  1. Carson Palmer was hobbling coming off the field at halftime. Not sure what's wrong, but he was hit by Albert Haynesworth.
  2. Touchdown! Kerry Collins to Justin Gage! Titans lead 14-7 with 30 seconds left in the half. EDIT: That's after a 50 yard run by Chris Johnson.
  3. It looks like Ike is blowing through Cincinnatti right now. The wind is going crazy. The Titans haven't been overly impressive, but they're doing ok. I'm really getting sick of penalties though.
  4. I'd go with the Colts D. New Orleans has a much better offense than Minnesota. Peterson may have a big day, but the Colts will get turnovers from Jackson, I have to think. The Bucs are playing ATL. Yes, this is a very good point. For some reason, I thought Washington was Tampa Bay. Don't ask... That's a much tougher decision, I think I'd go with TB. Both defenses are likely to get some turnovers, but Peterson is more likely to have a big day than Michael Turner or anybody on the Falcons.

  6. That's the problem, from what I've seen. He seems like an idiot fan who doesn't really know that much, but still wants to win and thinks he's the smartest football guy out there.
  7. I really wish he'd step back. He was an innovater (sp) but it's past his time now. I agree. He needs a GM to handle the day to day stuff, but his ego won't allow that. Partially the system, partially the talent around Cassel. Tom Brady is definitely incredible, but the talent around him is very, very good. Cassel doesn't have to do much to have a very good game.
  8. Granted, it's still very early in the year, but these stats don't surprise me at all: Thad Lewis, 2008: 62.9 comp %, 6.8 yards/attempt, 5:0 TD:INT Thad Lewis, 2007: 55.3 comp %, 6.75 y/a, 21:10 TD:INT The difference, I think, will only get bigger as Lewis learns from Cutcliffe. If you've been able to watch the games so far, what do you think about him?
  9. Wow, Al Davis is an idiot.
  10. I really like this move. It might help Vince out to sit back and learn. It definitely helped McNair in his first couple of years, and it may help Vince to watch Kerry make different reads and what not and find out why he's doing what he's doing on the field. I really don't think it can hurt. Plus, in the same article, Fisher debunks a lot of the rumors swirling around Vince's "interesting" Monday night last week.
  11. Well, after the embarassment that was Labor Day, it was nice to pick up the first win of the season. UAB is a bad team, but they played decently yesterday. Crompton looked better, though not nearly as good as he'll have to for us to win 9-10 games this year. He was a little high on a few throws still and for some reason, still can't find Brandon Warren when our best receiver is open. The running game should be ridiculously good this year. With Arian Foster, Montario Hardesty and Lennon Creer running well, we should be sick on the ground. The defensive scheme was almost perfect to defend the spread option. Obviously, Florida is a whole heck of a lot more talented than UAB could ever dream of, but I liked the scheme the defense used and with the great athletes we have on defense, I think we'll keep Florida from scoring a ton. Not much can be taken from playing UAB, but hopefully the game experience will be good for Crompton and Clawson in preparation for Saturday.
  12. ESPN fantasy is treating this week as the bye week for Houston and Baltimore. I'd assume the rest are as well.
  13. yeah, that is a real bad move. young wasn't a top 3 pick in the draft because of his arm, nor was he an elite college quarterback for that reason. he did throw very well his junior year, but he also ran for more than 1000 yards in both his soph and junior years. that's pushing 100 YPG on the ground, just crazy for a qb. against michigan and usc in the rose bowl, he ran for 392 yards and 7 touchdowns. i picked texas to beat usc because young just seemed to have this quality where he could put a team on his back when they were in trouble and singlehandedly win the game, whether it be with his arm or his legs. i loved him in college and i thought (and still think) that he will be a good nfl quarterback. but if he's gonna end up as a pocket passer, you have to let him take the donovan mcnabb route to get there - run a lot early in his career, then cut back later. donovan was not much better than average in the passing game, but he added a real threat with his ability to scramble. he's improved as a passer now and runs pretty sparingly. young can't do everything he did at texas, but they can still run some designed shotgun draws and let him get out of the pocket. he's still faster and a better athlete than most of the guys on the other side of the ball. I agree 100% with this entire post. For some reason, Vince is convincing himself he needs to run less and become a pocket passer. Fisher and Heimerdinger are actually trying to get him to use his speed more often because they understand the terrific weapon Vince running can be. The comparison to McNabb was perfect and Steve McNair took the same route. He was a scrambling QB until he developed into a good passing quarterback later in his career. From then on, he only scrambled when he had to but by then he was a good passer.
