  1. Even with the "issues" with Vince, if the Jags are main contenders the Titans have to be too. They were similar heading into the year and the Titans just beat them. I think the favorites in the AFC right now are the Colts, Steelers and Chargers. Merriman's injury hurts them, but San Diego still has fewer questions than the Jags or Titans. The biggest thing holding San Diego back is the head coach, Norv Turner. That said, I don't completely rule out the Patriots yet. That defense is still strong and, if they can bring in a decent QB, they still have Moss and Welker at receiver and Maroney in the backfield. I forgot about the Titans. #-o Maybe this will help. =D> Solid.
  2. I saw the speculation and am calling BS. The only indication that he's thinking this is coming from his mom - who I'm sure is not in the best of moods after her son was booed at home Sunday - while Titans officials and friends of Vince are saying he's shown no indication. The Titans' pbp radio guy, Mike Keith, was on the radio earlier today and was asked about this. He said he's spoken with Vince fairly often the past few days and Vince hasn't given him any indication whatsoever that he may be thinking about quitting - he even said he's been in good spirits. Keith also said the Monday Vince-hunt was overblown, saying that Vince was at a buddy's house that he often goes to for refuge from the media and spectators. Keith said they got some food and were hanging out there watching the MNF games. Keith also talked to the friend Vince was with and he didn't give any indication that Vince was in a terrible mental state. I'm sure Vince is struggling mentally right now - there are too many rumors to deny it - but I don't think it's that serious.
  3. It depends on what Payton wants to do with him. Technically Patten, Henderson, and Terrance Copper are ahead of him on the depth chart. Patten is reliable but old, Henderson is fast as lightning but drops half the balls thrown to him, and Copper is just meh. So, I'd like to think that Payton will go to Meachem. Hell, the Saints spent a first round pick on the guy, so they should at least try. I'd probably wait and see what he does (or if he is even used) in the game against the 'Skins this weekend. If he does well, then I'd scoop him up in a heartbeat, given how often Brees throws the ball. I actually drafted him late in one of my drafts - I was already stacked at receiver with Torry Holt, Santonio Holmes, Dwayne Bowe, Bernard Berrian and Javon Walker - because he was so impressive in the preseason and I felt like he could beat out those three. It's just a matter of starting him over one of Holmes, Holt or one of my running backs at the RB/WR spot.
  4. What are their current chances of making the playoffs?
  5. Sounds like it is time for Robert Meachem to step up and fill his role on the Saints. He had a pretty good preseason with 10 catches for 217 yards. Step up! Sounds like Meachem would be a good choice to start in fantasy for a while then. Do you concur?
  6. To some extent I do, but not Florida, Alabama and any team Spurrier coaches. I simply hate them too much. But UGA, UK, Vandy, LSU, Auburn, Miss St, Ole Miss, etc. I have no problem rooting for - so long as their winning doesn't hurt the Vols. You all know who I root for and I even root for BE teams to beat Syracuse, that way we can get the first pick in the HS draft. Too bad the #1 HS pick never signs with you, though. There's always a school willing to offer more money I guess. :D
  7. No and I've never really understood this. I get the strength of schedule argument, but if you really loathe a team, I can't imagine routing for them in any game. The two teams I truly loathe (Florida and Bama) I can never root for - unless it directly helps UT. Otherwise I have no problem.

  9. Titans sign Chris Simms. Vince has a sprained MCL and while the team hasn't announced anything official that I've seen, it looks like he'll be out 2-4 weeks. Kerry Collins will start Sunday.
  10. KRod destination? It seems pretty obvious to me that Minaya will go all out after him. And the Mets can actually semi-afford a $15 mil a year closer. It'd still be dumb, but not nearly as much for a near-unlimited payroll team such as the Mets.
