I think ESPN would explode if two teams from the AL East made the playoffs and neither were the Red Sox or Yankees. The Blue Jays are 7 back in the Wild Card, though. That ain't happening. I think ESPN will explode if the Red Sox and Yankees don't make the playoffs no matter where the wild card comes from. Nah, they'll just talk about the global implications of both teams missing the playoffs. And they'll discuss how they missed during the entire playoffs.

Not reading the "Angel Guzman Rehab Thread"? He's moved up to AAA and is likely to be called up in September. He'll pitch out of the bullpen when he's up. Yea, that comment was sort of a head-scratcher. Alright so I haven't read that thread. Sue me. Don't you know you're supposed to have knowledge of all things Cub, PriorPower? :wink: Alright, you got me. I am, contrary to popular belief, not perfect. :shock: This throws my whole perception of reality into question.

Not reading the "Angel Guzman Rehab Thread"? He's moved up to AAA and is likely to be called up in September. He'll pitch out of the bullpen when he's up. Yea, that comment was sort of a head-scratcher. Alright so I haven't read that thread. Sue me. Don't you know you're supposed to have knowledge of all things Cub, PriorPower? :wink:

Just an FYI, the Brewers currently have lost 5 of 9 games to the Cincinnati Reds - the same ones coached by Dusty Baker. So see, we're not the only good team to lose games to bad teams. :D BUT THEY HAD A FIGHT AND THEN THEY WERE GOOD!! Maybe somebody will punch Gaudin then, for giving up homers to Ronnie Belliard and Willie Harris. Then we'll be good too! :D

And this thread is annoying even with that ratio. God could you imagine what it would be if the ratio was reversed? There might be a suicide pact or something. that'd certainly improve the quality of future game threads to have the only two non-crazies dead and a game thread full of unbridled insanity? wait i thought the crazies were killing themselves and we're only losing two rational people. Could go either way. If the crazies don't kill themselves, the rational might have to just to escape the crazies. I'm confused, should I kill myself or not? Depends. Do you think this loss eliminated us from playoff contention?

It would be Clement, but he would get the loss. Sounds about right. Where is Matt Clement these days? I know he had a hot streak with the Red Sox in 05. Last I heard, the Cardinals tried to rehab him this year, but I think they cut ties with him. If even LaRussa and Duncan cant save him, hes done for. If LaRussa wanted to save him he would have put him in the outfield and made him the best power hitter on the team in front of Ankiel :banghead: I don't think anybody could turn Clement into a good hitter. :D His career line: .095 AVG .139 OBP .115 SLG

Why doesn't it embody the spirit of the Olympics? Is it because they are professionals and not amateurs? no, because there are clearly professionals in other sports. it's one of those hard to define things. let's put it this way: I enjoy the parts of the Olympics that involve people who have sacrificed a lot, defied the odds, etc., etc. to get to where they are. I enjoy seeing underdogs win. I enjoy the outpour of emotion from those who overcame the odds and won a medal when no one thought they could. If the U.S. wins the gold in Men's Basketball, that's fine, but it wouldn't fulfill anything I associate with the Olympics. Just out of curiosity, did you enjoy watching Michael Phelps? I did, and I realize that he was the favorite in every race. I think Phelps would have been less interesting if he had one every race by 2 lengths. The close races made it exciting. He was also attempting something unprecedented in Olympic history. I see your point. I actually haven't watched a baseball game yet. I would, though, prefer the major leaguers. That is, considering it didn't have a negative impact on the MLB season.

If they do find the girls to be underage, they should be DQ'd and everyone should move up a medal. It's one thing if the judges screwed up (a la figure skating in 2002). But the age thing is just like taking steroids, it should make somebody ineligible and therefore, they shouldn't get the medal. I'll be shocked if this is anything more than the IOC trying to make the issue go away. It's obvious their attempt to ignore it hasn't worked, what with bloggers and news agencies digging around. Therefore, I have a feeling they're going to lead an "investigation" where they check a few Chinese governement-approved documents showing the girls are 16+ and they'll announce to the world that all is good. I hope I'm wrong, but I have very little faith in the IOC. Am I wrong in that?

Honestly, I'll be absolutely floored if Guzman is even a candidate for the rotation next year - and pretty disappointed. He's shown by now that he simply won't stay healthy as a starting pitcher. He'll almost certainly be in our bullpen next year, though.

I'm hoping Hank retires. Why? He's a backup catcher...what's wrong with him in that role? Because he's ancient, isn't likely to replicate his #s from this year, and will cost too much. The bolded is the only problem I have with Blanco coming back next year. We're not going to do much better than a good defensive catcher who is moderately capable offensively. How many backup catchers are actually good offensively anyway? Not sure what his option is for next year, but that's what worries me about him.
