  1. Dick Stockton said that Edmonds told Tom Verducci he was fine. It was precautionary. Are you going to trust anything Stockton says? He could have meant Verducci said Edmonds was dead, but fine came out. With Dick, we never know.
  2. Don't forget the Ramirez HR is in the bottom of the ninth with two outs and an 0-2 count. And after Ramirez hit foul balls that were dropped by Lee, Aramis, Kosuke and Soriano. And Kuroda finished off a perfect game in the top half of the inning.
  3. I was a little dumbfounded when he said that. uh why? theriot....fontenot...what was the LSU QB's name..Perllioux? those are typical Nawlins names There are certainly a large number of players who go there with french-sounding names, but that's not the only place they go. There are also players with French-sounding names who go to other colleges and there are players at LSU who don't have French-sounding names. It's not one of the dumbest things he said, but it stuck out to me.
  4. It's a little bit like NFL Network bringing whichever Gumbel it was in the first season of their football games. He was terrible and really had no business being back in the booth. The difference, though, is that Gumbel was at least a football announcer for a few years. I'm not sure Stockton ever did a baseball game before last season. he used to broadcast red sox games, i believe it was back in the '70's though. Hm, the similarities between him and the bad Gumbel grow even more.

  7. It would suck, but it wouldn't make the entire season a waste. That's my viewpoint, at least.
  8. Yes, this is the first time I'm a nervous wreck for the playoffs. Years past I was just happy to be there... Me too...I was no where near this nervous. I wasn't even nervous like this for the Super Bowl. I think the last time I was this nervous was before Game 7 of the 2003 NLCS. I wasn't even nervous before the game 7 of the 2003 NLCS. I knew we were toast. I thought we still had a chance when Woody hit the home run, but things quickly dissolved. We were up 5-3 I believe at one point. Alou hit a HR. Yeah, I thought Wood's homer was a stroke of destiny and it provided me hope - sadly I was incorrect.

  10. just because he's not on the NLDS roster doesn't necessarily mean he won't be on the NLCS or WS roster Ahh, didn't know you could change rosters in between series, I thought it was one set lineup for the entire postseason. I'm pretty certain it's fixed rosters for each series. Meaning, whatever the roster is for the NLDS is set, but it can be changed between the NLDS and NLCS and World Series. Only exception is injured players can be replaced within a series. Correct. I should have mentioned that.
  11. Or Fred, that guy was in his 6th grade class photo. Memory gets bad with age, though.
  12. Your best bet is going to be OMC, I'd say.

  14. he's also a very sad human being. i know that he never minced words when he was alive, but now that he's dead, he sure doesn't care what comes out of his mouth or who it affects. his corpse has no class at all and i guess has no reason to play politics. however, he's completely ruined his fairly important legacy in the past 15 or so years. lane kiffin isn't exactly without connections in the national football league. Show me a zombie who does have class. Bet you can't do that.
  15. I went with yes as well. My reasoning is much the same as NCCubfan's. It's hard to see a team do as well as the Cubs did in the regular season and then have their season judged on an 11 game stretch (or less). I'm sure if you went through game-by-game this season you would find stretches of good baseball and bad baseball for 11 games. That said, this team is too talented to not win it all this year or next so it would be a major dissappointment if they don't do it by the end of next year.
  16. This is meaningless to Al Davis. Are you under some strange impression that Al Davis uses logic? Come on Vanilla Ice, I expected more out of you than this. I knew that he wasn't going to be given a chance and Davis would do whatever he wanted (usually the wrong thing). But, I was curious as to whether he was a good coach. From what I can tell he is. Al Davis basically wants a yes-man who will do exactly what he wants. Lane Kiffin isn't this type of man, so he go the boot. For the talent he had in Oakland, though, I thought Kiffin did a good job. I'm sure soccer10k can expound on the point more, but I would like to see Kiffin get another NFL shot. I think he'd have success. Kiffin absolutely deserves another head coaching gig. Like you said, with the (lack of) talent Kiffin had, he did a fine job. I mean, last year he was stuck with Culpepper and Josh McCown at QB along with a rookie who missed training camp in Russell. Not to mention that their receivers were Jerry Porter and Ronald Curry. This year it's Javon Walker, Curry, Ashlie Lelie (who was cut by the 49ers during training camp) and Johnnie Lee Higgins. That's to go along with a rookie quarterback. None of this was Kiffin's fault and there's no way any other owner in football fires him at this point. I really hate Al Davis. Jury's still out on Tony Sparano, but I really wish Al had done this at the end of last year so the Dolphins could've taken a shot at him. I read that as Tony Soprano. Many do.

  18. I'm eating similar crow with the Titans' first rounder, Chris Johnson. I still think a receiver would have been a better pick, but Johnson is turning out to be more of a playmaker than I expected. I thought he'd be good, but the kid is one of the faster players in the NFL and has sick agility too.
  19. I don't know. He was given a year with a horrible insane mess to clean up, then Davis started going public with his dislike of him. Sure sounds to me like the boss didn't give his employee much of a chance to succeed. The ESPN article said the two started having disagreements on whether to fire DC Rob Ryan after the 07 season. Kiffin wanted him gone, but Davis didn't. Davis, from what I heard, also wasn't happy that Kiffin didn't throw the ball downfield more often.

  21. I would not be suprised if Al Davis fired Kiffen on Monday because he thought they lost over the weekend. Kiffin didn't make it that far, apparently. ESPN is reporting that Al Davis has finally made the move - Lane Kiffin has been fired. Now the only question is one that Soul just asked and I have no idea on, who will take that job now? The story does say that offensive line coach Tom Cable is currently the leading candidate, while Greg Knapp and Paul Hackett are also possibilites. :rotfl: I fully understand why soccer hates Al Davis.
  22. The Titans have a chance to prove this week that they are the best team in the AFC. A sound beating to the Ravens should be enough to ensure Tennessee's stature over the Bills and put the Titans into the driver's seat of a playoff bid. Nothing I saw from the Ravens last night made me fear them against the Titans, as Flacco looked good but not great and the running game isn't exactly awe-inspiring. The Titans, who weren't awesome Sunday either, have looked as good as could be expected to this point and even had Trent Dilfer (Baltimore's Super Bowl QB) comparing them to the 2000 Raven defense (perhaps the best of all time). Plenty of grains of salt on that one, but I found it interesting. All that said, the Titan D has a good, but not great, day against the Ravens and the offense is above average - leading to a 27-14 Tennessee win to go 5-0.
  23. Doesn't he do tennis some? Or am I thinking of only Dick Enberg? The Dicks are confusing me...