  11. What should we be thinking about? The hot chicks on the Bud Light Fan Cam?

  14. Lilly: 2008 - 102 ERA+, 1.31 WHIP, 161:60 K:BB Career - 102 ERA+, 1.33 WHIP, 1134:497 K:BB Marquis: 2008 - 103 ERA+, 1.39 WHIP, 84:60 K:BB Career - 97 ERA+, 1.41 WHIP, 745:488 K:BB They're very similar pitchers this year (though Marquis has been mediocre throughout and Lilly was terrible early and much better after that) but for their careers, Lilly is definitely better. Not a huge difference between them, but Lilly is better.
  15. It's a mailbag, quite tame, and quite lame. I haven't read his other stuff, but this part gave me a good chuckle: :rotfl: Not too bad. If his other stuff is even more melodramatic it must be hilarious. I did enjoy that part.
  16. It's a mailbag, quite tame, and quite lame. Yeah, it wasn't quite what I expected. Not bad, some whining and a couple of references to committing suicide, but that was about it.
  17. Here is the long awaited Bill Simmons column after Brady's injury. Haven't read it yet, but I'm sure it's good stuff.
  18. Did you see the weird story about Fisher calling the cops after fearing for Vince Young's emotional well being? http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8540384/Titans-asked-for-police-help-to-find-QB-Young Yeah, I saw that. It's a very strange story - I just hope these 2-4 weeks off will help him get his head together. He's very emotional and is taking the Titan fan abuse fairly hard right now.
  19. Week 2 for the Titans should be easier than Week 1 (sorry Rocket). The Bengals were pretty unimpressive in their opening loss and I'm anxious to see what Chris Johnson can do against as porous a defense as Cincinatti's. I don't think lacking Vince is going to hurt in this one, as I don't think the Bengals will bring enough pressure to get to Kerry Collins consistently. And if they do, he has the arm to beat them deep (if the receivers can catch the ball). Titans should win this one by 10 or so.
  20. Of course I like Ditka and Golic is okay, but Greenie is awful. Plug Tirico into Greenie's spot and you might have something. Although I'm not a huge fan of Tirico, that'd be an infinitely better trio than the one we have tonight. Greenie is definitely the weak link. Maybe it's just me, but I think the three of them work together great. Greeny on his own wouldn't be that good, I don't think, but I like this trio as a team. Of course, it'd help if this were actually a game.
  21. Soccer, Raisin and the rest of the West Coasters are getting ESPN's best football broadcasting team. I really like Greenberg, Golic and Ditka.
  22. I'm not entirely sure where they're significantly better than the Titans. Both teams have excellent defenses (Vikings maybe a little better, but not much), both have great running games (AP is better than LenDale, but Chris Johnson may swing things a bit), both have mediocre receivers (save for Berrian, adv Minn) and both have huge questions at QB. Maybe I'm being biased, but if the Vikings are big time Super Bowl contenders, why aren't the Titans? The only thing I can think of is that the Vikings are in the NFC and the Titans are in the AFC. But they're very similar teams. It's because they're in the NFC. I think you're comparison is pretty good though. I'm still not understanding what Childress is seeing in Jackson. I like Jackson, but he definitely has some huge question marks. Vince is better, but they have similar questions.
  23. That's one reason, but the Vikings also have maybe the best combined O and D lines in football. And the Titans aren't that far behind in either. Vanden Bosch and Haynesworth are comparable to Jared Allen and Pat Williams while Jevon Kearse (if healthy, granted) is better than Ray Edwards. The Tony Brown/Kevin Williams comparison favors Williams. As for the offensive lines, I might take the Vikings', but not by that much. The Titans line actually allowed fewer sacks last year (30 v 38) and that's with Kerry Collins attempting 82 passes.
  24. I'm not entirely sure where they're significantly better than the Titans. 25. He may not have been a key, intricate part of the team, but to say he didn't "contribute a damn" to this team is completely wrong. He posted a 111 ERA+ with a 1.39 WHIP with a 27:6 K:BB ratio. That's not great, but it's decent enough for a long reliever.
