It didn't? Based on what? The 3 weeks they played together? all three have been on the team all year. It hasn't worked. And yea the 3 weeks they played together, i believe they played sub .500 ball for the only stretch we have to go on. I dont understand how others dont see it... the defense is horrible and has been for a good portion of the season. The Cubs are 4th in the NL and 12th in MLB in Defensive Efficiency. Link -
Worst defensive team ever? Well if that is the goal then we can trade wilkerson and whoever the heck the red sox want and put Manny on the team. Now that is a bad defensive team.... Also, does Dunn make that much that after signing for Giles (10-11 mil) and trading for Wilkerson (4 Mil i think) that we are out of flexibility financially? I was hoping that would leave us some money left over for atleast one more big signing since the only real signing (and hence big expensive deal) would be Giles (unless i am wrong and Dunn makes over 4 mill). I don't think that team would be that bad defensively. Dunn is sub par for sure, but Giles and Wilkerson are right about average for RF and CF defensively. The infield is the same as we were banking on this season.

I'd explore a trade for Bradley before Cameron, although I wouldn't be displeased with either.

I think their TV guys are pretty good too, in what little I've heard of them. I also like the Tigers' TV guys, though again I don't tune in that often. The Indians' manager for the record is Eric Wedge. Several of my Indians fan friends are "less than enamored" with Wedge, fwiw.

How is that true? Blanco catches specific pitchers, Barrett catches just about everybody else. Mr. Personal Catcher himself, Maddux, has been comfortable using Barrett. Maddux and Barrett had problems last year and for that reason Bako wound up catching most of Maddux's starts. Prior and Barrett also had problems last year and Blanco has wound up catching Prior most of this year. cera may not be absolute but you can't just dismiss it out of hand either. And let's face it, Blanco is a better defensive catcher than Barrett is. I'd still rather have Barrett's bat in the line-up though. Blanco's the better defensive catcher, but that doesn't mean he gets pitcher's to pitch better than Barrett. CERA really doesn't have much purpose at all, there's no correlation from year to year, player to player, etc.

And always start on the road, and always have that stupid friggin "Monday-Wednesday-Thursday" series. I HATE THAT! :evil: I could be wrong, but I believe the reason the Cubs always start on the road is weather. The league likes to give the Northern teams an extra week for Spring to kick in. Cincy isn't that much warmer than Chicago though. It's pretty northernly(word?) in it's own right. -
I'm surprised it's that close. Here's last year's: Dunn- 32 total 30.3 hitting/1.5 fielding Wilkerson- 22 total 18.9 hitting/3.4 fielding

wilkerson strikes out alot but he also walks alot 106 bb/152 k's in 04. Sarcasm is fun. Sulley loves walks so much his first born's name is going to be B.B. That was lame. :P You're just mad that I posted it first.

Dunn every day of the week. Wilkerson is still solid, especially for a CF, but he's not near Dunn's production. This has been a down year for Wilkerson though, maybe we can nab him on the cheap.

I don't know who I'd build around per se, but how the offseason goes is pretty fluid from my POV. I think signing Giles or trading for someone of similar caliber is a must. Much like CubinNY, I'd quietly shop Lee to see what kind of return he would gather. See how much LA would give up in a multi-team deal to get Lee on their hands. Test Bowden's stupidity to see if he'd give up Johnson, Wilkerson, and something else. What you do for the OF, SS, and pen all depend on each other really.

I think Fontenot should be on the MLB bench next year. The guy's got an 800+ OPS as a second baseman, and a .158 IsoP, which isn't bad at all for an infielder. I really haven't heard anything either way defensively, other than that he plays 2B and 3B. Plus he takes a ton of walks and his OPS is more OBP driven than most. I think he's pretty valuable all in all, and will be very upset if he gets removed. -
Clemens has taken back a slight lead in VORP, and him and Carpenter both have a sizable lead in that category over Dontrelle.

Is Looper hurt, or did he lose velocity? He's had a rough month, but 6 bad innings doesn't change the fact that he's been at least decent for the rest of '05.

I would gladly trade Walker + Hill for Hunter + Crain; and then turn around and spin Hunter + cash + Brian Dopirak to Florida for Juan Pierre. Crain is an excellent reliever. So, let me get this straight. You'd trade Todd Walker, Rich Hill, Brian Dopirak and cash for Jesse Crain and Juan Pierre? The Cubs are getting ripped off big time there. Todd Walker is unneeded (Cedeno), Rich Hill is a one-trick pony, and Dopirak looks like a bust. In exchange, I get a leadoff man and a setup man for my bullpen. Yeah, I'd do those trades. Cubs aren't getting ripped off at all. A top 5 offensive 2B is always needed. Whether or not Hill or Dope look like they'll pan out doesn't mean to throw them into any deal. Pierre is awful, his OBP is like 12 points lower than Hunter's this year.

Guillen is the guy I wanted instead of Burnitz last offseason. :( He'd be a good pickup, but I hope he wouldn't be our "big splash". Getting Guillen in conjunction with Giles would be great.

Which ones? The TV guys are pretty blase, and Hamilton goes from decent to irritating depending on my mood. Of course, I can't keep the radio and TV guys straight anymore.
