating them like the losers they are, but it was pretty weird not seeing anyone stick up for them.. I'll be sure to keep that tradition going. Superstition is what got the game thread starter thing going. Game threads and their starter are a quirky lot.
  11. The Cubs could be major players in the Free Agent and Trade market this offseason, add several players, and still technically cut payroll. In terms of the OF in the FA market you have to get either Damon, Matsui, or Giles to make it even worth it. Damon will probably get to many years, Matsui will probably be a Yankee still, and Giles is a nice question mark. Hopefully the Phillies will realize they are better off without Abreu. My point is that even if the Trib decides to cut payroll, it won't restrict the construction of our roster as much as some might think.
  12. You know Harden has been with Oakland all along, they got Haren from STL, right?
  13. He's the first to get 3000 hits and 500 HR when he gets it. No, three other guys have done it. You know I thought to myself, "I think that said he was the first one, I'm pretty sure I'm right". Gah :x
  14. He's the first to get 3000 hits and 500 HR when he gets it.
  15. Palmeiro walks. Most anti-climactic bonus coverage ever.
  16. Haha, first batter of bonus coverage BBTN shows and he gives it up. Palmeiro up now going for 3000.
  17. The Cubs could be major players in the Free Agent and Trade market this offseason, add several players, and still technically cut payroll.
  18. The Yanks have cut Quantrill, Karsay, and Stanton recently. Gordon's their 8th inning guy right now, I doubt they move him unless overwhelmed.
  19. One million. He makes 7.67 mil this year, 8.67 next year.
  20. I think this is what BurntOutCubbieFan was talking about: "Corey is such a hack! "Corey,Neifi & Sosa (3 easiest outs in baseball excluding C's,of course)" "Good to hear the Cub fans Booing Corey. He deserves every bit of it!" "Why on earth is Neifi swinging at a first pitch curve on the outside corner?" "He must have been behind Corey in the batting cages before the game." "Who wants to bet that, with the warm and windy day, the Cubs will be swinging at the first pitch all day long and Miller will throw a 90 pitch CG?" "I will guarantee Corey will be first pitch swinging!" "or 2nd pitch. Way to work the count Corey!" "uh what the heck Hollandsworth? What a dumb play that was." "Hey, Holla Was that a Corey or Neifi impersonation? "this situation corey has to be patient." "He doesn't listen to his coaches why do you think he would listen to you? " All of those quotes followed this series of quotes: "Bashing management or other Cubs players is something I felt Trolls do." "We're the worst running baserunning team the last two years in the history of baseball! How can a team NEVER make the right choice. You'd think they would get one right at some point." "Never? you may want to tone down the pessimism or just get off the bandwagon." "he problem is is that Hendry will probably lowball those guys too and we'll be stuck with Macias and Burnitz starting next year..." "Pessimism at it's best! [-X " "I'm off to work.I fear Ill come home to see a loss on the board like yesterday though.Have a nice day guys." "Can you tone it down with the pessimism? Pointing out postives & negatives is one thing, to just focus on the negative gets very annoying." "Since we're all complaining about this pathetic lineup, you know what that means. The Cubs will go out and score about 10 runs!" "shhh!! don't tell the pessimists that, they won't know what to do with themselves if they can't complain about something!" "Pessimists like Don & Cal Raisin are getting more noticeable everytime I read one of their posts in this forum." "Enough with the negativity!!!! If the Cubs suck so bad, how the hell are they even in the WC race? YOU ARE A COMPLETE MORON!!!!"
  21. Good for him, hopefully his success can continue and he can work his way out of bust-dom
  22. Ongoing joke. Once Roast started the Game Threads saying that the team is awful, they started winning. Not wanting to mess with a good thing, he continued to do so, and others joined in.
