  1. Dreadlocks don't bother me. What I am sick of looking at are all these ridiculous uber-beards. Players shouldn't have to groom as if they're all on the Yankees, but this [expletive] has gone way too far.
  2. I figured Iowa would win comfortably with their size advantage, and Davidson picked a bad day to go cold. Iowa's defense had a lot to do with that, but they weren't hitting even when open.
  3. Injury risk aside (not just from in game sliding, but all the practice sliding it would take to perfect the technique), it doesn't seem worth it when your technique has to be pretty much perfect to gain a tiny advantage (if in fact there is even an advantage to be had). What percentage of the time would a runner realistically be able to actually nail this theoretical technique perfectly in-game?
  4. Pretty much every car I've driven since the early 2000s has had an auxiliary port standard. I don't think I've listened to over the air radio in the car since 2002-03. And even if I had no option but the radio, I'd rather listen to the worst AM white noise than sports talk radio. It's like listening to a bunch of agitated apes flinging verbal poo.
  5. If any team has ever had a worse ~1 year run of bad injury luck, I can't recall it. Just brutal.
  6. The Rangers must have really angered some deity.
  7. Pizza with an unleavened "crust" isn't pizza, it's an oversized hors d'oeuvre.
  8. And Soler scalded it, too, just right at the SS.
  9. Also who is the dude between Rizzo and Javy? And where the [expletive] is Russell? I believe the guy you're asking about is Jonathan Herrera.
  10. You haven't won a tournament game since pre 9-11. And yet Iowa continues to finish ahead of Illinois despite hearing every year about the next group of recruits you have coming that will change everything. After spending the better part of the previous two decades finishing ahead of Iowa, it's something we can bear for a while. And bickering about who has the better middle of the of the conference team isn't really becoming for anyone. Neither team is particularly good, and no one really cares who finished sixth or who finished eighth. But if a mini-run of finishing a game or two ahead of Illinois in the middle of the pack and going to the NIT or getting bounced in the first round fills you with bravado, have at it.
  11. Black was the dude with a takedown and just held White after a rebound 2 seconds after the ball was gone. And committing 7 fouls per 40. He's the goon. Be that as it may, Woodbury is a goon.
  12. It's a [expletive] great problem to have. Most teams would be excited as hell to have Alcantara as a SS option right now and he's not even a realistic middle infield option for us, much less SS. It's a great problem that's really not a "problem". There's room for everyone, at least in the immediate future. The only situation involving our top guys in which I can see one of them needing to be moved is if the IF guys all pan out and Schwarber makes it, but can't stick at catcher (Assuming that such a scenario would see Bryant in the OF). These media guys saying the Cubs need to move one of the middle infielders just aren't paying attention. Of course if Baez can't get it together, it alleviates just about any potential problem.
  13. Well that was...completely expected.
  14. I almost got all of the starting lineups, but I blanked out on a lot of the less noteworthy "top" prospects in the 2003-2010 range.
  15. I'm not completely sold on Harper's certainty, but that's a fair position.
  16. I'm saying I'd probably trade Bryant for Harper alone. It might sound crazy, but I'm not so sure that I would do that. He's still only 22, but he hasn't really gotten any better over his time in the bigs, he's down a few years of team control, and unless he learns to dial his style of play down, you have to look at him as being an injury risk. His performance could explode to meet his talent level at any time, but I'd take my chances with Bryant.
  17. I watched about three minutes of Brian Kenney debating Christopher Russo on MLBN, and that was all it took to fill me with a terrible rage and make me want to strangle Mad Dog. People like him are why I avoid sports radio like it's the plague. Meatballs are the [expletive] worst.
  18. I would generally agree, but be that as it may, we're not getting Hamels without giving multiple members of our top 10. It might not take one of the top 3, but we're talking about four years of one of the best starters in the game. I'd love to be wrong, but I think any scenario that see the Cubs get Hamels for anything less then Baez+ is a pipe dream. I still think the guy we end up with is David Price (via FA). And if this season goes well at all, giving up a pick in the 20s plus the dollar cost seems more palatable than giving up the haul that Hamels will likely require.
  19. Yeah, we got Russell for one and a half years of Shark, it's going to take more net value than that to get four years of Hamels, even factoring in the money. And obviously this isn't just about shedding payroll, it's about Amaro maximizing the return for Hamels to boost the rebuilding effort (and potentially save his job). Unless Amaro completely craps the bed on this (which is quite possible), it's going to take quite a bit.
  20. You think? If they were going to cut him loose, they'd have done it earlier and let the new GM conduct the rebuild, imo. I think ownership is going to let him do it. How the Hamels trade goes down may be the final nail in his coffin, though. If he botches it, that sets things back significantly. Darvish would be spectacular, but I don't see it happening. Texas is going to be a contender this year, imo.
  21. I think it's just a matter of time before the NL adopts the DH. The sooner the better, imo.
  22. Yeah, Preller is going to have a hard time keeping this team together as it is, and Kemp (barring some kind of resurgence) isn't going to be a very movable asset. There's a lot of risk in what SD has done this offseason, and I'm not sure they can afford to throw much more money at the roster. And yeah, Amaro would look pretty foolish if the main piece he got for Hamels left via FA before the team was even good again.
  23. Actually there's been some speculation that the Padres could trade Cashner + prospects to the Phils for Hamels as apparently Amaro is "enamored" with Cashner. I don't think adding another $15-20MM per year (assuming Philly sends a little money) to their payroll is something SD can do, unless there's some new revenue stream we don't know about. I know Upton is almost certainly coming off the books after 2015, but even so the Padres payroll is going to be high (for them). And it would take more than Cashner, I would think. Hamels is the big piece Amaro has to flip to boost his rebuild, sending him for a return with huge injury risk as the main piece would be less than prudent. Then again, Amaro doesn't seem to be the sharpest tool, so who knows.
