  1. I call CG for Sheets.
  2. Is anybody actually using that argument? That's it's not manly to wear a glove? I wear a glove all the time. But only when I'm, you know, playing. Why do you care about this at all? Teams allow people to come to the ballpark with a glove, announcers tell fans to bring their gloves all the time. Who the hell cares if some 30 year old wears his glove to the game?
  3. His numbers were dramatically down his last season in ATL too. I don't know what happened to him. After a good '05 and '06, Andruw had lost nearly 40 points off his OPS+ in '07 with the Braves. It's a massive drop.
  4. It never was. Some would disagree. But I've always thought it was fine if you have children with you. No, there's never been any such unwritten rule.No gloves allowed for fans over 12, man. C'mon, you're killing me here. why? this is the stupidest rule ever. Let the youngsters bring gloves in the hopes of catching a ball. Are you really going to bring your glove and snag it away from a little kid anyway? It also makes you look like a huge dork. I laugh at grown men who bring gloves, because they're often the same guys who end up waiting for autographs with the kids outside of the players' parking lot after the game. Waiting for players after the game outside the park for autographs = dork. Has nothing to do with bringing a glove to the game, there's no correllation. As far as "snagging a ball from a little kid," how do you know they aren't trying to snag a ball for their kid? Lame post. Exactly. Also, many of those "dorks" who are with the kids getting autographs after the game are their DADS. Duh. Good to see the little guy is doing better.
  5. Rough day, but we won 2/3 and the Crew lost 2/3 this weekend. We gained a game on them overall heading into the break. I can't remember the last time we had 57 wins heading into the all star break. We have played 95 games now. The Cubs would need to win 38 games in the 2nd half to get to 95 wins, a number which I think guarantees the division crown and home field advantage through the NL playoffs. We're basically 5 games up on both St. Louis and Milwaukee (loss column). We're in the driver seat. We just went through the toughest road stretch of the season and came through unscathed, August is full of home games. September will be rough though, if we haven't sealed the deal by then. Everyone should feel very good about where we are right now. We get Soriano back very soon, and barring other injuries we should be pumping on all cylinders heading into the stretch run. We aren't even playing our best baseball and we're maintaining our division lead. I'm happy for now.
  6. Well, looks like that Brewer game is the last chance to salvage something positive from the day. Go Dusty.
  7. Wow did that nip the very back of his head?
  8. The key here is to make Lincecum work so we can get him out of the game earlier.
  9. CC just drilled CPatt in the back. Bases juiced nobody out.
  10. Ouch. Well, we need rest for Jimmy Ed and Soto. I suppose it's a necessary thing. Definitely hurts our chances to win though.
  11. Hey Lou, what happened to your plan to give Marmol a nice long rest and then "see where we are after the break?"
  12. I'm more worried about Bay being a Cardinal for the future. This year, I'd love for them to go crazy on rentals and lose one of Anderson or Rasmus, but I don't like them improving their team long-term. Yea I can understand it from that perspective. However like you said Id love to see them lose Anderson and/or Rasmus. Speaking long term though, that team still will have questions. Glaus isnt a long term guy, Izturis isnt either, Kennedy or Miles dont scare anyone, Ankiel is a free agent after next year, LF is a revolving door of unknowns, and who knows if this is the real Ryan Ludwick, or a career year? Their rotation will have Wainwright, Carp(who knows how good), and others. So while the Cards have shown this year they can hang around, I think they are still a quite a long way away from being legit contenders for a WS. Yeah, the problem the Cards are facing is that they need pitching, and the legit top of the order starters that are likely to be on the market are now gone. That's why they are hoping and praying for the strong return of Wainwright & Carp. They can acquire Bay if they wish, but to a certain degree it's more of the same for them. They already score enough. I agree on the future thing though -- I wouldn't want to see Bay on the Cards in upcoming seasons. I would think the Pirates would be biased towards trading Bay to a team they only face 7 times a season, not 19 times a season, unless the deal is much better from the divisional team. Could be wrong though.
  13. No surprise it's Boras floating this ridiculous number. It's always him. Tex isn't getting that much money. Floating a ridiculous contract number is part of Boras' formula though.
  14. Keep 'em close until the Gnats go to the bullpen. That's all I ask.
  15. :rotfl: Kinda like they didn't know what to do from inexperience, eh? ....so they just started throwing together as many baseball announcing cliches as they could remember from past moments they saw on TV? Great stuff. Soooo revealing. BTW, the Carddies put down 22 hits tonight. And LOST. Hahahahahhh.
  16. Good, more arms fresher for after the break. I'd rather Zambrano and Demp not pitch too.
  17. i live in a pittsburgh market... i'm pretty sure they've been silent for the past 10 years just to dump it all into this game. usually they're as quiet as hawk when the white sox are losing. http://www.fangraphs.com/lgraphs/280712123_Cardinals_Pirates_92665875_lbig.png It's always crazy to see one of those charts go from the 99th percentile in one direction all the way over to the other side. Nutty!
  18. 5.5 over the Cards, 6 over the BrewCrew
  19. Meltdown day turned out not too bad after all! :yahoo:
  20. LOL the Pirates announcers are hilarious right now. :rotfl:
  21. OMG PIRATES WIN PIRATES WIN PIRATES FRAKKIN WIN!!!!!!!!!!111
  22. Chavez gets a hit, Pirates don't have the players to make any kind of move, then LaRussa goes to the BP. It's scrappy time out east.
  23. Too bad Bautista waited until after giving up the game to start putting together a few pitches.
  24. the only explanation is there is no explanation
