  1. It can be done, it will just be a lot tougher. Agreed. They are a good enough team to overcome this, but it doesn't leave a lot of margin for error. Take into account the whole picture though, we've been a mash unit in too many other places too
  2. I guess it would be about right to lose aramis for the year tomorrow then learn harden's arm fell off and soriano got hit by a truck the way this season has gone
  3. I don't think we can do this without ARam. I'm contemplating a week long drunken stupor, maybe kill a random dog or something
  4. It's actually kind of fun reading those vancouver sun articles -- the style of writing is one that conveys how much hockey means to them. Good to hear it. Although, there are some missed edits in there, but whatever.
  5. It has found steroids in some cases, though. The testers know there are ways to mask the use, so they look through those substances and put them on the list too. Makes it harder to cheat the system. And then they tell the players whenever you are going to be putting something in your system, make sure it is checked out or apply for an exception. After that, I'm comfortable nailing someone who either A) is using them to cheat, or B) simply ignores the policies of their employers.
  6. I have friends from Cleveland and I once tried to get all humorous on them about their city. Did *NOT* go over well, at all. Got the 5 minute lecture on all the great new things Cleveland has done to improve the city. Ouch. I'd love to forward those vids to them, but I have a feeling they wouldn't see the humor. I was laughing all the way through though. Great stuff.
  7. Marinelli's reputation goes beyond just what most of the defensive linemen on the team are saying about him right now. Sapp and Rice still rave about him. And you could say the defense in Tampa had some success there for quite a while, if that's what you want to base things on. I have to give more of that credit to Monte Kiffin and Tony Dungy rather than Marinelli. Sure they were good, but they also signed/drafted extremely talented defensive lineman. Marinelli didn't make Warren Sapp. I'm certainly *hoping* what they are saying about Marinelli is true.
  8. I hate to be a rotten egg, but frankly what players say about their coaches means little or nothing to me. Players rave about coaches who fail miserably all the time, then rebel against coaches who win Super Bowls.
  9. Are they raving because he's getting more out of them and they genuinely like that, or is it just because they were concerned he'd crack the whip, but it turns out he's not? Because as good as Marinelli's reputation is, I don't think the latter is going to work out all that well in terms of getting that improved performance that everyone is looking for.
  10. I don't think it was a poor strategy. It certainly wasn't fan-friendly, but it's not their job to entertain us. Their strategy worked like a champ against the Hawks all night and if not for an amazing hussle play and sweet pass by Ladd, followed by a perfect shot by Havlat, the strategy probably would have led to a win. I'm still waiting for that game where the Hawks blow up for the first minute and run them out of the building like they did the Flames in one the games, Game 5, I think. It would be nice to see them repeat that effort. LOL @ the Havlat photoshop job. Yeah -- we need to get the early lead for once. That would be the thing that stops Vancouver from playing to their strength, going with the snuff-out strategy and leaning on Luongo. I guess you're right though, if that's what you do best then you go with that when you have the lead. We just need to not let them get into that position anymore.
  11. So what does everyone think? Poor strategy by the Canucks trying to kill the game with only a one goal lead? I could understand doing it up 5-2. But up 1-0? Seems like you have to figure a team like the Hawks is going to be able to push one solitary goal across. That was an awesome game last night. Luongo was incredible -- and it was even more incredible when we finally got to him!
  12. i think red sox and cleveland fans who are still big fans of manny can feel cheated. but if they don't really feel any connection to him, then who cares? they got his best years and he wasn't suspended for any of them. the dodgers thought they were getting a full year of him on one of the best teams in the NL, and now he has to miss almost a third of the season because he cheated. I must admit, I'm a little peeved that the Dodgers got Manny, he was juicing, and he lifted them to a playoff run that left the Cubs as trash on the side of the road. Now -- I'm not suggesting that the Cubs played well and it was only because of Manny that we lost. But who knows how things turn out? I don't know. There's probably secret juicers on the rosters that people don't know about (yet). So it's difficult to point fingers, but the emotional Cub fan in me is a little peeved, that's all. I mean, I am pathetic -- I do live for this stuff :) If there's any slight chance that the Cubs would have gone further in the playoffs and it was denied, I can't help but be at least a little upset here.
  13. Just making the World Series would give me a massive coronary, I'm not sure the outcome would even matter.
  14. Yeah, on the other hand, if your MLB manager asks you to be more patient and then you respond by first-pitch hacking 3 straight times, you're an idiot.
  15. Taxes, agent's cut, personal assistants, trainers, nutritionists, big houses (although you figure the big house will eventually retain its value once we're out of the recession), nice cars, expensive dinners, parties, friends. It adds up. The level of lifestyle he's likely living would need to be downsized. Which can be done, of course. Kind of painful, but it can be done.
  16. You think that matters to him? Clearly not. I've always hated the guy, so his legacy can't go any lower for me. And perhaps he's one of those guys who just doesn't care about his legacy. I wouldn't go so far as to say I hate him, but once his whole "cool cat" routine was exposed as an act, it certainly removed much of the lustre from his image, IMO.
  17. If he agrees to come back now, there will be pressure to show up to at least one offseason workout. He can't have that. Look for him to return in the middle of training camp, right when two-a-days start to decrease. That's exactly what I was thinking. Or at least in mid July, when all the boring OTAs and such are over.
  18. deal. This could be entertaining.
  19. All part of the smokescreen. It was some over-the-counter thing. It was some supplement he didn't know contained steroids. It was some after-affect med that really isn't steroids. It was this. It was that. It was anything you want to tell yourself if you can't bring yourself to believe that your hero is a cheat.
  20. Im saying Brett Favre next year in Minnesota, where he would not be throwing the ball 30 times a game, will have a better year then Cutler in Chicago. He's not coming to Minny to hand the ball off every play.
  21. Wait, is someone actually trying to argue that a 40 year old QB coming off a disastrous late-season collapse isn't declining? Really?
  22. Over the course of the past few years, it's become clear that the best way to deal with a situation like this is: 1) Give the excuse that it was some prescribed or over-the-counter pill. This puts doubt in the mind of everyone who wants to believe that you aren't guilty. It allows the argument to at least be made that you might not have actually done it. 2) Don't deny it. It makes it 10 times worse. Just take your punishment, and people will eventually stop freaking out over it. So Manny's following the prescribed path.
