  1. Ridiculous? I think Mizzou is solid, but I don't see immense talent oozing from them. Illinois' talent is very raw, but I think there is more of it. Yes, I think it's ridiculous. I think this year's Mizzou team is much more talented than this year's Illinois team. We have probably the best TE tandem in the nation, an outstanding QB, and some very solid WRs, along with (the very inconsistent -- stop dancing and hit the hole!) Tony Temple. Our offense has the potential to be in the top 10 in the nation. The defense is still a question mark, but I think the pieces are there. I'm not trying to get into a big U of I/Mizzou argument here, because U of I impressed me in a lot of aspects today and I think we were very fortunate to get out of there with the W, but I think over the course of the season, Mizzou will show they are a lot better than they showed today and U of I will struggle a bit. Maybe that'll be different in a couple of years, but I don't think it will be this year. I think it would be "ridiculous" to say Illinois is more talented than, say, USC. Missouri is a team that, IMO, will likely finish at the bottom or just out of the top 25. Needless to say, this is higher than the Illini will finish, but that's not the point. I am an Illinois fan, but I have never really had much emotional investment in football, and am not prone to homeristic assessments of Illini football. I save that stuff for the hoops team. Missouri may be more talented than Illinois. But IMO, to say the argument is ridiculous is, well, ridiculous. Semantics, I guess.

  3. Wood outing. 20K games are more impressive regardless. Not only that, but most metrics say that it's the most dominant starting pitching performance in modern history. Yeah...there were 3 walks in this game...I'd be interested to see the game score though. So? Buchholz has three walks, too. Wood's game was far more impressive. There have been four 20 K games in the history of baseball. There have been 235 no-hitters. Yeah I was referring to Buchholz's game when I mentioned the 3 walks. I wasn't disagreeing. Wood didn't walk any. He had one hit that should have been an error. Actually, Wood's game was single single most dominating performance all-time, according to Bill James' formula.
  4. Like I said, youthful mistakes. Illinois is clearly the more talented team. I think they're competing for the B10 title next year.
  5. I'd be crying too if I gave away the game. But he is a true freshman, so it's forgivable.
  6. A lot of youthful mistakes for the Illini today. They'll be good, though.
  7. Daniel made a good play, but he just got blown up.
  8. To be fair, a lot of people seemed to agree that Michigan was wildly overrated. Even before today I didn't think they were even one of the top 2 or 3 teams in the Big Ten. that is such crap.. not you in specific. but everyone thought michigan was the best team. and i was screaming that they didnt have the defense!! but in my wildest dreams i didnt think they would lose today. THE BEST TEAM IN THE BIG TEN IS WISCONSIN HANDS DOWN I watched two or three analysts on ESPN alone yesterday say they thought Michigan was the most vulnerable top 10 team and that Wisconsin was the best B10 team.
  9. I knew Michigan was vulnerable, but I didn't realize just how much. Go Illini!

  11. Gameday made that HR look like it went over the apartments across the street.
  12. I chose Corey Hart over Braun for a couple reasons: A)Hart looks like a crack addicted caveman B)Hart kills us and should suck, while Braun does okay against us but is actually good.
  13. Could it be that they will go to a 6 man rotation to mitigate the lack of days off? I fear what you fear, but it may be that Trachsel is just insurance, or someone to eat some innings.
  14. I was sure that if Fielder was pitched to, he was going to go yard.
  15. He was going for a foul ball, couldn't get it and then fell over the plexiglass ball shield in front of the seats at that level. Probably bruised/pulled something in his midsection. Think he knocked the wind out, and gonna have 1 long line bruise. It looked like he centered his midsection on that gap, probably two separate bruises. He got a corner on either side. Ouch.
  16. Wow, the ump hasn't given anyone that pitch at any point tonight.
  17. I hope not, hes a quality player That hasn't helped him earn time up to this point.
  18. Whatever playing time Matt bought with that homer just went away.
  19. I don't think Ozzie is capable of coherent thought anymore.
  20. I thought his fate was sealed with the Monroe trade. Pie should sent to Iowa if he's going to be relegated to pinch running and late inning defensive roles. Not going to happen with a day until september callups. Just win cobs! Obviously, but it has been frustrating watching him waste away on the bench.

  22. That sort of thing usually results in someone getting slapped and/or arrested.
  23. Because Jones has been hot, he's a vet, and there are no RH options for CF unless you count Monroe, which Lou obviously doesn't. Jones looked pathetic Tuesday night against Shouse (Lefty) He did, but Pie wasn't any better against LHP when he was getting PT, perhaps even worse. I'd like to see Pie get more PT, but Jones has been doing pretty well overall. I am all right with playing him until his hot spell runs it's course.

  25. I think there is some truth there. It was a bad signing, but just how bad it was will depend it's place in future context. If the new owner(s) raise the payroll even more, it's consequence will be lessened. If the payroll goes down, it will be an albatross. The future of the market will have an impact on how it is viewed as well.
