This is meaningless to Al Davis. Are you under some strange impression that Al Davis uses logic? Come on Vanilla Ice, I expected more out of you than this. I knew that he wasn't going to be given a chance and Davis would do whatever he wanted (usually the wrong thing). But, I was curious as to whether he was a good coach. From what I can tell he is. Al Davis basically wants a yes-man who will do exactly what he wants. Lane Kiffin isn't this type of man, so he go the boot. For the talent he had in Oakland, though, I thought Kiffin did a good job. I'm sure soccer10k can expound on the point more, but I would like to see Kiffin get another NFL shot. I think he'd have success. Kiffin absolutely deserves another head coaching gig. Like you said, with the (lack of) talent Kiffin had, he did a fine job. I mean, last year he was stuck with Culpepper and Josh McCown at QB along with a rookie who missed training camp in Russell. Not to mention that their receivers were Jerry Porter and Ronald Curry. This year it's Javon Walker, Curry, Ashlie Lelie (who was cut by the 49ers during training camp) and Johnnie Lee Higgins. That's to go along with a rookie quarterback. None of this was Kiffin's fault and there's no way any other owner in football fires him at this point. I really hate Al Davis. Jury's still out on Tony Sparano, but I really wish Al had done this at the end of last year so the Dolphins could've taken a shot at him. I read that as Tony Soprano. Many do.
