  1. That's pretty awesome.
  2. I definitely agree that 2014 was better depth-wise, but I like a lot of the guys available this year around as much as the guys in the 2012 and 2011 classes. I was just pointing out that there are high upside guys in this draft, not really saying that this is a deeper class than previous years.
  3. From everything I've heard, there's no real concern over that. I'd say it'll be one of those things that get overanalyzed, detractors use it to add concern, supporters will ignore and ultimately it'll mean nothing. Didn't show any signs whatsoever of issues yesterday.
  4. Ah, I see. While I agree the dropoff is considerable after the top 2, I don't think the problem is lack of ceiling. Guys like Petty, Sims, Grayson, Hundley, Bridge and maybe even Halliday are high upside guys, they just have all kinds of other question marks.
  5. Don't worry, you probably won't need to be a Titans fan. I think management is sold on Mettenberger to the point that they won't bring in anybody who seriously challenges him.
  6. On paper, maybe, but this draft looks like one where five years from now, the most successful QB will be some 3rd or 4th rounder no one is talking about right now Based on? Just a hunch. I feel like Winston/Mariota will flame out while some lower round guy could step up I think there's merit to that. I think Mariota's flameout chances are smaller than you seem to be implying, but they are there and there are some later round guys I'm intrigued by (Sims and Petty for instance).
  7. I just don't see the dropoff from Winston to Mariota. I agree there is a dropoff in certainty after the two of them, but what is the real difference between Winston and Mariota? Both measured in at basically the same height/weight (6'3, 233 for Winston vs 6'3, 221 for Mariota) and both were highly successful college QBs. Winston worked in more of a pro-style system than Mariota and is a bit more polished, but all signs indicate that Mariota is smart and a very hard worker who will put in the effort to get acclimated. If we were talking about a guy with clear accuracy issues or questionable arm strength I could understand the perceived gap between the two, but Mariota has NFL skills. Should there be a gap between the two? Yes, but it shouldn't be very large. Winston has humongous off the field questions and Mariota has significant acclimation questions. To me, they're much closer than most experts seem to think.
  8. Fantastic recruiting day for Tennessee. No major defections from the class and we picked up both Richmond and Boulware. Picking up 3 QBs is huge with Nathan Peterman transferring and I think Sheriron Jones might end up being the best fit of the three. If we could have added anything, I would have liked 1 more running back. After really negative about Butch Jones, I'm definitely convinced of his recruiting skills. He's done a great job recruiting since coming in and is taking elite players away from some of the best programs. I still have real questions about his coaching staff's ability (especially if we hire Mike Debord as OC) and whether or not they can develop the talent, but you've got to have the talent first and Butch is definitely doing that.
  9. I can't buy that. If the run is stuffed, Pats are calling a timeout there. If they were going to call a timeout there, they would have done it after first down. How does it benefit the Pats to not call a timeout after first down, but then to call one after second down when the only thing that changed was that the Seahawks had 1 less play to score?
  10. Y'all took Kendall Bussey from Tennessee. That's a solid get for A&M, but Richmond eases most of that pain.
  11. Wow, that's really crazy. I never gave much credence to the idea that we'd be able to flip Richmond, but it sure looks like it may be happening. I'll feel better once somebody with legit connections is reporting on the Tennessee side, though. Nothing from any of the UT guys. It's very legit. One of the Rivals writers for RebelGrove.com has a little brother that is best friends with Richmond. He wrote: Also, perhaps most telling: Freeze doesn't follow him on twitter anymore. Tennessee and Jones are pulling out all the stops in recruiting these past few years. He needs to start winning some more games in that ishtty division though. Butch has exceeded my wildest dreams in recruiting. Even Phil Fulmer couldn't get back to back top 5 recruiting classes and Butch is about to. You're right tho - none of it matters if we can't develop the talent and win on the field.
  12. It's likely he scores, but there's also a significant chance he doesn't. And if he doesnt, you blew your chance to be able to play matchups on 3rd down. Again, I'm not saying the best call there wasn't a run. I'm just saying throwing the ball was perfectly defensible.
  13. They could have run whatever they wanted but they decided to let 40 seconds run off the clock after Lynch took the ball down to the 1 because they didn't want to leave New England too much time. Instead, they tried to get cute. You're losing the game. Get the touchdown and worry about the details later. If your defense can't prevent New England from scoring in 40 seconds, oh well. But they backed themselves into a corner by wasting all that time. And they also wouldn't have had to worry about time had they actually been able to get a play off earlier in the drive (they called a timeout after an incomplete pass). I have no disagreement with any of that, but it doesn't change the situation they were actually in. Had things played out differently, running the ball might've been the unquestioned best move. But in the situation they were in, throwing the ball wasn't a bad call.
  14. Wow, that's really crazy. I never gave much credence to the idea that we'd be able to flip Richmond, but it sure looks like it may be happening. I'll feel better once somebody with legit connections is reporting on the Tennessee side, though. Nothing from any of the UT guys.
  15. I'm with both of you. Was it the optimal call? That's debatable. Would a run there have been a bad call? Not at all. The Seahawks had 1 run play they could call and that's it. That play was not the final play of the game barring a score or turnover and they had to take that into account. If you run it on 2nd down, not only are you running into the teeth of the defense, but you're taking away any matchup advantage you might get on potential 3rd and 4th downs. You also have to consider that it took a less than stellar throw from Wilson, a less than stellar effort by Lockette to try to catch it and a great play by Butler to make the pick. I have no problem whatsoever with the idea that they should have run the ball there. However, there's a perfectly legitimate argument as to why the pass was a good play call and, certainly, the hyperbolic claims that it was the "worst play call of all time" is just silly.
  16. 28-16 Pats Close early, New England pulls away in the second half.
  17. I never thought he'd be great, but I expected kinda league average. Not a complete flameout. A lot of Titans fans pulled for him because he's a good kid and he's not Vince Young.
  18. He showed flashes, but no he's never been very good. Scouts love him, though, because of a big arm and very good athleticism. Just terribly inaccurate.
  19. Yeah, the local beat writers thought very highly of him around here. He was part of a pretty poor staff under Munchak, though - may mean nothing, but it's worth noting.
  20. What whole thing about Mettenberger? He wasn't on the team when Loggains was here.
  21. If the Bears wouldn't trade Cutler for the #2 pick in the draft, they're kind of crazy and I like Cutler.
  22. I'm excusing him for Hoyer and Manziel and mostly excusing him for Locker. Not entirely on Locker, though.
  23. He does have legit NFL talent, though, so you'd think there would have been some sign of improvement there. Locker's the more concerning one for sure, though. He has major warts and will never be more than an average NFL QB, but he's not untalented and he's a good kid and a hard worker, so you know he's been trying (unlike Manziel).
  24. Well there's your problem. This is a good point. Good? No. Literally anyone can tell you? Yes. Not making fun of CTCF. It's just not a hard thing to realize Dew. Come on bro! It wasn't something I didn't realize prior to that, just something I hadn't pointed out and I was giving him credit for doing so. None of them showing much of any progression under Loggains is still a tiny bit worth pointing out, though, since both Locker and Manziel have some elements of NFL talent.
  25. Well there's your problem. This is a good point.
