  1. Oh wow did someone get laid out on that INT return.
  2. 8 point game with 7 and a half minutes left.
  3. right click>View Image>Back Button Repeat for each image.
  4. Well, there are plenty of threads where people are laying out entire scenarios already. This is a different approach and should be looked at as if you're looking at the best possible option at each position. Then you can go back and see how to pull it all together and balance everything out. But the best possible option can change depending on what happens at the other positions. If the Cubs take on all of Manny's contract, and spend big on Giles and Burnett, then Cedeno is the best option at SS because of his production at 300k. If Murton/Corey/Burnitz is the OF, then we need to try and bring back Nomar. If we're going to go back and change what we think the best options are afterwards to make them fit together, why not do it from the start?
  5. As much as I appreciate Roast's effort in streamlining this thread, I think there's a problem with the approach that we're going about this thread. Determing what we do about different positions is impossible in a vacuum. Take LF for instance. I have zero problem with Murton playing LF all next year if he's in an OF with Bradley and Giles, while Nomar and Walker are in the middle infield(Cedeno backing them up). However, if Burnitz's option is picked up and Corey or Hairston is in CF, I'm not as comfortable. What we do at each position depends on each other, for monetary reasons as well as performance(like the situation above).
  6. Vance made the whole thing up because he was bored. Seriously though, he quoted the Lee Elia thing about the Wrigley fans, and I think made some comment about no one being there to celebrate the Sox victory because "they actually have jobs" or something like that.
  7. There used to be a flyer in my hall for this guy who seemed to be collecting(and I assume selling) Texas game tickets, but I can't seem to find it to get the email address now. Sorry Mizzou.
  8. The little I've seen of Taveras has been very good in CF. I'll even go on record and say......um......um....Neifi Perez has been the best defensive SS in the NL (apologies to Vizquel, but Neifi has slightly more range at this point). Omar and Jack Wilson are the only ones in the ballpark.
  9. Raw, Why can't he just say something demonstrative like: "I haven't got my final number, but our payroll should be sufficient enough to field a team that will be battling to be the best in the NL." Isn't "battling to be the best in the NL" a synonym for "very competitive"?
  10. Bradley's offense isn't that great for a corner OF, which is what he would likely be in Florida. I can't believe I didn't think of Kent, I guess that's what happens when you throw something like that together to quickly. Hoops, what would you target in return for Odalis(assuming the Cubs don't hang on to him)?
  11. Florida sends Castillo and Lowell Florida gets Edwin Jackson, Rich Hill LA sends Bradley and Jackson LA gets Lowell and Walker, Cubs prospect Cubs send Walker, Hill, prospect Cubs get Bradley and Castillo It's not ideal, but the basic idea is what I'm getting at.
  12. Dream on--Nathan is one of the three best closers in the AL, you don't trade that for an injury-prone 2B with no defense who's already had a stint in Minny. However, something like Walker for Jesse Crain, Juan Rincon or JC Romero, that could happen, and we do need some 7th-8th inning help. I'd do Walker for any one of those three guys no problem. Walker: 30.1 VORP Nathan: 21.7 Crain: 26.2 Rincon: 22.7 Romero: 9.7
  13. Exactly how foolish would it be? The guy has excelled at every level he has played at and his teams are consistently winners. I would much rather the Cubs consider bringing up Pie than getting another stop gap like Burnitz or Hollandsworth, or worse yet letting Patterson come back. His plate discipline in AA is worse than Patterson's was in AA. Please explain with numbers :D I was looking up Pie's stat line this year and it pretty impressive .349 OBP, .554 Slg, .304 Avg and he only struck out at a rate of around 1 time every five ABs. His Steal ratio looks really bad, but there is nothing in those numbers that says he cannot be successful in the future. BTW I think it is unfair to compare everyone to Corey Patterson, Patterson's problems appear to be mostly mental. From everything I've read about Pie they have two entirely different outlooks on the game. Pattersons IsoD in AA was .073. Pie: .045 If it wasn't for his high BA, his OBP would be pretty low. The numbers are decent, but I don't see anything there that screams major league ready. He needs a season in AAA. Is there a website to look at previous minor league season stats? I would be interested to see what Patterson's stats were, beside IsoD. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/P/corey-patterson.shtml
  14. Exactly how foolish would it be? The guy has excelled at every level he has played at and his teams are consistently winners. I would much rather the Cubs consider bringing up Pie than getting another stop gap like Burnitz or Hollandsworth, or worse yet letting Patterson come back. Pie will get eaten alive at the ML level because of his plate discipline. It's worse than Corey's at that age. He's coming off an injury and hasn't played a full year at AA. Having him skip AAA entirely and expecting a contribution from him would be pretty foolish, and an impediment to his growth as a player.
  15. Watching the same thing and thought...mmm didn't stoney do that for the year he had off? Maybe Baker would Corey to Stoney. I am sure he'd give the Cubs a discount. Because Baker and Stone are such good pals?
  16. I think it's almost a required mindset to be a sweeper.
  17. See Hoops' post, they may not be able to afford it.
  18. Pie starting in CF, Nomar in LF, Morris or Burnett for the rotation, thank goodness it was Sullivan.
  19. IIRC, it's really taken a turn for the worse in the last month or two.
  20. Grudz Batting Runs Above Average: -3 Fielding Runs Above Average: 4 Net Runs Above Average: 1 Walker Batting Runs Above Average: 10 Fielding Runs Above Average: -7 Net Runs Above Average: 3
  21. What advanced defensive stats are you referring to?
  22. Kind of pertinent. When I was a freshman, one of our seniors who went on to play college soccer had a unique way of heading the ball. He would always know where the ref was and bring both hands up, clenched in a fist. While shielding the ref, he would punch the ball with the hand on the far side of his body, while making it look like he headed it. He always got away with it. Don't ask me how. you played with maradona? I once saw Van Nisteelroy(sp?) try that, didn't work and got a yellow for it I think.
  23. I played against a kid in middle school who did a flip throw in, he was real good at it. One kid on our HS team my age could just rear back and throw the ball half way across the field. He wasn't a real big guy, but he played Tennis which probably helped. Every throw in from about 30 yards in there was a set play for. Once he threw a ball into the goal far post from about 35 yards away, on the fly. Here he is about to unleash one: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y44/cubsfan_05/P1010046.jpg
  24. I really need to go home and scan that before and after of me taking some kid out. Memories, memories.
  25. Everyone knows that keepers can get away with just about anything. Yep. I love the raised knee in traffic... very effective at creating space. My personal fave is the leg whip to turn around so you can "see where the shot went".
