    I'm not referring to NSBB posters but I noticed a lot of people who called him "soft" didn't understand young pitching is more fragile then veteran pitching. Dusty didn't understand that, either.

    Again, we've been over this before. The Cubs are clobbering a team in one game, then losing the next two by a close margin. It doesn't matter if you outscore your opponent over the course of a series if you score 80% of your runs in only one of the games. Sure, if the Cubs keep the same average but spread it out over all the games, then they'll start winning more. But that means they will have to become more consistent, which they aren't right now.

    Why would the Bears swap out for the #9 when they could have swapped out for the #6 and refused? Christ, any idiot can be a sports journalist these days.

    I'd rather trade Eyre, but I think Detroit knows he blows :) After Ohman's collapse last week, Lou seemed to put him right back in there for more innings, so while it's clear Lou was angry I don't necessarily think Ohman made it into the dog house.

    I think you're right. It's a good thing for Mark he's officially shut down for the year. There won't be anything for him to worry about except rehab, not trying to come back and rescue the Cubs. Maybe that will help a little.

    He looked fine. No errors. He made the plays you would expect the SS to make. So bascially he's Eckstein. Just make the plays your supposed to make. I have no problem with that. If he can be Eckstein and hit well, then I'll take it over the dark, seething abyss that is Izturis.

    Other than Jock and Aram all our regulars hit well in that game. Looks to me like the Brewers' pitching staff had a bad day. Yeah, Sheets went down and they were forced into early relief. Not that I didn't like seeing our hitters have a good day, but it's probably not a real good game to base anything off of.

    Wow they went in and worked on all kinds of stuff. Sounded like a complete overhaul. Amazing all that work needed to be done and nobody was able to diagnose it earlier.

    I wonder if he was insisting he had no injury because he was in denial. He might have just not been able to accept what was happening. Even though I expected it, it's still just really sad. This guy was universally accepted as the next great pitcher. Now lookitt.

    Yeah, I just had a flash of how Mark must be feeling about all this. Imagine the disappointment he's going through right now. I do feel bad for the guy. This is a giant, who is now fallen.

    Tillman and Briggs are two prime examples. Both were considered reaches when we drafted them. Then there's guys like Anderson, who were just sitting around for no reason at all. Berrian was kind of like that. It's good to have a GM who doesn't flap just because everyone else is, and is capable of picking up that great value. The only flaw is the spotty 1st round performance, and I still can't really figure out why he misses so often with the big picks.

    Lou Piniella = Colossal failure as manager of the Cubs who duped everyone waxing poetic about midgets who can walk and Murton in the 2 hole. Uh oh. That sound you hear is the honeymoon ending prematurely.

    Maybe his idea of tweaks here & there falls more in line with other people's idea of major overhauls. That's hilarious.

    Anyone who has studied this team over the last several years should have seriously questioned how good they could be. It's a long season and strange things can happen. I could see the Cubs going crazy and winning the division with a .500 record. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Milwaukee will finish significantly over .500. Maybe not 25 games........say 10-15 games over. They're raping the Central right now, top to bottom.

    Well they didnt exactly go against him in game 2. Refs were giving Miami calls in game 2 to try to facilitate a comeback. It was completely obvious, and Miami knew it too -- that's why they started flopping all over the court to get calls. But they just didn't have anywhere near the steam to catch the Bulls. When we're shooting like that, seriously there's no team that can come back on us. Comebacks require stops.

    Yeah, there's really no substitute for simply having the in-depth knowledge of players when you draft. It's not a suprise that teams trying to outsource core knowledge necessary to run a draft are not among the top drafting clubs. It's like anything else in business. You outsource what you don't do well -- your non-core functions. Then you concentrate on what's really central to your business. Well, in the NFL drafting and player evaluation is always central to the business. In any sport, really. Bears have done a good job turning this around, BTW. We used to be pretty shaky on draft day; it's gotten much better under Angelo.

    I say that, then I see the CNNSI.com article praising the Bulls...:P Yeah, I heard Chuck praising the Bulls last night, which I found to be refreshing. I think he's grudgingly been giving us a little more respect lately. I mean it's obvious what's wrong with Miami, so I'm not sure why it's worth rehashing. Shaq is old and Wade's hurt. End of article. The real question is, can this Bulls team seal the deal and then challenge the Pistons? That's got to be the real story, no matter how much the NY types want to carry on with their Chicago hatred.

    Understood. I think several factors are at play here: 1) Lou & Hendry won't concede anything until at least June. 2) It's supposed to be a $100 million juggernaut. The expensive vets therefore play over the younger, cheaper guys because of the cash outlays 3) Can't trade Jones, don't want to trade Murton. That's the reason for the glut in the OF.........I think eventually Hendry's going to have to give in and trade Murton. Which means, yes, we're stuck with Jones because nobody wants him. 4) No SS. There never was a SS. And there was never a serious attempt at a SS. It's a terrible, terrible black hole right in the middle of our infield. Plus, there's really no chance at getting a passable SS unitl it will probably be too late. I guess we should just play Cedeno.
