  1. Yeah I read that in the Tribune too. Seems like they're preparing harder than they have in over a month. Hopefully it pays off. What article, exactly? Yes, link please? Not doubting it----I hope it's true. But this isn't what I've heard.
  2. Aretha Franklin?? Not a very intimidating choice of intro tune You know, I always mess that up. I always think the song is called Respect, but it's not. It's called Walk, by Pantera. Come to think of it, LOL-----a song called Walk would definitely *NOT* be good for a pitcher! Great tune though.
  3. I don't believe there's such a thing as an anomalous season. Not an entire year. That sounds like there's no assignable reason----just bad years, which happen because the gods say so. Dempster had a down year, there were reasons for it even if we can't identify or quantify them. Hard to say if he'll bounce back. I wouldn't think the Cubs will come out in the press and say, "we know Dempster's going to suck but we're just keeping him around anyway."
  4. Anyone else seeing a lack of urgency with this team? They got their butts kicked by Green Bay, Grossman admitted he basically didn't care. Looked very much like the entire team didn't. One would think they'd be dialing it up this week, despite the extra time before the next game. You know, getting back to basics, keeping their fitness up----maybe even working on a couple new wrinkles. Instead, I'm hearing practices have been very light. Anyone else heard the same? I know Tank Johnson didn't show Friday. I know it was an excused absence and he's got alot to deal with in his life, but still----wild horses couldn't drag me away at this moment in time. Chico Rivera hasn't even been in town, instead gallavanting around the country doing interviews (hmmm....heard this story before??) while his struggling defense sits at Halas Hall twiddling their thumbs. And now Ron Turner is getting in on the act, doing interviews as his QB tries to find the energy to care. Christ, I guess they're just satisfied with being divisional champs. After all, why wouldn't they be? All you have to do in this league is win the division and the big time salary offers start rolling in. Who cares about the Super Bowl? Nobody in Chicago, apparently.

Yep. No adjustments by Michigan at halftime. No short routes, no quick drops, no screens to beat the blitz. It's over.
  6. Yeah you're right.
  7. Alright, alright. But it's still a "Bears will play good again" argument. We've been playing bad against top 10 draft ballclubs here.
  8. And Florida lost to Auburn by a field goal on the road. They win in the Swamp. What happened is what happened. Florida wins 6-3 in a terrible game that almost everyone switches off halfway through. Michigan wins today 45-10. You still have Florida as champs? Without a doubt. I think the voters would have Michigan. Extreme hypothetical of course. Not going to happen. USC might even win today.

  10. Probably won't happen, but if Michigan were by some chance to win by, say.........25 points today, and Florida squeaks by Ohio State by 1 point, I'd vote Michigan #1. Yes, they lost to OSU, but on the road. If that game was in the Big House, OSU would have lost.
  11. :?: It's listed as being in HD. Maybe the pregame stuff doesn't show up on the HD channel for whatever reason. Looks like they just "switched it on" or whatever they do. I was getting worried there for awhile. Why not have the pre-game in High Def too?
  12. You've got to be kidding me. ABC sends the high def cameras to the Capitol One bowl, but not the Rose Bowl???? WTH?
  13. I've been very impressed with the Arkansas defense today and very unimpressed with the Wisconsin offense. It's very underrated. I've seen them play a few times this year and they are quite good. Apparently not good enough. Wisconsin wins. Big 10 acquitting themselves quite nicely against the SEC today. It wasn't really the D's fault. Give up 17 points to a good team you have to expect to win, the offense couldn't move it on Wisconsin though. As far as the Big 10 dominating the SEC, it's true. Arkansas had 368 total yards to Wisconsin's 203. Arkansas moved the ball, they just couldn't score. Good point, I hadn't seen those numbers. EDIT: That still means much more blame goes to the offense than the defense. The D did its job. Wisconsin has been a good bend-but-don't-break unit this year. That Arkansas run game is cream of the crop, no question there.

