  1. I like it, but I also liked the vuvuzelas in the World Cup, so I'm clearly strange.
  2. Darius Reynaud had 2 punt returns for TDs, Zach Brown had a pick six, and I don't remember what the other TD was. The Jags were laughably bad in that game (and the Titans weren't very good either). That game was fun, but the outcome sucked since Tennessee is likely out of the top 10 now.
  3. Shouldn't the personal fouls have offset and the pass interference stand? That seems to be the more logical way to do it.
  4. The future is here for the Raiders. Terrelle Pryor will start for Oakland Sunday
  5. I'd still be strongly in favor of Bourn if I felt more comfortable about his chances of staying at the level he's been at - especially since we've had such strong drafts recently.
  6. I'm hardly in love with Bourn as the answer in CF, but even with my rather lukewarm view toward him, I'm not at all concerned with giving up a 2nd round pick for him. If it were a first rounder, that'd be a different issue, but draft picks in MLB are such a crapshoot that if you can guarantee yourself even the average/above average production that Bourn will give you, it's well worth giving up a second round pick. It's the money vs likelihood of decline that scares me about Bourn.
  7. His development was stunted a bit by an injury that knocked him out for several games, but yeah, he's about where I expected him to be - which isn't good. I'm actually pretty happy about the game today. We kept from losing draft positioning and with as awful as we looked, Munchak has to be that much closer to being fired. I hate to see us lose, but this is good for the organization overall I think. i thought munchak WAS fired. Not that I've heard. Bud is pissed, but said he'll wait to evaluate the organization until he meets with them after Sunday's game.
  8. I kept arguing that Fisher was undervalued while at Tennessee and simply citing a .500ish career record with the Titans didn't tell the whole story. Now that's being confirmed as the Titans struggle and Fisher turns the Rams around.
  9. Bud Adams is meeting with Munchak, Team President Mike Reinfeldt, and GM Ruston Webster after Sunday's game. They could talk Bud into giving them one more year, but it sounds like a massive housecleaning could be coming in Nashville. And I wouldn't mind it at all. A better occurrence would be for Bud to quit getting so involved in micromanaging the organization. He should hire a team president, let the president hire a GM and the GM hire a head coach. And Bud should definitely stop telling the coaches who to pick - he's getting as bad as Jerry Jones is and Al Davis was.
  10. That was my point when bringing up how much offenses are spreading out. I guess my question was whether or not the spread offense coming into the NFL has negated some of the negative of a shorter QB - especially those who can scramble.
  11. Should it be a tool used? Sure. Should it be the deciding factor that causes 1st round talent like Wilson and others to drop multiple rounds? I don't think so. I'm not advocating ignoring that one QB is 6'5 and another is 5'9, but if the 5'9 QB is better in pretty much every other facet, I don't think the height should be a crippling factor anymore. I'm not necessarily advocating taking a scrambling QB over a pocket passer. Obviously, you take the QB you think will be the better player in the long term. I'm just wondering if, as offenses spread out more and QBs roll out more often (not scramble around and gain yardage running, just roll outside the pocket), size isn't quite the factor it once was. It used to be when teams ran mostly out of the I-form and singleback with only limited shotgun and QBs largely stood in the pocket and didn't look to move around, having a 6'4-6'6 QB was critical. Now, however, we're seeing offenses spread out more, QBs get outside the pocket more, and we're seeing guys like Wilson and Brees have a ton of success.
  12. Should QB size really be that big a deal anymore? I know it is among scouts, but with the increase in spread offenses and mobile QBs, you're not seeing quarterbacks just drop straight back and try to look over linemen anymore. Now they're scrambling out, moving around and getting out from behind the linemen. At that point, size is pretty irrelevant as long as you can get enough force behind your throws. By the way, I'm not questioning you or anything, it's more that your question caused me to have this thought.

  14. Oh, I definitely agree the losses were huge and we're going to regress huge offensively. I was just noting that there still is a good amount of talent on the offense (Tiny Richardson was our best lineman last year and was only a sophomore), so it may not suck quite as much as one would think when losing the elite offensive talent we are. On Dooley, 99% of UT fans would agree with you, but I think he did the job he needed to do. He was never going to be a coach who won a lot of games here, he was simply a stabilizer meant to provide stability and add SEC talent to a program that had sanctions-level talent when he took over. Obviously the W/L was disastrous, but this is now a team with a solid amount of SEC talent and despite its record, isn't that far from being really good. That was my biggest problem with the Butch hire - from all indications he's just a better version of Dooley and not the type of coach who can take us to the next level.
