  1. Unless you're there. Because you can sort of bounce between the camps, hang out at the practice fields, etc. etc. It's a fun little winter vacation. I think ST baseball is a better trip than TC football, just because of how they have it set up.
  2. I saw a vid of the cab driver speaking and he claimed that he DID say that. Actually, it's the vid at the top of this page The witness who saw Kane doing it (and was the person who called the police) claims he was yelling that too. ("You don't know who you're $*&%ing with!!") But its like Banedon already said, even though they were in Buffalo which is basically Canada, 99% of the country still wouldn't recognize Kane. The more I think about it, probably a lot more people in Buffalo would recognize him, but still. Then the lawyer's comments about how the cabbie didn't recognize them -- almost as if he did, then things would have gone differently. Which I'm sure is true. I agree with the general sentiment. This thing will be settled and everyone will move on. But back in Chicago, the talk will continue. The best thing Kaner can do is play the rest of the offseason by the numbers, do everything that is asked of him, and have a good start to the season.
  3. What a joke. In 2007, the Cubs were 33-39, 8.5 games out of first place on June 21. They proceeded to go 19-5 over the next month and were 2.5 games out on July 20 and were never more than 3 games back the rest of the way. Also in 2007, the Cubs are 73-71 and 1 game back on Sept. 11 after being in the lead or tied for the division lead for much of the last month. They proceed to go 10-2 over the next 12 games to open up a 3.5 game lead going into the final week of the season. In 2008, the Cubs watch a 5.5 game lead on July 12 disappear after going 3-7 in their next 10 games and are tied with the Brewers. It's the first time the Cubs haven't had sole possession of first place in two months. They respond by beating Florida in the final game of the series then go to Milwaukee and sweep the Brewers (beating Sabathia and Sheets) and don't trail by less than 3.5 the rest of the way. Your talking about April and stuff, not mid August. I will agree what I said was a little extreme though. Those teams weren't dealing with the injury load we are, as I remember. But whatever. Obviously it's not over until its over. I think we all know that.
  4. Just knew this was gonna be a disaster. On Friday, I knew. It came from Cubbie hell, and suddenly I knew. "We're gonna suck in this series."

  7. It's a lesson it took me far too long to learn: Hope for the best, but expect the worst. Part of growing old with the Cubs.
  8. Could be 3 back in both the division and the WC by the end of tonight. With what? 45 games to go? Diggin' a fine, deep hole for ourselves here. We've got Philly coming up, a west coast swing that includes LAD. Injuries are continuing to pile up and suck the marrow from our bones. Help me out here. I'm not seeing the positive. That hole is starting to look like a grave.
  9. Wonderful inning! Way to fight back Cubbies!
  10. Too late Fred, I think Soto got out before you could post the stats that would SAY he's going to get out.
  11. I can't believe they actually play the Great America happy dance music when they hit a homer.
  12. I had no idea at all that we have had Aromashodu since December 9th of last season. Not the first clue.
  13. I must admit, it's really odd that a NHL player would care about change on a $15 cab fare. Who cares. Why would you even ask for exact change back? You'd just give him the $15 and go.
  14. Well, now that you called out zaidman's tweet :)
  15. It's going to start gaining more attention. No QB controversy to keep everyone busy, you know.
  16. Well, FWIW the police charged them with felony robbery, so someone beyond the cabbie thinks they did something criminal. I doubt the police or the DA would be party to the settlement money in the forthcoming civil suit.
  17. I have too, but most recently, I think he's become more sensationalistic. I still like him, but like many on that station, he comes to some odd conclusions for the purposes of getting ratings...or at least that's the conclusion I've come to. Yeah, but it hasn't just been him though. OK, I'm going to file this into the "rumor and innuendo" file for now.
  18. What's the talk? If it's not based on some new development that I haven't heard yet, people have been trying to make something out of nothing (especially MacNeil) with that for a while. It's known that Tommie Harris has a bad knee. Who doesn't know this? This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. I don't know why people are at all surprised that they're giving him a very light workload. If he was hurt, they wouldn't have even have him doing the individual work he's doing. I suppose if those guys were under some kind of delusion that Tommie was truly healthy and didn't have a bum knee, then I can see why they're worried. He's not the same guy. They're going to have to take whatever precautions they can to have him be a productive player for the rest of his career. I heard it from Holmes this morning. They're saying that they see him limping around. I don't know. I didn't see that while I was there, but that was over a week ago. I don't think Holmes is delusional to the point where he thinks Tommie is supposed to be like he was when he came out of college. I've generally thought of his Bear reports as a bit above many of the others.
  19. Bo Jackson did it. Selected first overall in 86 by the Bucs but didn't sign out of principle. He was then selected in 87 by the Raiders in the 7th round. What was the principle? lol they lied to him about the legality of a "visit" and it cost him his senior year of baseball at Auburn. So yes, certainly nothing to "lol" about I think. Bo was quite pissed about that. Oh take it easy...I didn't know, and I figured the princple was "they won't pay me enough"...so describing it as a "principle" amused me. That's why I asked. Reading up on the situation (I also did not know), Bo Jackson is really an exception that has nothing to do with a Crabtree holdout and possible re-entry to the draft. In Jackson's case, an NFL team actually took action to undermine his eligibility (in other words, they tried to screw him). The main point here is, if Crabtree is really interested in more money, holding out an entire season and re-entering the draft is unlikely to produce the result he's looking for. He would likely be drafted lower and paid less.
  20. Look at the bright side. If there were lingering questions about which of Toews or Kane the Blackhawks should commit to, if it comes to that.......the answer has just been delivered on a bloodied cab driver's police report.
  21. More talk about Tommie Harris and his health today on the radio. Now I'm starting to get a tad worried.
  22. I can't say I would really be upset if Davis was cut. He seems like a nice guy to me. And I know he's been the first player out on the practice field some days, working on quick catching the ball directly from the kickoff machine. I think he gets it -- his hands are in question. But, the NFL is brutal. If the coaches and QB feel they are more comfortable with someone else, it's going to be tough. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone else take a look at him if he is cut.
  23. I kind of like when Bradley breaks stuff and gets mad. That might be the most entertainment I've had all night.
  24. I don't believe that. I've seen Cub teams tank, and when that happens they just lose. Almost regardless of competition. I know the division isn't that strong, but I still think the Cubs have done a good job not letting themselves just sink under the weight of the challenges they've faced this season. These next 7 will be tough. Now with Z still shaky, even more so. I'm definitely concerned.
