  1. I couldn't even get the live feed to start. I had to start from the beginning and advance to about 5 minutes behind for it work. That's funny; it is often pretty choppy for me, but this feed has been flawless for me thus far.
  2. I really hate blackouts. The radio broadcast is painful to listen to, especially with Coomer doing pbp.
  3. Russell and Baez swinging at ball fours really stinks. Especially Russell, since he was swinging for the fences and his run meant nothing. He really needs to tone down his two strike approach (and I'm sure he will, he's just a kid).
  4. I didn't see it live, but I heard about it before seeing it. I expected it to have been a lot more borderline; I saw it as a pretty clear error. Yes, it was hit hard, but he was right in front of it. If it had been called a hit in a non-no hitter context, I would have viewed it as a hometown ruling for the batter.
  5. Most of the guys over at OH know better, but there are a few that simply cannot accept the reality of it.
  6. Yeah, I like Brisbee, it's clearly meant to be somewhat facetious.
  7. I've been watching the Cubs for a long time, and I don't recall seeing so many basket homers in such a short period.
  8. I figured Hawk would have had his knickers in a knot over Strop's celebration (which was a bit much).
  9. They'll draft high regardless, because being terrible for multiple seasons isn't something that Amaro can avoid at this point. His reticence to sell his aging veterans 2-3 years ago has all but guaranteed that. I don't think they'd get [expletive] for him at this point anyway, so they might as well let him finish his career in Philly.
  10. That's ridiculous. No one would be upset if the Cubs started spending money, so long as it was spent somewhat wisely (no gigantic contracts for past their prime players, or Hendry-like contracts for relievers). If a good young players come to the market, by all means, throw as much money at them as it takes. As for Utley, I'd be perfectly fine seeing what he has left, though I'm not sure where he'd get his ABs, especially if Baez comes up.
  11. yes i want him launched into the sun almost as much as starlin You used to be cool, man. hating starlin is cool now be one of the cool kids David trying to assimilate Mojo into the collective.
  12. If the prices for Ross and Carrasco weren't prohibitive, they would have been dealt to someone.
  13. Maybe he isn't prepared to come to terms with the reality of his situation. Both in the standings, and how badly he fucked up during the offseason. Not doing anything is almost unbelievable.
  14. cherry pick? God you are ridiculous They had plenty of teams to trade with and chose not to. It's certainly disappointing, but it's worth noting that no one else got the guys (Ross, Carrasco) the Cubs were targeting, either. The prices were apparently too rich for anyone's blood. And I'm not going to fault them for focusing on pitchers with years of control left. I'd be curious to see what the Rangers were asking for Gallardo, though.

  17. I dont agree with this at all. Nothing against Mckinney, but he's an average defensive left fielder with a career OPS under .800. It's ok to trade him. Hoarding prospects was fun when they all have superstar potential. Yeah, Theo shouldn't empty the farm just because, but aside from Baez, there's not much in the minors at this point that I would lose any sleep over trading to fill an immediate need.
  18. Many deadlines spent scrutinizing ESPN's crawler, and getting furious when DirecTV or Comcast would play one of their ads over it just as it was going to show what I was waiting for.
  19. Thank you for giving me a brain splitting migraine. I mean I understand what you're trying to say -- but Mike Leake is not the guy that puts you over the top. If they win again it'll be because they still have Bumgarner pitching 3 games in a series and going crazy, not because of Leake. However they may lose quite a few more games in the future because they gave up their #1 guy. The inability of people to grasp that a move like this isn't about the postseason itself but about solidifying the ability to get there in the first place is mind bottling. Leake may not even pitch in the playoffs, but if he makes 11 starts over the next two months and has a 3.5 ERA vs. the alternative who may have a 4.5 ERA, that's potentially the difference between winning 4 games or 8 games and getting into or not getting into the playoffs. Well, we can't have people's minds being bottled.
  20. Pretty much, and now the Dodgers are going to be more motivated to scoop up another SP. Theo needs to pony up soon.
