    what I'm saying that I think that Baez has very little value right now. His MLB stint last year only seemed to validate every concern about him. Trading him now would be to trade him would be to sell him at the nadir of his value, I would think.

    Yeah, I don't think Baez's value is "high" right now at all, certainly not comparable even to Shelby Miller. He's a giant question mark, with a decided lean to bust. That's not to say he will bust, but I certainly wouldn't give anything of value for him if I were a GM.

    We don't really have anything comparable to Miller to trade, though. If Atlanta was looking for pitching, it was just a matchup that wasn't meant to be.

    Swap Hammel for Anderson and you have the likely best case scenario for the off-season. I'd really hope that in a best case scenario the 2nd best pitcher is better than that. Brett Anderson hasn't pitched more than 112 innings since 2009. I'm fine throwing him into the mix as our 5th guy but not as our 3rd best starter. McCarthy?

    I think it has to do with expectations many people had for him (that he was going to be an offensive beast) that have gone largely unfulfilled. Defense just isn't as sexy as big offense, especially from a corner. I don't agree with it, but I'd bet that has a lot to do with the negativity.

    Well to be fair, the Braves' system isn't in the best shape. Of course the Cubs' system wasn't nearly what it is now when Vizcaino was in the top 5, either.

    that's basically my feeling. better get more aggressive on the other guys now with the extra $15-16M. Well, minus whatever they have to pay the catcher I'm still assuming that they'll get.

    Not sure about Jenkins but Walden made the AS Team for the Angels in 2011 and has been a solid if unspectacular middle reliever for awhile. Thanks. I posted before looking on B-R. I assumed he was a prospect. Relief pitchers that are not closers have to be the least recognizable players in baseball. He was the Angels' closer, and has closed off and on since. You might remember him as the guy who has both feet off of the ground midway through his delivery.

    This is disappointing, but like Kyle, more because I just want the Cubs to get something rather than being a huge fan of signing Russell Martin. At that price, it probably wasn't worth it. Maybe they can swing a trade for Montero.

    I'd take Ethier and money for Jackson. I think it may take more to get Crawford, who makes more, isn't as good, and is older. Kemp would definitely take more to get. After last season, I'm not entirely convinced Ethier is any better than Crawford.

    Your average football fan is probably the dumbest in all of sport. I mean Cutler hasn't been great by any stretch, but it never ceases to astound me how far people will go to make him the whipping boy for a problem that is much, much bigger.

    Well from Trestman's perspective, the potential net gain to his job security from his team scoring some garbage time points is not worth the potential disaster of one of his highly paid offensive stars suffering a serious injury during meaningless football. What's the disaster if Marshall has a hammy or twisted ankle or whatever? So what if he misses a couple weeks? Or hell, the season. There's nothing to protect him for. What if it's a catastrophic injury? There's no good reason for the highly paid and/or valuable assets to be out there right now. On another note, the only thing more insufferable than this game have been Kaplan's tweets.
