  1. WAY too much. I saw Shark at the Cubs convention a couple of years ago. Emerged right after they announced his arb agreement - and he was pissed. It sucks that it didn't work out with him, he got a real nice signing bonus and endured all the crap. Now that it's all seeming to come together, it seems that he got out at the wrong time. Shark seemed pissy about the Cubs FO on Espn Radio today. Hard to blame him, really. But it is a business.
  2. Given that the Rox owner loves CarGo, I think the price for him would be too high given the massive risk. As for Upton, I'd like to have him, but he is going into the final year of his contract and for some reason doesn't seem too fond of the Cubs. That being the case, I'd be hesitant to give a whole lot up for him. Maybe taking his brother with him would lower the cost and persuade him to waive his no trade. But I'm still not sure Theo is in the market for a one year rental who isn't exactly the OBP type.
  3. Passing up what is available now in favor of what might be available later probably isn't the best strategy, but I'm confident that this is what is going to happen. I think the Cubs will pursue and sign Price next offseason. And I can't say why, but I'm just not enamored with Scherzer as a long term option as much.

  9. Yes, but I'd me more concerned that he's a DL warmer. Colorado's owner loves him, so the cost would be high. Pass.
  10. I have to work a third tomorrow, so I'll be obsessing all damned night.
  11. John Doe has the upper hand. John Doe has the upper hand!!! I feel as though the wrath won't be nearly as fun for us as duping all of us will be for him. I'm not putting one iota of stock into it. He may be telling the truth or he may be a troll, but I'm not paying him any mind either way.
  12. Why photoshop a picture when you can just take one of him from those Old Spice commercials he does
  13. Of course it's not irrelevant. Someone who argues a catcher makes a 5 win difference in pitch framing alone is. I like our FO too much to believe they knowingly ran the relative Jake Fox out there behind the plate the last 3 years. If you take the position that they were all right with losing (or were losing intentionally) to acquire talent, then why would they not have? And perhaps they wanted to make sure Castillo was as bad at it as he appeared to be before going in another direction. Because him being a [expletive] framer(along with Navarro) hurts the trade value of all those pitchers you're looking to flip. Well then the latter still applies. They didn't want to boot Castillo until they were reasonably certain that he wasn't good.

  16. Meh. There are long term pitching options available out there just for cash as opposed to shelling out what few resources they have via their crappy farm system for a single season rental. That is a fairly good point; the Sox farm system is [expletive] as it is, why trade from what little you have for a rental when there are so many FA options out there (given the state of their payroll)? Maybe their plan is just to make their run this year and collect that pick when Shark walks, and not be that much worse off after 2015. Even then, trading prospects for Shark to get a non-top pick in 2016's draft seems pointless. If the idea is to compete in 2015 and beyond, why not go after one of the FA pitchers? And it's not as if any of this makes them favorites in the AL Central by any means, either. It's going to be tough sledding for them still. More puzzling to me is what Beane is doing. I'd be very nervous if I were an A's fan right now. Whatever, it's late and my brain is foggy.
  17. There is so much left undone for a lot of teams and so many players left out there that it is preposterous to say that at this point. Unless someone signs both Lester and Scherzer, nobody is beating Shark for nothing, Robertson, LaRoche, and Duke. There are a lot of names available in trade, too. The Sox have had a great offseason to this point, but it's very premature to say that they've "won" it.
  18. Is it possible Beane has gone rogue? Yeah, I have no idea what Beane is doing. Would he have anything to gain by getting himself fired?

  20. Apparently Jocketty said they'd have to be "blown away" to deal Bruce. This is clearly executive speak, but I don't think they're of a mind to sell low on him.
  21. So if not, we just do nothing? Typical. Yup, they'll just pack it up for the offseason, because that's clearly what that said.
  22. I [expletive] hate this [expletive] with a fiery passion. Yeah, MLB's offseason free agency drama really is just the worst.
  23. http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd358/Cloudstrife219/troysemotions_zpsxjxgwht0.gif With that out of the way... I don't think Rosenthal would have said it if he didn't have cause, and a denial from his agent would be expected regardless. If you take the Henry visit to Lester's home as a last ditch effort, the pieces fit.
