  1. I thought that might be the case, but Haugh's source was Mitchell, who said Angelo had called him and said the Bears were going to take him. So unless he's not telling the truth, it looks like Angelo was ready to use that pick on Mitchell. Going to take him, but when? These players aren't very smart people, and they are in a fog on draft day. It's like the game phone tree, where Angelo telling him he might be interested in taking him in the draft being interpreted as Angelo is going to draft me with his first pick. They have an interest in defending their own dignity, none of them want to be the guy that nobody had interest in drafting. Most of them insist they should have been taken earlier. It's certainly possible, given Angelo's history. He's overdrafted before, but generally speaking he takes guys a round or two earlier than most gurus had them going. He doesn't take guys in the second that most people didn't think would be drafted. That's true, he could have been mistaken about what Jerry really meant.
  2. If Williams is a question at RT, then anyone they would have taken would have been a bigger question. Williams will be developing on the line, in the trenches next year. I don't see how the draft would have changed that dynamic. I agree on Pace, but I don't think you sign Cutler and then turn over his backside to a draftee. Shouldn't every draft have some OL in it anyway? I don't see how the Bears are in some extraordinarily weak OL position now. They've picked up plenty of veteran help now. They should be drafting OL every year just because of the number of bodies needed and the attrition. So I agree they need more draft focus on the OL, but I don't agree they're in a weak position for next year. Not at all, IMO.

  4. I thought Matt Shaughnessy went a round too early, but otherwise no major overdrafts on day 2. Getting Louis Murphy in round 4 was a great value, I thought. Mel Kiper did say he talked to one team that thought Michael Mitchell was a 3rd round pick and will be a pro bowler for the Raiders. From what I've heard in this thread, that was likely the Bears. It's a little disconcerting to know that Angelo was ready to reach with the Raiders on Mitchell, but who knows? Kiper isn't the end-all, be-all of draft analysis, much as ESPN would like us to think so. There have been plenty of picks that he thought were bad that turned out good. Maybe Mitchell turns out OK. Still, it can't be seen as a value pick at all. It's a reach -- but sometimes even reaches work out. Kiper actually said that same thing on Mike and Mike this morning. He said he talked to numerous GMs after the draft about Mitchell and most had him in the late rounds or as an UDFA. The Raiders and the other unnamed team were the only ones with a high grade on him. I heard him. He also said that if 2 teams had him on their boards, then maybe it wasn't so bad. There are way worse draft GMs than Angelo. If he had him on his board I don't think you can just dismiss the kid out of hand. Especially on the defensive side of the ball, where Angelo has a decent draft track record.
  5. He does flop in an incredibly over-exaggerated way. Is he really this good? I've been very surprised by his play. I didn't know he could shoot like that.

  7. I was more interested in a draft scout vid that I saw, which showed Gilbert's excellent hand work and burst off the line. This guy is super quick, a penetrator. He won't be able to clog the line, so he's exactly the kind of guy Lovie likes. His job will be to beat OGs to the gap and get into the backfield. That's what Lovie's D asks for. There are many teams he wouldn't be a good fit. He's a perfect fit for Chicago.
  8. The last time they had a QB to make it worthwhile 8-) Overall I like this bear draft. Lots of athleticism
  9. Seemed pretty clear to me OL would not be a priority
  10. No, it's boo hoo, he absolutely sucks and should not be on this team. he's a perfectly acceptable backup middle infielder. He's just not Derosa. .095/.175/.095 so far. OPS+'ing at around -30. He couldn't succeed at AAA right now, let alone be an acceptable bench player. If he picks it up, fine, but right now he's not close to an acceptable backup middle infielder.
  11. I think the Bears' strategy is to keep their current defense intact, and improve it over last year with better coaching. Will it work? I don't know. But that seems to be the strategy. Trading Tommie for Boldin would seem to break with that strategy.
