  1. I'll take it seriously. I think that, with a winter away from baseball to reset his mind, Corey *could* be considered an option to bat 8th and play a good defensive CF given a good ST, but be a prime candidate to be replaced via a trade deadline move. I think that the days of Corey being considered a top player, or even a guy who just needs time and patience to become a star, are over. I think the best he could hope to become is Mike Cameron. I think the Cubs probably trade him for cents on the dollar this winter at the GM meetings, though. He has little to no chance of success here in Chicago. I agree.
  2. NC Women's soccer. I thought we were talking about sports here. ;) (That was meant to be a soccer joke, btw, not a women's sports joke.) Grrrrr. [slidetackles BK] Quick, BK, pretend you're hurt so he gets a yellow card. Everyone knows that keepers can get away with just about anything.
  3. .370 OBP and .860 OPS looks pretty good from a backup.
  4. I'm glad labelling and grouping and name-calling isn't permitted. I think you overestimate the average fan. The average fan doesn't take the time to register at an independent website like this one to talk about the Cubs all the time. They're more the type that takes until June to realize that Grudzielanek isn't playing 2nd anymore, and are currently wondering why Wood hasn't started in seemingly forever. Since the regulations of this community that you're referring to are for fellow posters(please correct me if I'm wrong mods/admins), I really doubt that IMB! was trying to group anyone here into that category. Also, I'm pretty sure the mods/admins prefer you contact them in private if you have issue with any problems you have of this nature. Sorry, I didn't know that this board was for only above-average fans. Your point about the posters vs. non-posters is well taken. If a private message is the way to do it fine. Again, maybe I(IMB! too?) have a different view of the "average fan". If you're taking the time to register at a website and regularly post about the team, that's much more than the majority of fans do, and you probably care about/are more knowledgable about the game as well.
  5. You really think that Gallagher is going to go through High A, AA, AAA, and reach the majors in less than 2 years? That sounds a bit optimistic to me. He'll only be 20 next year, I think 2008 is a much more reasonable timetable.

  7. Neifi, Macias, Rusch & Co. owed it to the league though, to try their darndest, and I think they did. Yes they did. Injuries hit again and the bench did the best they could. I just get torked up when people start talking about the Cards laying down at the end of the year. I agree that this is a pretty ridiculous thread. Especially considering that the Cubs have no part in it. Let STL do what they want, if they want to lose so they get SD in the first round, let them.
  8. That would be fun reading. Bowden is very bad at his job.
  9. As has been said enough times on this board that I'm sure you've seen it: he got the cubs offense so hot that they scored fewer runs with him around than without. But, was that really Lofton's fault? He provided a .327 AVG, .387 OBP from the lead off spot with the Cubs. He scored 39 runs in 56 games, with 20 XBH's, 12 stolen bases and 20 RBI's, all from the lead off spot. If the Cubs scored less runs with Kenny, the blame falls on the other players in the line up, not Kenny. Kenny's good OBP this year is exactly what this team needed this year. I'm not saying it has to be Kenny. Any good OBP will do. Sosa's OPS dropped 150 points in the 2nd half of the 2003 season. Alou's OPS dropped more than 50 points in the 2nd half of 2003. Lofton, Grudz and Ramirez basically carried this team into the playoffs in 2003, outside of the starting rotation. Without Lofton, I'm not so sure the Cubs are in the 2003 playoffs. I will agree that he didn't get the "line up" going. He just provided the spark that was missing from Sosa and Alou. Wait a second. You're applying logical analysis and using stats that make your point stronger. Thats no fair! Derwood said that he "really got that lineup going". To me that implies the team having more success than previously.
  10. Macias's AVG+OBP+SLG Close and late is still lower than Lee's AVG in that situation. Hilariously depressing.
  11. On the corners, but Cruz played CF for more than 20 innings this year for the first time since 2001, without much success. GMJ's offense in CF looks much better than Cruz's on the corners.
  12. Combining two thoughts here. Brewers need another starter to go with Sheets, Davis, Capuano. They may shop Overbay with Fielder being ready. Mike Maddux is their pitching coach. Maddux plus cash for Overbay? Makes it real easy to explore a trade of Lee, or you can just move one to LF(both are excellent 1B, although imo Lee's better suited for the OF). you open up a hole in the rotation, but replacing Maddux's production isn't really that difficult. Anyone think Milwaukee would go for a deal like this or something similar?
  13. We have a winner folks, although I think for reasons 2 and 3 more than 1. What do I win? Will someone hypnotize me and give me a new favorite baseball team? Congratulations, you're a Royals fan now!
  14. Cruz is a FA, Michaels may be the odd man out with Lofton and Philly's CF prospect(forget his name, IL MVP). Michaels is arby eligible.
  15. .259, 10th in the NL. Their RISP OBP is .338, only better than Arizona.
  16. Is Cruz Jr. much different than GMJ? Cruz might be a little more reliable with the bat, but GMJ makes up for it with his ability to play CF.
  17. His minor league OBP(my own calculation so apologies if off) is around .355, and he was pretty old for all his minor league stops. His AVG and SLG have remained similar to his minor league numbers though, so if given full time I don't think he'd regress too far. On the other hand, Citizens Bank has benefitted him, but overall I don't think he'd drop far enough to make him any worse a target than someone like GMJ.
  18. Texas comes into Faurot Field Saturday. It should be madness. Hopefully the game will allow that madness to last more than a series or two.
  19. I really have no problem with Pie not setting foot in Wrigley until '07, except for maybe a September callup next year. If GMJ is signed to a 1 year deal, that's not a problem. Plus, Baker's contract expires after next year, so when Pie is ready we may(extreme emphasis on may) not have to worry about that.
  20. GMJ in '05 Home: .218/.289/.369/.658 Away: .299/.358/.506/.865 I was gonna point that out. To be fair, he did have much better home numbers than away numbers in '04, but his away line of .261/.339/.420/.759 that year is still pretty decent for a CF.
  21. GMJ in '05 Home: .218/.289/.369/.658 Away: .299/.358/.506/.865
  22. I'm a big fan of Cabrera, but how is he "better than Pujols at a younger age?" Cabrera's highest season OPS (this year) is a few points lower than Pujols' worst season (2002). Cabrera is 22 now, and Pujols was 22 in 2002. I'd call Pujols the better fielder, too. He was better at third than Cabrera, and he actually played short in a game in 2002. There's no question that Cabrera is a better value than Pujols. Pujols is the second-best 1B in baseball this year and makes $11 million. Cabrera is the second-best LF in baseball this year (behind Jason Bay) and makes $370,000. I'd be glad to have them both, of course. Park Factors. Cabrera on the road this year: 1.016 OPS
  23. Forgot about Lowe, but I thought Weaver, Perez, and Penny were done. Gagne and Izturis are arby eligible right? Both have extensions. Gagne gets 10 mil in '06, Izturis 3.1 million.
