  1. I know OPS isn't the end-all, be-all of baseball existence, but Scales has been on a steady climb since '05. That kind of caught my eye during Spring. It would be nice to see him get something for his MLB stat line before he heads back to Iowa.
  2. First batter, good result. 2nd one, not so much.
  3. Gameday has Rowand swinging at a pitch that was roughly 6 feet outside. It was a very nasty slider.
  4. 30-ish AAA player, been hanging around that level for a long time. Had a nice year at the plate last year @ Iowa.
  5. I don't get it either. Z is a pretty athletic guy -- it's part of who he is to do those kind of hustle plays. Taking that away from him would be a net negative, IMO.
  6. I would assume a guy can't until he proves he can. He has looked, to me, far more pedestrian in the games he doesn't have the velocity though. Obviously it plays a major role in his dominance. He looks more like he just completely loses the handle on his command to me.
  7. Yeah, it really is. The correlation is not 1.0, but they are positively correlated without question. So there's never been a pitcher who has lowered his pitch speed and maintained close to the same effectiveness? He said the correlation was not 1.0. Just because a guy, or some guys can do it on occasion doesn't mean there isn't a correlation though. By and large, if guys lose velocity, they will lose effectiveness. Why can't Harden be one of those guys then? I said it isn't directly proportional, not that there isn't any correlation.
  8. Yeah, it really is. The correlation is not 1.0, but they are positively correlated without question. So there's never been a pitcher who has lowered his pitch speed and maintained close to the same effectiveness?
  9. No kidding. I'll pony up for MLB.tv eventually, but until then, the lack of WGN games is annoying. As soon as I move to New Orleans at the end of May I'll buy MLB.tv. I won't be subject to any blackouts :yahoo: \:D/ :D :good: Unless you fall into one of MLB.tv's inexplicable blackout black holes, that is.
  10. I kind of like the idea of a Wells spot start. He's pitching decently at Iowa and nobody has a book on him. Might be enough for a single quality start.
  11. House/24 night for me. Frankly I'm happy the game isn't until tomorrow.
  12. There's never any discussion of why the velocity might be down. It doesn't automatically mean an injury or tiredness. It could just be that the guy is trying to preserve himself. Also, velocity is not directly proportional to effectiveness.
  13. That game was much-needed after watching the Bulls get beat in Boston. Just keep harrassing Luongo. I don't care who you are -- ya can't stop what ya can't see.
  14. I really doubt Ryan's going to try to be a home run hitter now. It's the same Theriot.
  15. Bruce was just on the score speculating that it would be Wells.
  16. I don't think Marvin is a fit with this team. I think he'd be a nice veteran to have if one of Bennett/Iglesias take a little while to perform well. That said, his best days are behind him. I just don't see it working out. He's played his entire career in the dome and his sort of aloofness worked with that team's structure. But the Bears are looking to establish an offense, and develop receivers. Marvin isn't going to be the type that helps the young guys. I feel like it will take a lot to convince him to play in Chicago, and that would be a poor use of cap space. They already had to overpay Pace. Had Orton remained at QB, perhaps he'd work as somebody to help him, but I'd rather Cutler just gain some sort of connection with the younger guys that are going to be the difference between this offense working or not. That's a valid argument. Bringing in Harrison would be a "win-now" move more than a move to help develop the young guys. The question teams are struggling with right now is whether he has enough left to truly help teams win now. Seemed like Harrison wasn't running all that well, and that was on turf. Can he even gain separation -- on grass -- in the snow? Seems like a poor fit, but what do I know.
  17. Theriot could end the season with only one HR, and it's a granny. I wonder if that has ever happened before.
  18. Except both of those would suck, no? yeah and you'd probably end up pissing your pants at some point too haha, yeah.
  19. Can't throw a strike. Now he's striking everyone out. Watching Marmol these days is like having your head dunked in alternate buckets of hot and cold water.
  20. The 4th round makes sense. That is where Jerry likes to target off the radar guys. Before that he may have a tendency to overdraft, but in the middle of the draft it's not at all unusual to think of him taking a guy that many people had going undrafted. The Melton guy is an example. When he was selected NFL.com didn't even have his basic measurements available, which tells me he was on very few people's radars for even getting drafted. That could have been Mitchell. That's the way it appears. He'd have been a really interesting pick in the 4th round. He was a huge reach in the 2nd, however. This is also a pretty good example of Haugh, and the kind of unsubstantiated reporting he does. I'm not a big fan.
  21. Yeah, just don't come back after the series and try to downplay Gordon's ability, KG. You know he's a capable opponent, which is why you couldn't help yourself getting in his face from the bench the whole damn series.