  15. http://mobile.boston.com/art/40/sports/football/patriots/extra_points/2012/12/will_mcdaniels?single=1 Please take Saban out of the SEC Cleveland. Honestly, I think a Lombardi/Saban duo could be really good. Saban and his previous GM weren't on the same page in player acquisitions, but he and Lombardi would be (both Belichick disciples who worked together previously in Cleveland, I believe).
  16. Fans are such idiots sometimes. The vast majority of Tennessee fans opinions that I've heard centered around hope that Bray/CP/Hunter would declare (citing bad attitudes with all three - and the ever-logical "we've got a new coach so it's time to get some new faces on the field). That said, while our offense is going to suck, it has a chance to not suck as much as most people think. Nathan Peterman is a good fit for Butch's offense (Butch recruited him hard to Cincinnati) and with Ja'Waun James and Zac Fulton both returning, we'll have all but one starter from one of the best OLs in the nation returning. Marlin Lane and Raijon Neal are also solid RBs and there's still a real chance that we get Derrick Green, one of the better RB recruits in the nation. Dooley also did a good job of adding WR/TE talent the past couple years with guys like Pig Howard, Jason Croom, Brendan Downs, Vincent Dallas, Drae Bowles. It's going to be a young offense, but it does have some upside if Butch and his staff can make it work.
  17. Man, that win over the Jets sucked. Now there's a good chance we finish 6-10 and out of the top 10. Prior to the Jets game I was having hopes of the Titans in the top 5.
  18. As disappointed as I am/was at the Butch Jones hiring, I wanted him more than Gary Andersen. That said, Tennessee could have and should have kept their sights higher than either.
  19. If it's used as a tiebreaker of sorts, that's fine. And if they simply feel more comfortable with Bourn than Upton, I won't be angry. With the information I have, however, I'd prefer Upton.
  20. That's entirely possible. It's part of why I'm just kind of whining rather than being really pissed off. It's just kind of odd to me since Upton seems like much more a "Theo type of player" than Bourn. My guess is the difference in makeup possibly? Bourn is widely viewed as a plus makeup type, while Upton is iffy. I really hope we're not making personnel decisions based on makeup and similar intangibles (with the exception of the extremes).

  22. I don't really want it to become a major deal either, just looking back and wishing we had made a serious effort to get Upton, who I thought was the ideal guy to grab this offseason. Like I said, Bourn would be good and is still very realistic this offseason, but Upton would've been better. I don't want to look like I'm just complaining though - I really like the Edwin signing and it really encourages me about the plan going forward. I just don't know that it's enough for the celebratory dances we're doing. I still have complete faith in what the Theo regime will ultimately put forth, however.
  23. Jackson Wei-Yin Chen Cespedes (make a harder push for him) Aramis All got reasonable contracts and all would have made this year's team that much better (though we've obviously corrected the Jackson thing this year).
  24. As one who has been frustrated by the lack of ML talent infusion the past year+, I'm happy about this signing. It's most definitely a step in the right direction, but that's all it is. Jackson's a nice pitcher and a guy I've been in favor of targeting (after Anibal) since I realized other teams didn't overvalue him a year ago. I will take a moment, however, to whine about not getting BJ Upton. I'd have much rather they get Edwin/Upton than the theoretical Edwin/Anibal idea. Bourn would be a nice addition, but Upton's a couple years younger and a little more patient than Bourn. Upton also has a history of being more valuable offensively than Bourn, though they've had similar value of late. Nonetheless, this is exactly the type of signing I've been saying they should make since a year ago - a quality player who isn't massively expensive, but will bring us a step closer to being good and make it easier going forward to become dominant.
  25. Have there been serious reports that the front office has looked into trading Starlin or have they just been Kaplan and Rogers blowing smoke? I could be forgetting, but I don't recall any serious smoke concerning a Starlin trade. Just the typical"they'll listen on anyone" stuff. I think the only time his name has been attached to a rumor was with Justin Upton and it was purely speculative. That's what I was thinking. I think I remember Kaplan or Rogers or somebody writing columns saying they should either trade or, at least, shop Starlin, but I don't recall anything actually sourced.
