  1. How does an LA host scoop/know about a deal between D.C. and Chicago? They might as well do this deal to make the team as unlikable as possible for me, cause then they'll win it all.
  2. This being MLB where every single thing that the players wear is for sale, i'm sure somewhere these will be for sale soon. Eastbay has some type of MLB shorts. I don't know if they're the exact design, but they serve the same purpose.
  3. Maybe Rafael and his career .221/.270/.259/.529 line are making a comeback.
  4. That's fine, but if that's what you think without anything to support it beyond conjecture, then you might want to avoid saying:
  5. In case you missed it the first time: Z is two years younger than Buehrle, and has pitched in 2 fewer seasons. In those seasons he has been better than Buehrle on the whole, never going below a 131 ERA+, while Buehrle has been below that mark in 3 of his 5 seasons.
  6. In their years where they didn't do any relief work: Zambrano- 136, 165, 131 ERA+; Average: 144 Buehrle- 140, 129, 108, 126, 143 ERA+; Average: 129
  7. Even before this quote, I was worried about Grissom in LF and Murton in the platoon with Jones. I've seen too many decisions that just defy human thought with Baker not to be at least slightly concerned.
  8. How many people are going to know Mark Prior in some random SoCal ER? 90%? Maybe more? He's pretty tough to miss, and that's his home territory. Exactly. Last offseason we heard all about how Hendry tore his ACL, I can't imagine how one of the most recognizable players on the team going to the hospital near his home wasn't picked up by somebody.
  9. Oh, and we don't know exactly what Murton, Cedeno, Wuertz, Wellemeyer, and Williams will make yet. Of course the difference between their numbers from last year will be negligible, so it won't really matter when talking about total payroll.
  10. Roughly, yeah.
  11. True. Adding in raises to Z, Hairston, and Pierre, plus the completely omitted Ohman adds an additional 6 million to the payroll, not including what I referenced above.
  12. I've really been slack with this offseason's moves, so someone else that has kept up better(JeffH comes immediately to mind) may be able to help more. I will say that several of those figures don't look right at first glance, specifically the aforementioned Neifi, Eyre, Howry, Rusch, Dempster, Barrett(I don't think anyone actually knows the breakdown of his deal), and ARam. From the incomplete info I have, those mistakes or different breakdowns would add at least 7+ million to the final total.
  13. So who's the number 2 when Pettitte comes crashing down to earth?
  14. Sure it is. To use an extreme example, if they raise the mound 5 inches next year, and only two players hit above .250, wouldn't it be a great year if you hit .255, even if you averaged .300 prior to that? Obviously there's no one thing to point to, nor is the change that drastic, but with steroid testing and other factors, offense was down this year. Comparatively speaking, Tejada was better in '05 than in '04.
  15. 2004: 126 OPS+ 2005: 133 OPS+ Offense was down last year.
  16. Yes, the best year of Tejada's career. And it's not like a series of fluke years kept him out. Pujols, Vlad, Ortiz, A-Rod, Delgado. Bay, Cabrera, Young and Teixeira continued their young success as well. Hafner looks like he's here to stay too.
  17. I really don't see how. Tejada's production, considering he is a SS, is pretty remarkable. You might disagree, but it's certainly not ridiculous to rank Tejada third. And I would take him over Lee any day of the week. It's pretty easy to find a decent bat at 1st. Even metrics that rate Tejada's strengths(durability, position scarcity) highly don't put him in the top 10 in baseball.
  18. They are the same age, so it's an interesting comparison: OPS+ 2000-2004 Lee: 122, 113, 131, 135, 114; Average 123 Tejada: 112, 112, 122, 117, 126; Average 117.8 Lee plays better defense, and has similar durability.
  19. I love how just in my time here, you've gone from Darth Vader war veterans to squirrels with lightsabers to Conan O'Brien to Bush and Bono to murderous cats to Viggo Mortensen with a guitar in your sigs and avs with no real rhyme or reason to the changes. :D It's Sean Bean! http://www.spartantailgate.com/forums/images/smilies/upset.gif
  20. I hope there's a lot of WGN games early in the season, then when I'm done with school I go home to EI and it doesn't matter.
  21. The US breaks the scoreless tie in the third round thingy! The exhiliration!
  22. Yeah, there's no way Garland should be ahead of Buehrle. Or Garcia for that matter. And you can make a case to put Wood in front of him too.
  23. See Mike Aller's sig for details. meh, it's hard to say. but i guarantee you that gordon's physically stronger than lebron. Pound for pound maybe, but LeBron needs to be pretty strong to finish some of the drives he does.* *I admit complete and utter bias. LeBron should be the MVP, and probably deserves part of North Dakota as tribute to him.
