  1. Looks like Hendry will try to pull his annual lightning in a bottle act. http://www.suntimes.com/output/cubs/cst-spt-kiley06.html Hey, it's one of the 4 non-catchers in the National League worse than Macias this year!
  2. So all i'm missing but not being Premium is some different Emoticons? There's more features than just emoticons as far as board features go. There's some more bbcode options, the ignore feature, and some others that I'm surely missing
  3. We only needed to create one spot, and DFAing Remlinger did that.
  4. That logo is beyond awesome. I don't see the parallel here. Vols, Minutemen, and Rebels refer to groups of people whose function WAS to fight. So to depict them as warlike, militant, or prepared for battle makes sense. Seminoles, Utes, Illini, etc. were much more than fighters. They were rich cultures. So when we automatically slap a tomahawk or spear along with those tribal names, it is a misrepresentation of those cultures. You could make the argument that sports teams only represent the competitive, or fighting, side of the culture or tribe.
  5. This is simplistic, but here's a comparison of Jones and Edmonds to HOFers at their position using OPS+. 3rd Basemen Player Career OPS+ Mike Schmidt 147 Eddie Mathews 143 Chipper Jones 141 Frank Baker 135 George Brett 135 Wade Boggs 130 Jimmy Collins 113 George Kell 111 Freddy Lindstrom 110 Pie Traynor 107 Brooks Robinson 104 Ray Dandridge ? Negro Lgs Judy Johnson ? Negro Lgs Center Fielders Player Career OPS+ Mickey Mantle 172 Ty Cobb 167 Tris Speaker 158 Willie Mays 156 Joe DiMaggio 155 Hack Wilson 144 Billy Hamilton 141 Duke Snider 140 Jim Edmonds 138 Larry Doby 136 Earl Averill 133 Earle Combs 126 Edd Roush 126 Kirby Puckett 124 Hugh Duffy 122 Richie Ashburn 111 Max Carey 107 Lloyd Waner 99 Oscar Charleston ? Negro Lgs Turkey Stearnes ? Negro Lgs Cool Papa Bell ? Negro Lgs From this I'd say both have a case for the Hall, and Chipper's is much stronger. Still, I'm a little hesitant with Edmonds because over his career he's never really been the best at his position.
  6. Wagner should be our #1 priority IMO. I'd throw 2/25 at him and laugh all the way to the bank. A pen of Wagner, Williamson, and Dempster would set up a nasty 7-8-9, much like Houston's a few years ago. Then anchor those guys with pitchers like Van Buren, Wellemeyer and Ohman or Novoa and we have a semi-reliable bullpen for once. Hopefully. Unless something goes wrong, which it most certainly will. I'd throw together a package of prospects centered around Wellemeyer or Hill and send them to Cinci ASAP. Dunn's price will be steeper if he's traded mid-season, particularly since it's a contract year and he's likely to go crazy with the bat. I could see Hendry making a move for a guy like Bartolo Colon. This is a pathetic free agent class all around. I wouldn't mind Bartolo for one year, considering this team's dire need for one or two more starters, and the fact that he's a FA after 06 (I believe). Wagner's age concerns me, since as a guy with his build ages, he's likely to lose a little off his stuff, IMO. Colon is a free agent after 2007, he makes 10 mil this year, 14 mil next year, and 16 mil in 2007.
  7. You were on the fence with Chipper yet you're against Edmonds? Chipper's OPS career is .938 and Edmonds is .928. Keep in mind that Chipper has been much more injury prone this season and the numbers aren't all that impressive. Moving to third does help Chipper, but what about playing CF for Edmonds? Centerfield is traditionally a more defensive position and 3B is typically viewed as a power spot, yet Edmonds has bucked that trend. If Edmonds stays healthy and puts up a 900+ OPS for another season or two, it'd be real tough to keep him out, especially if most who have responded thus far are in favor of Jones getting in. Position makes a huge difference to me. Granted, I haven't taken a close look at either's career, but I think Jones ranks higher up on the list of 3B than Edmonds is on the CF.
  8. Montanez continues to hit at AA, 2 for 3 with a walk. Anyone know how good he'd be defensively in CF? EDIT: His AA line us up to .324/.367/.500/.867 in 79 AA Plate Appearances.
  9. Stealing from Ray Ratto, but for those who agree with the decision, what do you think about PETA campaigning against animal names? What about church groups or anti-church groups that want Demons, Devils, Friars, Saints, or Crusaders taken down?
  10. I guess I definately saw a rare sight last night, both of them (bolded) hit home runs in the same game. :P Fuld's IsoP is now at .133, so unless he is considered unable to steal a base, he qualifies for the most well rounded player.
  11. Plus, there's nothing structurally wrong with him, he just has a deep bone bruise that takes time to heal. He takes more time for it to heal now, but then it shouldn't be anything that bothers him again.
  12. sadly, no... From the injury update thread: Off-Season Surgery Likely for Wood
  13. Didn't the MRI's show he has a partially frayed labrum?
  14. i wish it weren't, but i definitely think it is. Hendry has his faults, but when I think about the thought of him getting fired, I think about Hughes replacing him. That frightens me beyond all comprehension.
  15. The story about my great grandmother was as fictional as that dialogue you just wrote...here in Indiana there are plenty of mascots that are based off of white men such as the Andrean 59ers, Mishawaka Cavemen, Jimtown Jimmies, Floyd Central Highlanders, Plymouth Pilgrims....etc and not once has any discussion been had about replacing those. All have ridiculous mascots who dance around at games as well. Surely there are some relatives of those folks (well save for cavemen) who would be offended you say? I say NO because its A DANG SPORTS MASCOT Yeah, because the Pilgrims and the Redmen are the same thing. Give me a break. I think it's been established that no one approves of demeaning names like Redmen and Redskins. Pilgrims and Illini are basically the same thing.
  16. I did an ESPN draft tonight for practice for the other leagues I care about. 10 team league, standard ESPN scoring. QB Collins RB J. Lewis WR Moss WR C. Johnson RB/WR Evans/Jimmy Smith TE Gates K Vinatieri DEF Buffalo WR Evans/Smith RB D. Foster RB M. Bennett WR Mike Williams K Janikowski DEF Indy QB Palmer TE Johnson How'd I make out? I'm not real happy, but I could've done worse.
  17. maybe they just don't want the name of their tribe to be the name of a sports team, i don't see what is so hard to understand about it. who are we to tell them they shouldn't be offended? Who is the NCAA to say that they are offended? My main problem with this is it only being in effect during playoffs. That's just dumb.
  18. Yeah, Prior gave up 6 last time too, he's not worth anything.
  19. This has not been the best of starts for Burnitz.
  20. Can't give away outs like that, Hill even got to him early in the count.
  21. Unfortunately sitting on the bench hinders his development, as he still has some things to work on. If he's not going to get regular playing time, then he should be in AAA. He's only 22.
  22. The batting practice cap is the greatest hat in the history of hats. I may have to bust it out too.
  23. I'd be willing to bet he didn't go to NY with the team (just a guess). They probably let he and Mitre know the team's intentions yesterday following the game. I dont see any team paying travel expenses for a player soon to be designated for assignment. I think he was referring to the Yankees picking him up.
  24. Lawton hasn't played CF in a long time. I think we'd be better off with Burnitz in CF. I'm interested to see tonight's lineup.
