  1. Hart looks like an anorexic caveman. I hate him.
  2. I've had that feeling for 20+ years now. Try to ignore it.
  3. Brunette + bigger boobs FTW.
  4. Exactly. 30 runs or no, the Orioles only lost one game. The Sox got bent over by Boston 4 times in a row. Totally owned. I'd think that being utterly humiliated four consecutive games would be more demoralizing than one freak game.
  5. However, I think having Prior back (in 2003 form) by July of next year is a more realistic expectation. I thinks an unrealistic expectation is to have Mark Prior back in 2003 form at any point ever again. Of course it is. But even 70% of what Mark Prior was is still a solid starter. I hope he gets some vindication, and it comes in a Cubs uniform.
  6. Yes and no. Predictable in that we got beat by a lefty, but the fact that Davis really didn't have his usual control problems was compounded by the fact that the Cubs hitters tried to take pitches, but the ump was giving him the call on balls low and outside. Since the D-Bags pitchers just pounded the ball outside, we really didn't have much of a chance. It reminded me of that Kyle Lohse game earlier in the year.
  7. Three year splits: Pre-ASB: 2.32 ERA 1.06 WHIP Post-ASB: 5.40 ERA 1.65 WHIP He sucks in the second half. Brutal! Sorry, I actually reversed those. That's what I get for not sleeping. I guess reality makes less sense.
  8. I'd settle for Derrek Lee circa 2005. http://www.tedwilliams.com/_data/images/1941s/title3.jpg a walk per game and only 27 (!!) strikeouts Which is why I said I'd settle for 2005 Lee. I'd much rather have Williams, but Lee at least has his head attached to his body, and isn't frozen. Even in such a state, I'd bet Ted could still hit better than some recent Cubs.
  9. You're still wrong. Carlos Guillen: 133 OPS+ Derek Jeter: 126 OPS+ Derek Jeter is a solid player, but he is also the most overrated, overpaid player in the game. He's very good, but his hype is the stuff of legend. And Guillen is a mediocre defender, but in reality so is Jeter, and spite of the flash. Quite frankly, I am still shaking my head at the Yankees moving ARod to 3B instead of Jeter. And including this year, Guillen has had a higher OPS 3 of the past 4 seasons. And the one season he didn't, he was hampered by injuries.
  10. Wuertz trying to make a game of this. I am really getting sick of the nibbling/walks.
  11. He's been lugging that thing around with him for a while now.
  12. Having a bad feeling comes standard with being a Cubs fan.
  13. I think the Cubs' staff need to be fitted for shock collars that are triggered when they start nibbling.
  14. What number is he wearing, out of curiosity?
  15. Whoa doctor, Hendry and his love for the 30 year olds. Are we looking forward to a 2008 OF that features Monroe and his .258/.303/.448 97 OPS+ career line in a prominent position? I really hope we only see this guy on the roster for the next 10 weeks. I think he pretty much said it right there. If Monroe performs like he is likely to perform, he will probably only be with the team for the remainder of the season. Now if he tears it up for the next 10 weeks..... Of course when the time comes, there is no guarantee Jim will be the one making the decision whether to keep him or not. The question then is, what would Jim consider to be tearing it up? I'd imagine Monroe could come up with some big timely hits and homers, and be considered by some to be tearing it up, while still actually putting up some seriously pathetic numbers overall. Regardless, even if he does do something like OPS 900 the rest of the way, does that justify trying to keep a guy like Monroe around? His peak is clearly in his past, his age 27 season .293/.337/.488 115 OPS+ (which, oddly enough, was heavily weighted toward hitting RHP). He pulled back to his more normal numbers as he approached 30, and is now nothing more than one trick pony. Granted, that trick is fun and all, and I've got no problem with him being on the team right now. But any sort of attempt to bring him back next year at anything more than a nominal one year contract would be very foolish, regardless of how he finishes up 2007. I totally agree. I can totally see Hendry re-signing him, which is why I hope the decision is made by a new GM. First of all your assuming that Hendry will be the person that gets to make the decision as to whether Monroe is re-signed or not. That is a pretty big assumption considering that if the Cubs do not go deep into the playoffs (or win the WS), this season will be viewed as a gigantic failure by everyone. I can't see him lasting too long at that point. Second, it is not a dumb move to give a struggling player encouragement. I hope nobody expected Hendry to say "We signed him to be a part-time player for this year, and after that we don't have any use for him." I am not assuming anything about Hendry's future, as my posts show. Secondly, Hendry said exactly what he should have said. What he may be thinking is another matter altogether. I like the move, in and of itself. I have no problem whatsoever giving up Rapada or Cotts for Monroe. Hendry traded a spare part for a potentially very useful one, at least for the stretch drive. However, he does have a track record a keeping a lot of the extra parts he acquires far beyond their usefulness, much to the team's detriment.

  17. How so? First and foremost, negligent usage by an inept manager that most likely led to some of his injuries. Secondly, the Cubs have more or less played along with the crowd who believes Prior is a wuss who isn't man enough to pitch through pain. They repeatedly said there's nothing wrong with him, when in fact, it turns out there was some serious problems. Yeah, Prior has kind of gotten the shaft. One would think there would be a lot of crow being eaten by those who questioned his manhood, but it hasn't seemed to happen.
