  1. Packers signed Aaron Rodgers to an extension through 2014. Maybe he'll be distracted with all this money and won't play well Sunday.
  2. I do like the sound of this. Would he be the most tatted out manager ever? Until Josh Hamilton decides to start managing. WESHOULDAKEPTHIMASMANAGER Yea, since Hendry the idiot traded him away when we clearly had full rights to him, I doubt he'll want to come back as manager. Stupid Hendry, ruining the Cubs. (Sarcasm, never fear)

  4. He had great minor league numbers (a career .833 minor league OPS and his final two seasons were 1.115 and 1.074) and put up a 125 OPS+ at the age of 23. He's still just 25 and is very cheap. He'd also likely see his numbers improve greatly leaving the vast park in Florida and settling in at Wrigley (likewise, his road numbers have been much, much better than his home numbers). And yes, we'd be able to bring him in and still fill other needs with more pricey guys (potentially).
  5. 125 ERA+ in 2007 134 ERA + in 2006 224 ERA+ in 2005 He was injured (I believe) last year, but he's only 27 and has a career 117:292 BB:K ratio. I'd definitely be interested for a moderate deal.
  6. I'm not much for low blows - even against Brewer fans. :D This should be a very competitive game and this is the best mix of talent and strong play the Titans have faced this year. It'll be really interesting to see if the Packers take the Colts gameplan (load 8-9 in the box to stop the run and make Kerry Collins beat them) or if they'll view that plan as having not worked. Either way, the home fans ought to be going crazy for the game and that should definitely help us.
  7. That's why I thought it was strange that Pryor went to OSU. $$$ Thought about that, but it seems like Michigan could offer him just as much as OSU could. I don't really know any reason, I just like to make fun of OSU whenever possible. If I had to pick a reason it would be because of OSU's basketball team too, though I haven't heard of anything about him trying to play as well. Sad thing is, before David Cutcliffe went to Duke, Tennessee was toward the top - if not at the top - of his list. He said he really wanted to play for Cutcliffe because of the proven track record of getting guys (especially Peyton and Eli) to the NFL. Then Cut went to Duke. :(

  10. Just out of curiosity, how do you figure Northwestern, Minnesota and Iowa are "clearly" better than Ole Miss? They very well may be better, but I'm just curious how you come to the "clearly" idea. The same way he figured Purdue and UM were clearly worse. Most any indicator will tell you that Purdue and UM are worse than Ole Miss. Scarily enough, Sagarin has UM as the worst team in the Big Ten, behind Indiana. Therein lies my problem with Sagarin. I'm a UM hater like all other good people in this world, but they'd slaughter IU. I disagree. It'd be a close, ugly game between two really bad teams.

If the crazed UM fans give RichRod time, that won't be the case for long. But it's nice to see while it lasts. :D

  13. Just out of curiosity, how do you figure Northwestern, Minnesota and Iowa are "clearly" better than Ole Miss? They very well may be better, but I'm just curious how you come to the "clearly" idea. I'm looking statistically, comparing the computer rankings I know about. Minnesota, Northwestern and Iowa are in the 15-25 range in general on all of them (NW being the lowest at 30 in the Sagarin predictor). Illinois, Ole Miss and Wisconsin are in the 35-50 range in general on all of them (Illinois being the highest at 29 in the Sagarin predictor). It fluctuates a lot week to week, due to the necessarily low sample size of 7 to 9 games for everyone, but right now there's a clear difference. Being an Illinois fan, I would like to think they are a better team than Minnesota or Northwestern, but that hasn't been the case for the great majority of the year (aside from 3 quarters at Michigan and the Indiana clinic). I liken Illinois and Wisconsin as the most similar Big Ten teams to Ole Miss. Sure, they're capable of beating good teams, but for the great majority of the year, they haven't shown that capability. Ok, I figured you were looking at computer rankings and I hadn't done that. A quick perusal of their schedules and who they've beaten/lost to didn't give me a clear picture, so I figured I'd ask.

  15. I'm voting McCain tomorrow (yeah I know, big secret :D ).
  16. Far too fragile. He's 100% strictly a DH now and played 20 games in the outfield last season. He hasn't played in 100 games in the outfield since 2004.
  17. Why don't you want Johnson back? He'll be 32 and because he's roughly 1/3 of a useful player. Pie plays better defense so if you want a defensive replacement use Pie. A team like the Cubs should only platoon if they have to. They should not plan on a platoon before the season starts. It's is a waste of both roster space and money. I don't understand many people on NSBB who talk about platoons like they are a good thing. But that's just me. I have no problem if they are signing him up for a 4th OF position. But if we know Fukudome can't hit lefties (which he couldn't last year) then it makes sense to bring in Reed as a platoon guy. You don't want to build for platoons, but if you currently have a player who needs to be in one, then it makes sense to have one. I know. It's just one of my many irrational beliefs. I know it's not right, but if Fuku cannot hit lefties he shouldn't be starting, especially in the NL Central. You do have a lot of irrational beliefs.

  19. I'm almost certainly reading too much into this or just flat out dreaming, but could this sound like Hermida? You need better dreams. I'd be very happy with that dream becoming reality. Hermida would give us good to very good, cheap production in right field and also give us the ability to still go after a Furcal/good SS or a very good starting pitcher. Plus, if the Marlins are as sour on him as it sounds, he wouldn't cost much from our depleted farm system.
  20. Fisher has actually talked about working Vince into some packages. Basically they'd make a Vince Young set of plays where he gets some reps at receiver, quarterback, running back, etc.
  21. The wrong coach got fired in San Diego yet again. Ted Cottrell was fired yesterday and a name familiar to many on here was promoted from linebackers coach - Ron Rivera is the new defensive coordinator for the Chargers.
  22. You best stay out of the game thread in 2 weeks! I've been wondering how I should handle that. :-)) You can have your way with the Bears but we have to give you your 1st loss of the year on Sunday. I'm looking forward to it. Should be a real good game, especially with our walking wounded getting to heal up over the bye week. It definitely ought to be a good game. By the way, how's Justin Harrell doing up there? He's from Tennessee and I've been curious if he's getting playing time or not. He was on the PUP list for the first 6 games of the year, but he's been in practice the last full week and I think he's expected to play this week. Good news because we need the depth at DT, especially if Jolly gets suspended for his offseason excursions. Harrell was hurt last year too, but when he was healthy he was solid. Nothing spectacular, but he was pretty good against the run. We're going to need that if we want to beat your guys. Thanks. Harrell was a good DT at Tennessee and I was hoping he'd make the transition to the NFL well. Hopefully he can stay healthy, but maybe not until next week.