  12. He's been caught stealing twice. Every game? I think he's talking to Lou, not just Theriot. Players are running into outs just about every game. They have 7 CS on 14 attempts, and they've made numerous other baserunnings gaffes. Yes exactly what I was talking about. Either Lou needs to start giving the red light to these guys, or somebody needs to tell Lou that he doesnt have the fastest and/or best baserunning club here, and to just stop with the steals. I don't know what the deal is, but doesn't it seem a little much to believe that Lou doesn't realize Theriot isn't a good base stealer? I mean -- he sees him get thrown out all the time just like everyone else.
  13. I'm really impressed with Noah's progress, actually. My main issue is he's slight for a big man. But he's come farther than I thought he would.
  14. Hate to say it, but that looks like a pretty good move for the Titans if they can swing it. Edit: wrong player.
  15. completely ignore his 5 year struggle prior to 07-08. Soto is a fluke. You're right. Hitters never develop. What they are at 26 is the same as what they were at 21. It's understandable to expect him to drop off a little last year, but it's way too early to call him a fluke. I'll give him some time but it's very disappointing to see this from him. He also didn't get to have a typical spring training, as he participated in the WBC. It's natural to expect some regression from last season, but for someone to call him a fluke because he's struggled in 36 plate appearances this season is asinine. I really don't think the WBC can be blamed. Fuku was in the WBC too, and has been off to a hot start (just to give one example). I agree calling him a fluke just because of a poor start in '09 is harsh.
  16. That would be gross, but maybe still worth it.
  17. He's just trolling you/us. You should know SSR better than to think he'd say something like, "They just want it more," and actually mean it. :) I'm supposed to be exempt from being trolled on warm, sunny Fridays when I need to be in the office but can only think about getting outside :)
  18. I still do from the Cutler trade. Boldin might force me to seek medical attention. I might have a perma-boner, THEN TAKE MORE VIAGRA.
  19. Oh, come on! If Angelo can somehow trade the #49 pick and a player to Arizona's liking for Boldin - you have GOT to do it! That makes your first round pick = Jay Cutler and your second round pick = Anquan Boldin and then you can relax until #99 in the third round! DO IT, JERRY! :clapping: holy [expletive]. yes please. Yeah, now a ton of teams are going to be "all over him" though.
  20. BOLD PREDICTION: Britt falls, Bears snap him up, we all go nuts!
  21. I'm really sick of this game the Chicago media plays with certain players, where a guy won't talk to them so they start casting aspersions all over the place, trying to turn the fans against him, yada yada. It's their way of pulling rank, trying to establish their power over the players they cover. If Bradley won't talk to them, then they try to get him blackballed, essentially. By the fans, by other media guys, etc. etc. And people read the articles, form their opinions as if the articles are 100% true. Suddenly all you hear are fans repeating what they heard some columnist say a couple days ago. The beat goes on. It's really old and tired. The guy should be criticized because he isn't hitting the baseball. That's it for me. I don't really care if he doesn't like Sullivan, or won't talk to whoever.
  22. They just want it more. They have a bigger backlash to fear if they lose. They're simply a better ballclub than the Bulls. But this miracle comeback from injury thing is a tried and true tradition with the Celtics. They use it to create drama. I congratulate them, but I also see it for what it is. This is not new in sports. wooooosh Uhh...guess I missed the sarcasm.
  23. Or maybe the guy who signed the person when everyone knew he was worthless. It's usually more a leadership/management issue, true. Maybe people are advocating a deferred kick in the nuts to Miles, to be delivered on Hendry if he doesn't rectify this thing.
  24. If no one falls through to 49, then I could see Angelo doing that. He's traded down before, of course. It's something he will do if it looks good to him.
  25. Beacuase all and all, hes the best hitter on the team and is capable of producing a lot more runs down the lineup. While I agree Sori should be moved down in the order, I think its pretty obvious ARam is our best overall hitter. Put ARam 3 then. Just move Lee down a bit.
