I'd say the 6 game gap between us and Cincy, plus the talent level on the two teams makes us better than them. So you're admitting they aren't as good as Milwaukee? I'm not sure. They lost against them and won fewer games total, but I'm not sure if things would stay the same if they played the season over again(in other words, things out of either team's control may have played a part). I am pretty sure that we'd still fare better than the Reds if we did it all over again.

Dempster really will get 5 million next year, it's just that 1 mil of that is the signing bonus. I can't imagine them prorating it considering the structure is set up to be 5/5/5.5 if he gets it up front.

At 28 yrs old, I am. It's oene thing to offer a 36/37 yr old, like Remmy, a 3 yr deal, it's another to offer a 28 yr old, a 3 yr deal. I am pretty sure (there is no guarantee in baseball, mind you) the Cubs won't regret giving Demp the deal. Regardless of age or injury history, relievers are just too unpredictable the majority of the time to justify a long term contract, especially for the amount of money that Dempster is getting. Dempster is far from lights out, he's probably not even in the top 30 of relievers in WHIP. Those walks are going to catch up to him, possibly in Alfonseca fashion.

Hahahaha, Nebraska's QB turns the wrong way on a handoff(or the RB went the wrong way) and fumbles the ball away on the scramble. This is in a tie game where Nebraska was inside the red zone with 1:30 left in the game.

Poor Tyrone Prothro. Plays a heck of a game, mishandles a TD pass and now is getting taken off in a stretcher, I think it's his ankle/leg.

He could be used as a trading chip or we could keep him as the fifth starter. He's lowered his ERA to 4.18 so far with today's effort and that's not bad for a fifth starter. 3.71 ERA and 1.31 WHIP with the Cubs. EDIT: His VORP projected over a full season is better than the likes of Weaver, Lieber, Suppan, and David Wells.

Wood's going to need to make every start and average 10 innings a start in order to vest it. If either the Cubs or Wood decline the option, he becomes a FA. -
Seriously, I already left this debacle, I want to see UM-MSU! Since you're dying to know, my thoughts on the Texas slaughter. Mizzou's defense is awful awful awful, and Smith threw away their opportunity with 3 turnovers early. I also lost a lot of respect for Texas. Between their fans booing the refs mercilessly at the half, assistant coaches inciting the fans, and going for a TD on 4th down up 24 points in the 4th quarter, I'm hoping that OU makes it 6 straight.

See Hoops' post, they may not be able to afford it. Can anyone see a Todd Walker + good pitching prospect for Brad Radke deal going down? I hope not. Radke's only marginally better than Maddux.