  14. I actually don't like that Vince is trying to be a pocket passer. That's not his best asset. As for speed of the throws, Brett Favre chucks bullets at his receivers and they can catch. None of the Titans' receivers were big-time playmakers before coming to Tennessee. Justin Gage has actually been more productive since Vince has been throwing the ball to him. It's simply that the receivers aren't very good. People need to lay off trying to make Vince (or any mobile QB) a pocket passer - he simply won't be good that way. Steve McNair took his time in turning into a pocket passer and things turned out very well. I'll be very pleased if Vince follows the same route (and statistically, Vince is on the same route right now).
  15. And since Vick left they've had Joey Harrington, D.J. Shockley and Chris Redman throwing to them. Matt Ryan, keep in mind, has only been the QB for one game. I think it was just more of a breakout year for White more than anything else.
  16. :-)) LenDale White is almost as big (240 lbs) as your starting DTs.
  17. That's a long text. No kidding. Personally, I hate texting.
  18. Just for anybody still curious, here's more evidence that the Vince-hunt Monday night was exaggerated - from his college head coach.
  19. What are their current chances of making the playoffs? Before tonight it was 73.2%. September 1st it was 94.6%. Its going to go up significantly (like 7%) after tonight though with them winning and the Cards and Phils losing. Thanks nilo.
  20. Yeah, Kerry has definitely gotten things together since he's been the backup in Tennessee. I didn't like it when we signed him (he was nothing like Vince and didn't have a good record of being stable), but he's been one of the better backups in the league for us and apparently has had a big impact on Vince both on the field and off it. I compare his signing very favorably to Fisher bringing in Neil O'Donnell to back up McNair in the 90s. If the starter goes down, we're not up a creek and the backup is more than willing to aid the progression of the young starter.
  21. That's something a lot of people ignore - Vince has never had a good (or even decent) crop of receivers. Of course a QBs numbers will be mediocre if he has nobody to throw the football to. Scaife has been his best option since he came into the league, that's not good. As I said earlier in either this thread or the Week 1 thread, Vince's numbers compare favorably to Steve McNair's after two seasons starting. And McNair had the luxury of sitting on the bench for two seasons that Vince never did. When you receivers that can't separate you have problems. How well does Collins do with them? The receivers can separate decently well - they just have problems catching the ball when they do. Kerry makes better throws than Vince, so he tends to do a little better. Still, though, he has to rely on the short dumpoffs and running game to have any success. Given his better accuracy, though, he'll tend to hit one or two more deep balls than Vince will. Again, that's when the receivers actually catch the ball, though. Last year in six games played, Kerry had a 61% comp %, 6.5 yards per attempt and no TDs or picks (82 attempts). Vince had a 62.3% and 6.7 y/a with a 9:17 TD:INT (382 attempts). Ah, the drops. I would imagine that Vice throws the ball a heck of a lot harder than Kerry does and imo that makes a bad receiver even worse, unless it gets caught in his facemask. I'm actually not sure on the speed of the QBs passes, but I'd have to assume you're right. Kerry might have a stronger arm than Vince, though. The biggest difference between the two is that Kerry throws a more accurate ball. Vince is generally a little high, or a little behind, etc. whereas Kerry is usually fairly spot on with his throws. The receivers still find ways to drop his passes too, though. Vince had at least three to four well-thrown balls against Jacksonville dropped by the receivers. And it's like that every game for him. It's one reason I didn't like the Chris Johnson pick at the time - I knew he was a great player, but we needed somebody who could catch the ball consistently. Chris runs lots of plays from the RB position.

  23. I saw the speculation and am calling BS. The only indication that he's thinking this is coming from his mom - who I'm sure is not in the best of moods after her son was booed at home Sunday - while Titans officials and friends of Vince are saying he's shown no indication. The Titans' pbp radio guy, Mike Keith, was on the radio earlier today and was asked about this. He said he's spoken with Vince fairly often the past few days and Vince hasn't given him any indication whatsoever that he may be thinking about quitting - he even said he's been in good spirits. Keith also said the Monday Vince-hunt was overblown, saying that Vince was at a buddy's house that he often goes to for refuge from the media and spectators. Keith said they got some food and were hanging out there watching the MNF games. Keith also talked to the friend Vince was with and he didn't give any indication that Vince was in a terrible mental state. I'm sure Vince is struggling mentally right now - there are too many rumors to deny it - but I don't think it's that serious. Rex Grossman is unimpressed. She's the only one who's saying this stuff about Vince. He and everyone else close to him are saying the retirement talk is silly. I think it's a mother's overreaction to her son's struggles.
  24. That's normal ridiculousness from Bayless. I like Vince's potential, but no way he's in the same ballpark as Eli Manning this season.