  15. That's just not true. They played well offensively in the 3 previous games. They played 3 quarters of good-to-great defense in the TB and Detroit games. The only real bad game the Bears played on defense was probably the Rams game. Last night, they gave up yards, but only really gave up the opening drive TD. You want reasons the Bears will win their first playoff game? Vs. Giants- Bears are a better team, worse QB situation than the Bears, tons of injuries, mediocre defense vs. Seattle- Bears are a better team, injuries on defense, offense hasn't played together much, and hasn't run the ball that well this year, one of the worst run defenses, pass defense will be missing 3 starting DBs vs. Dallas- Bears are a better team, can't run the ball in recent weeks, Romo can't perform under pressure, defense has given up 39, 23, 28, and 42 in their last 4 games. Seriously, your argument is "Bears are a better team"?? That's weak. Sorry, but it's true. How you can look at the Tampa and Detroit games and conclude we played well is......well, I'll just say it's a mystery.
  16. Wisconsin big INT to keep Ark from scoring at the end of the first half. Badgers showing up today. Arkansas has (or HAD) the wrong gameplan. You can't just stack the line and dare Stocco to throw. He can throw, and throw fairly effectively, as the Hogs discovered.
  17. Griese is awful. Like you said, his arm strength is real piss poor. At least with Grossman, you have a 50/50 chance of him having a decent performance. I guess I'm for Grossman starting. I've tried to support the kid, but he drives me crazy. I suppose I want him to start because at least he can throw deep, and Griese really can't (lucky play to Bradley aside........playoff teams won't blow coverage like that). BTW----I saw the Favre interview after the game. Now I *know* he's seriously, seriously considering retirement. But man he can still play. I guess it will all come down to other factors off the field.
  18. I don't think it matter who starts at QB. Why would it? Griese's arm is as bad as Pennington, and he throws picks as badly as Grossman. Orton was, is, and ever shall be a college QB. I don't see how this team wins that first playoff game, and I haven't heard a single compelling argument why we will, other than if we start playing better football. Which, yeah, will obviously do it-----but it's been 7 weeks since we played well, so whatever they were doing back then? They better rediscover it, and PRONTO.
  19. Where did you read them (that could be the problem)? ChicagoBears.com I don't see how you gathered anything about Rex playing from that. Maybe you're right, but it's still not exactly a clear endorsement. Pretty clear to me. About the only thing more he could do is pin a reporter down to the ground and shout repeatedly in his ear "YES REX WILL START!! GET IT NOW?!?!?"
  20. I know. With Rex though, something like this might shake his confidence enough that even if he *does* have protection in the divisional playoff he still might be off. I'm real worried. But oh well, time to take a chill pill. It's just a game. If we blow it, we blow it. I would just like to see a good gameplan this year that is tailored to our opponent, instead of last year leaving the best WR in the league 1 on 1 against CBs who couldn't start in NFL Europe.
  21. Our New Years' resolution is to stop sucking. J/K I didn't hear it. 8-)
  22. LOL. He's getting sugery tomorrow. He's not retiring. So yeah, this is kind of ridiculous.
  23. I sadly agree 100%, and have felt that way since about the 9th or 10th week. I hope to God I'm wrong, but I have the sickening feeling in my gut I'm not. I've got tix for that game too. Oh well, I'll make it fun no matter what happens. My first playoff game ever. Nice. As pissed as I am right now, I'd still love to have those tickets. I'm moving back to Chicago at the end of January, and it would be really nice if the Bears welcomed me home with a luverly Super Bowl win. SHAPE UP, YE MUTTS, YEZ! Congrats on moving back to Chicago. I had to move away for work - and I love my new job - but I miss Chicago almost every day. I cannot wait, and thanks for the well wishes. This has been a long time coming...I keep telling myself the Cubs have been waiting to start winning again until I could be home to enjoy it. In my head it sounds awesome and true. Whew. Thank goodness. I was wondering how much longer I would have to wait for a Cubs WS 8-)
  24. Why don't we? Because the Bears have looked unbelievably good at times this year. They've also looked unbelievably awful. It's hard to say if we'll be 1 and done or not because no one knows what team and quarterback is going to show up. We haven't see those good, dominant Bears since the 2nd half of the Giants game. That was forever ago. Since then, it's been pretty spotty, even in our victories. How & why would the team from 7 weeks ago suddenly show up instead of the one that's been struggling for many weeks in a row? How many people thought Rex would be this bad after starting off so good? I mean no one expected him to keep playing like he was, but I bet everyone assumed he wouldn't play as bad as he did at times. I'll be honest, I'm trying my hardest to stay optimistic, after the 06 Cubs, and the Sun Bowl, I can't handle more disappointment. Maybe these two weeks it will finally sink in. Because this team is going to hear it, that's for sure. They don't look ready for anything. Houston could probably beat them right now.
