  1. From rotoworld and PAY attention to the bolded part of the statement. Cubs acquired outfielder Matt Lawton from the Pirates for outfielder Jody Gerut. We'll guarantee taking on Lawton's salary through next year gave the Cubs more pause here than giving up Jody Gerut. This tells me, the Cubs have Lawtons' rights till NEXT yr. So the Cubs technically are not getting a rental. Rotoworld is wrong. Lawton is only under contract through this season.
  2. No, because Hairston and the prospects would get claimed.
  3. Kruk just called the Braves the biggest winner at the deadline because of their acquisition of Farnsworth.
  4. BP 2005 says that Lawton was 7 runs above average in LF last year, and dead even in RF. However, PECOTA predicted he would be 2 runs below average this year. Take it for what it's worth.
  5. Lawton has an excellent platoon split, very good day/night splits. Going by Runs Created, here's some people Lawton has been better than this year: Jose Guillen Andruw Jones Craig Biggio Brady Clark Geoff Jenkins Carlos Beltran Ryan Klesko
  6. 7.75 million this year, free agent after this year.
  7. Might want to wait before more than 5 people respond before gauging the board's consensus.
  8. Probably the 5th to post this, rotoworld saying that Olney reports Lawton could come to the Cubs for Gerut.
  9. Soriano is almost 30, and hasn't been any better than Walker.
  10. That begs the question, what position does he play? I suppose that depends on who was dealt to get him, but I could see Griffey going to CF and our LF situation staying as is.
  11. I think Hendry will get Kearns sooner or later. He may not do it today, but Kearns would probably get through waivers anyway and it may even be an offseason move. When Hendry likes a guy (e.g. - Barrett, Burnitz) he usually eventually finds a way to get him. There's no way Kearns makes it through waivers. His contract is nothing, under a mil.
  12. I would be upset if Murton was used in a deal that got us a temporary fix. I'm not as high on Murton as some, but he's still valuable enough to not just throw in for a rental.
  13. average enough to lead the minor leagues in strikeouts Hill is not a strikeout pitcher in Major league Baseball. In 16 and 2/3 major league innings, he's K'd 18 guys. Looks like the K's are carrying over. EDIT: For comparison, only 1 qualified starter in MLB(Peavy) has a better K/9 than that.
  14. Roberts has a better RC/G than Hairston, 5.6 to 4.9. Roberts has been HORRIBLE in July after having 2 very good months by his standards. In 55 July AB's, he's hitting .109/.254/.109. Ack. So don't trade for Roberts cause he's sucked in July? Didn't say that, just offering his July as an explanation why his numbers are similar to Hairston's, yet he's been more productive.
  15. Roberts has a better RC/G than Hairston, 5.6 to 4.9. Roberts has been HORRIBLE in July after having 2 very good months by his standards. In 55 July AB's, he's hitting .109/.254/.109. Ack.
  16. I guess that would be true if...um, it werent wrong. The Rangers offense is SIGNIFICANTLY better than ours. They are #3 in MLB in runs, only 9 out of first and we are #16 only 1 out of 18th. They are scoring nearly a run more a game than us. So if you are using runs and rbis to evaluate a ranger player, take it within the context of their lineup. The Rangers have better offensive players in all likelihood(I haven't taken a detailed look at it), but their overall numbers like Runs are skewed in their favor because 1) They play with the DH and 2) They play in a much more hitter friendly park than we do.
  17. Then why does everyone go nuts when Macias or Enrique Wilson get/got ABs? Because Gerut is good at hitting right handed pitching. Macias and Wilson are offensive black holes.
  18. I'd still like to hear something :) BTW, can anyone tell me if the BBTN at 12:30 ET is a repeat? Or is it an abbreviated trade deadline special? I know the big show they do is on later, but I work this afternoon . . . The DirecTV info doesn't say repeat, and it says live, but I can't tell you for sure.
  19. Fontenot continues to show why he belongs on the big league bench. Montanez with another good game and an XBH. He's hitting .309/.356/.491/.847 at AA.
  20. That's a much more detailed version of something I daydreamed about earlier. Of course I've probably tried everything in my power to make Manny a Cub and so far nothing has worked yet. I'm sorry if I let you guys down. Don't despair just yet. We still got 15 hours to go. Keep the faith! At least for another 14:30 hours anyway. The Nomar deal wasn't announced to the public until a few hours after the deadline, right? So technically we have a few extra hours. I thought it was within an hour after the deadline, but your point remains. 4:00 ET isn't a hard deadline for news to come out.
  21. could you or some other gracious poster out here do the same for me too? i might be able to listen to some of the game on and off, but chances are i probably won't know the latest updates on deals and stuff. I have AIM on my phone so i would greatly appreciate all of the help :D Sure, just IM me with your sn and I'll try and help you out.
  22. Score! You guys hear that, that means my opinion means more than you!
  23. High School or elsewhere? If its high school, it seems to largely depend on what state you live in. Were you in one on those sports-crazy places or somewhere like South Dakota? I played in Ohio, where HS sports are a pretty big deal. However, I played soccer, which doesn't have as strong a following as other sports, and Baseball, which doesn't have the same passion that football or basketball does.
