  1. Who cares what strategies the team the Cubs are about to play might employ? I mean that's totally irrelevant on a Cubs board. Waste of time. I'm glad you stepped in, and in such a non-sophomoric, civilized manner.
  2. May 24th, 1984. All I really remember was Jody Davis hitting a homer (I was only 7). Box score
  3. If Barney keeps being selective he might actually be able to convert some of that added muscle to power numbers.
  4. Clevenger wearing out that left field line.
  5. That partially makes up for the few hits Ian lost to the shift over the past few games.
  6. There will invariably be dirtiness (though I think Weber was as clean as they come) in CBB, but if we look at it on a spectrum, I'm thinking Calipari is on the extremely filthy end of it. Cal is the coaching equivalent of Pigpen.
  7. No, the signings of Stewart and DeJesus were to plug holes. Vitters is still a question mark and DeJesus isn't blocking anyone. Both are cheap and could be moved easily if need be. Johnson is the only inexplicable one. None signify that "help is not close", or anything of the sort.
  8. The back of the rotation is light years better than what was thrown out there most of last year. One bad start from Maholm doesn't change that. It's a solid if not spectacular rotation 1-5. The offense and potentially Wood/Marmol (as we have seen) are the issues.
  9. Dropping games like these hurts. I have/had no expectations of contention, but I feel it's possible if the team can keep within sight of .500 in the first half. I feel the tam will have a strong second half fueled by Rizzo, Jackson and a softer schedule.
  10. Herpes. Actually it is some respiratory thing due to the cold last night, so he's just a pansy. Respiratory herpes Don't they give synthetic testosterone for that?

  12. I don't think Votto would have gotten 10 years on the open market, either. The Reds are overpaying where they barely have room to pay market value, and it's going to bite them in the ass.
  13. If it were a larger market team, I wouldn't have a problem, but for the Reds to be tying up this much money in guys who will likely be deep into decline well before their contracts are up isn't wise, imo. It's good PR and will provide some roster security in for the next few years, but unless they just discovered a gold mine under GABP, it's foolhardy.
  14. Wow, he watched the fastball right down the pipe
  15. The defense has been very nice too. I may be way off here, but wasn't he one of the rare offensive players who's splits were better away from Coors as opposed to at home there? Pretty close to even, iirc.
  16. Stewart has actually looked really good. He's hit the ball hard and worked deep into ABs.
