  1. But seriously, the guy has been robbed a bunch of times already.
  2. Now Volstad will cruise though the rest of his outing but the Cubs won't be able to score.
  3. DeJesus has been hitting the ball really hard the past few games. Not much to show for it, though.
  4. I hope he goes to a school that wasn't restricted. Saw a thing from his AAU coach that he may still try for a full release. He can try.
  5. Theo was really stressed out from all those high-pressure years in Boston, and Ricketts is a meatball who thinks that good players making too much money was a reason we were bad. Yeah, that's all bullpoop. Also, between the debt service on the Ricketts' purchase of the team and the Wrigley Field renovations, we have to prepare for our mid-market budget in the next few years. Obviously.

  7. That's about the size of it. The hit was weak as well, so it's hard to blame Volstad too much for that run. The six more that are apparently on the way will be definitely on Volstad. Yeah, unfortunately.

  9. I really love the movement on Volstad's pitches. If he can learn to paint with that stuff, he could be good.
  10. You must not be watching a lot of baseball this year. The Pirates have scored half as many runs as the Cubs this year. Ha! Check back in a month and see what it looks like. The Cubs haven't been good offensively, but they're hardly the worst offense in their division, let alone in baseball, without even considering them as one of the worst in history (I mean, look at Seattle last year). Their pitching, however, is one of the worst in baseball so far, and they've given up more runs than anyone except Boston. That is the kind of thing I don't think will keep up, as the starting pitching is better than they've shown in two weeks. Do you mean the 2010 Mariners? That was an horrid, abysmal offense. 2011 was really bad, but they were nearly 50 runs worse in 2010.
  11. Byrd looks like he's driving himself insane. Yeah, he appears to be on the verge of an episode. The guy is a hot mess right now.
  12. You must not be watching a lot of baseball this year. The Pirates have scored half as many runs as the Cubs this year. Ha! Check back in a month and see what it looks like. It's bad, but the Cubs have also gone up against some pretty good pitchers to this point. It'll get better. Not a lot better, but better.
  13. Maybe you have been taking Kyle's posts about Stewart seriously? One shouldn't take anything Kyle says seriously. Ever.
  14. This makes very little sense. Who in their right mind is embarrassed by the presence of that scoreboard? And no, you can't easily replace it with an electronic version that is the same size with replay screen and stats. Any replacement with a screen is going to require a much bigger size and/or much less information on the screen. They'd be better off maintaining and upgrading the board as is, and adding additional screens elsewhere in the stadium. This. The board isn't embarrassing, it looks fine and is integral to the personality of the ballpark. I'm sure it could be overhauled internally to resolve many of the issues, as well as preserve it. Adding other screens around the park is a much better idea. If we're talking things that need changed/replaced, the scoreboard is waaay down the list. The crumbling grandstands are embarrassing. The player facilities are embarrassing. The concessions are embarrassing. The playing surface was embarrassing. The scoreboard is a relatively minuscule issue.
  15. Jackson was also the #32 overall prospect according to BA, so it's not as if he's just the tallest midget. And aside from WAR, I don't any numbers that portray Upton as anything but a slightly above average offensive CFer, and I don't see any indications he's been bizarrely unlucky or poised for a breakout. But unless BJax cuts down his Ks and shows something in the second half of this year, my sentiment on this issue may well change. If Upton could bring his OBP up 20-30 points that would go a long way, imo.
  16. If Bjax is going to have value on a corner, he better cut down on the K's. A lot.
  17. Do you think either Jackson or Upton's bats would play on the corners? I see either's value taking a dive in such a scenario.
  18. So we should sign any player who represents an immediate upgrade at their position regardless of what prospects are waiting in the wings? If you have player who is one of your top 2-3 prospects and is nearly ML ready, you should only block them if it's to acquire a top-flight player. Particularly if neither player looks like a fit at another position. I'm not talking about superstars, Upton wasn't even top 10 among CF in OPS last year. Behind guys like Jon Jay, Melky Cabrera and Dexter Fowler. He has a hard time making contact and doesn't hit for enough power or walk enough to move his offensive game into the "very good" range. He's a good player, but I hardly see a pressing reason to pay the guy a bunch of money when Jackson is there. Is that really so offensive?
  19. Whoa whoa whoa...as bad as you think Upton is he was a significantly more high profile prospect than Jackson who did better in the minors and was up in the bigs having a monster season at Jackson's age. In actuality this is exactly the class of player you want the Cubs to pursue, especially factoring age and park factors in...Were talking an above average CFer in his prime here..... I didn't say Upton was bad, I said he wasn't so good you give him the job without letting Jackson take a crack at it.
  20. I know, suddenly it has become fashionable to play the role of penny pincher on this board. The fact of the matter is theo didnt win the WS by playing small market mentality with the red sox. Sure some of his prospects were difference makers but the vast majority of both teams were major trade or free agent signings. Anyone who thinks that the cubs can 'build' a world series contender solely through the draft is not only ignorant but arrogant. No team in the last 20 year years has won without a major free agent acquisition. Even the marlins teams. You cant ignore free agency. And you cant wait and assume free agents will be available when you need them. Sometimes you just need to go get them. I'm fine with spending money, I'm just not fine with spending money to spend it. IMO, Upton would be redundant. If this were Justin Upton, I'd say break the bank. He's not redundant. Brett Jackson has proven [expletive]. No, but Upton isn't so good you make that move without giving Jackson the chance. B.J Upton is not an impact player.

  22. I don't hate the guy, I just don't think he's a fit for the Cubs. I'd take him if he cane at a bargain, but I don't see how he's so good you say "[expletive] Brett Jackson" and sign him, and I don't see he (or Jackson) as corner OF.
