  1. Maybe it slipped. It could just be a 4 seamer. Or a breaking pitch depending where his unseen fingers are on the ball.
  2. Isn't someone else here from Livonia, MI? EDIT: My hunch was right, it's tadowdaddy.
  3. wtg guys, I start the thread to see if I have a good team and you guys ruin it before I get any criticism or praise. All your teams suck, mine is awesome.
  4. How do you figure? I've already shown you that Mabry is the better offensive player.
  5. He gets on base more(last year was a minor exception), and he hits for more extra bases. Mabry hasn't had more than 250 at bats in a season since 1999. Neifi lowest in that span is 328 in 2003. If Mabry's so good why isn't he playing every day? Because he sucks. So, how good a player is, is determined by how much they play? Was Patterson any good last year because he got a bunch of at bats? Of course not. Your pal Farnsworth throws bunches of innings every year, more than most relief pitchers. You don't seem to think he's worthwhile. MLB is littered with terrible players getting more playing time than they deserve because of inept management. Playing time doesn't determine value, performance does.
  6. Oh, you were talking about their cockamamie system. Yeah, I guess Mabry would be worse going by that. EDIT: Remember that playing time was part of their criteria. Twice as many AB's for Neifi means twice the opportunity to suck and get points. Don't you think there's a reason Mabry only got 246 AB's last year while Neifi got 572? And don't say because Nomar got hurt because the Cubs could have traded for somebody else if they thought Neifi was so horrible. Going by their bogus criteria, Mabry should be "drafted" higher in theory. However, since Neifi will have much more opportunity to earn points because of extra playing time, he's worth more in their ridiculous league. Outside of their crazy system, Mabry is the better offensive player. How on earth is Mabry a better hitter? He gets on base more(last year was a minor exception), and he hits for more extra bases.

  9. Considering that this doesn't count defense, how did you figure that Neifi is better than Mabry/anyone?
  10. I think that scoring system tells you a lot about the misconceptions about the strikeout from the hitter's perspective.
  11. I hope Blasko bounces back well. What was his injury again? He could make a decent pen arm if he can't take the starter's workload.
  12. For those that saw the MSU-IU game, did Marquise Gray get hurt? He started but only played 4 minutes. Even Ager finally did well(very very well) in a road game and they couldn't win.
  13. If this means 19-20 less interviews in the bottom of the 7th that distract from the game, I like it.
  14. Just an opinion formed from the universal reactions of scouts who have watched Upton play. He's been under a microscope for years now and has impressed everyone who has reported upon seeing him play. Upton may not have yet played pro ball, but he's hardly imaginary. Young has holes in his game that minor league pitchers have been able to exploit. He's a very good prospect and I think he'll be fine in the long run. But I have a theory that players with that kind of strikeout rate in the minors adapt more slowly when they hit the bigs. No, Upton isn't imaginary. But it is unfair to Young that you point out what minor league pitchers have been able to exploit in his game when Upton has yet to have a chance to have any holes in his game be exploited (beyond high school pitchers...big whoop). It's almost like you are saying..."Upton won't get exploited as much as Young, trust me because the scouts say so." That assumption you are making certainly makes Upton's minor league numbers "imaginary", so to speak. I mean, I certainly don't disagree with your theory about strike out rates and how they may predict how quickly a player adjusts to the bigs, but you really have no way of knowing whether or not Upton is going to have high K rates through his stint in the minors either. In the same way, it's unfair assume that Upton will have significant problems. That's the point. We know what Young's problem is, and Upton may or may not have it.
  15. I know you can choose to enter your own results for a Yahoo draft, so you could work it that way.
  16. In other B12 news, Mizzou led by 15 midway thru the first half in Boulder before ultimately losing by 18. Please come and save us Karl Hobbs.
  17. US is going to lose the medal chase to Germany. Bummer. Doesn't look like Canada will have a chance to catch the US for second though.
  18. Hadn't thought of that, but considering the big spot(whatever hotel that is) is a block+ away from the stadium, and the new Busch is in almost the exact same spot, I don't think the newness of the stadium will have a huge impact on demand.
  19. How many teams in that league? Who was your first pick?
  20. 12 teams, R, HR, RBI, SB, TB, OBP, W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP, K/9 C V. Martínez 1B C. Tracy 2B R. Freel 3B D. Wright SS M. Young OF P. Burrell OF G. Jenkins OF J. Gomes Util C. Guillén BN R. Baldelli BN Lu. González(COL) SP R. Harden SP F. Hernández P M. Buehrle P J. Blanton P S. Linebrink RP D. Turnbow RP R. Dempster BN R. Betancourt Thoughts?
  21. I was the one who used the phrase "weak minded" pitchers. I explained why I used it and how a pitcher can avoid getting distracted. You're ability to be sarcastic was clouded by actually asking what I thought was a legit question rather than being cute. Save your attempts for trying to appear witty for someone else, some of us try to have intelligent posts and some like you try to ruin it for the rest of us w/ your weak-mindedness. I appreciate you explaining how a pitcher can avoid getting distracted. You should write a book or something. I wasn't aware that pitchers could vary their times to the plate and throw over to first base(?!?). Wow! You must have watched at least one baseball game before(I'm sure you've watched more than that...it was very informative and well thought out). You're like the Joe Morgan of posters( by "poster", I don't mean those things you put on the wall, but by people that contribute messages, or "posts", to message boards). I'll try to control my attempts at humor in the future. I'm really sorry( by "sorry", I mean that I apolgize, or apologise). I've been told by my mom that I'm really funny and a really great catch(by "catch", I mean a partner, or significant other, for some nice girl). I guess I believed her, the lying whore. That's the last time you make a fool out of me, Mother...the LAST time. If someone is the Joe Morgan of posters, it's not going to be UK. That's pretty uncalled for.
  22. Just walk up to the game. At the hotel a block away(can't remember the chain), there were plenty of guys with tickets for the Neifi GS game, and that was a Sunday Night game. We got 2 really good seats for only a couple bucks over face value(face value was 42 each I think, we paid 90 for 2). And that was over an hour and a half before first pitch.
  23. If pitchers get distracted, then why did the person following Pierre perform worse when Pierre was on base more? Apparently, Castillo's not good @ hitting w/ a guy on first. Small sample size considering the many, many speedy leadoff men who have played baseball... And yet a very sizable sample for the exact individual we're talking about. Can we see the effects from some of these other speedy leadoff men? Does it translate year to year? Or is it like "Cutch hitting" where the results fluctuate wildly from year to year? The correlation between Castillo and Pierre? The basic idea(Pierre does well, Castillo does worse, and vice versa) held true for 3 years I believe.

  25. I don't think a poster is going to give their credit card number to a poster who has been on here for just 2 posts. To be fair, it may be that TMTM would buy the tickets for Burton without his info.
