  1. Dave Hart is announcing at 2:30 today that he's happy with Tennessee being nationally irrelevant for 3-5 more years.
  2. Yeah - Dooley was the same way when he was here. It does make me wonder how Kirby would do as the "face" of the program.
  3. I'd probably take Te'o over Butch Jones. Jones was literally about to take a job with the worst program in the country.
  4. Jones has reportedly called a team meeting for 7:30 a.m. tomorrow. I cannot express how much I want it to be him announcing he's staying at Cincinnati. If he's the hire, we may as well have kept Dooley another year.
  5. The chances of him having any real say in that defense are next to zero - it's Saban's defense. I'm sure he does something well or he wouldn't be on Saban's staff, but I'd like somebody who I know had more control over their side of the ball than Kirby likely has had in Alabama. Sounding like Butch Jones is the frontrunner anyway...... He was about to settle for the worst program in the nation and now we may be about to hire him. If this hire goes through, Jones and Hart better hope they win quick or the 60-80K that were showing up the second half of the season for Dooley are going to look like big crowds really quick.
  6. Yeah, my understanding was that his recruiting has always been good - for his system. There are a number of guys I'd want over RichRod, but I like him much more than guys like Butch Jones and Kirby Smart.
  7. Had they gone for him quickly, I think the fanbase would've gotten behind him, especially since his staff likely would e been SEC-heavy. Now I'm not sure. The fans are getting so restless that I'm afraid they'd see it as settling for an Auburn retread rather than getting a guy with a proven track record. This is a hire I think the fans need to buy into, which is why I'm now promoting the high risk/high reward guys like Petrino and Davis. Purely from a football perspective I'd be pretty happy with Tuberville, but I'd probably prefer just going back to Fulmer first.
  8. Yes Seems like he could work if we ensured he brought in a good dc and didn't use the 3-3-5. My thinking is he never was given enough time to make the roster fit his offense in Michigan.
  9. Just saw on NFL Network that Norv and AJ Smith are gone at the end of the season. It's however many years that Norv's been employed too late, but at least they figured out what was wrong with their franchise.
  10. John Brice of Volquest reporting that Hart has talked to Rich Rodriguez. I know people at Michigan hated him, but I kinda like the idea. Is that desperation talking?
  11. Speculation around here is that he was abou to take the CU job but pulled his name out because he felt he had a shot at Tennessee, Wisconsin or both. My guess is one of the two expressed interest in him. I'm hoping it's not UT.
  12. People have already brought up Johnny Majors and Bill Battle and a popular idea is to imitate K-St and bring back Fulmer. People have no clue what's going on right now.
  13. He's announced that he's not interested in Tennessee. Not sure if that means anything or not but the assumption here is that he's out. Butch Jones and Tommy Tuberville are the hot names right now. I'm really hoping Hart considers somebody else.
  14. I agree Tennessee probably won't pursue them, but they'd be far better options than reaches like Butch Jones or someone similar. I also need to get my obligatory Mike Leach mention in - he won't be considered due to the abuse allegations but he'd be a great hire. Hue Jackson has apparently expressed interest. That possibility has me intrigued since he won't have draft picks to trade for washed up players.
  15. As a TN that makes me sad, but it's still pretty funny.
  16. Pete Thamel of SI reporting that Charlie Strong is staying at Louisville. The way these coaching searches have gone, that probably means he'll be announced shortly. Assuming Thamel is right, just go get Petrino or Davis.
  17. Hard to win many bidding wars against T Boone Pickens? And Papa John's - Louisville is apparently putting together a really hefty extension to keep Strong. I doubted Gundy was a realistic option from the beginning (largely because of T-Boone)and speculation both here and in Oklahoma is that he used Tennessee and Arkansas interest to show OSU administration how valued he is around the country. I'm at the point where if Strong turns us down, I'm all for giving the job to either Petrino or Butch Davis and just hoping they don't do something stupid.
  18. Pretty much any player with NFL-caliber physical tools.
  19. It always makes me wonder what certain coaches and talent scouts see in NCAA prospects because I remember being nothing but unimpressed with McIlroy in college Not that being a 3rd string guy bouncing around for a while counts for a lot, but I'd like someone that at least looked good/ at running an offense at SOME point It's the "winner" tag. People have decided McElroy "just wins games" and so he gets a roster spot over QB who might actually be good.
  20. Gundy turned us down. Louisville is trying to get an extension worked out to keep Strong.
  21. This coaching search may never end. Bruce Feldman of CBS reporting UT has offered the job to Gundy. UL apparently optimistic about Strong staying.
  22. Chris Low isn't saying it's done, but he's making it sound like it's all but done. He's saying it'll be announced tomorrow and will be worth $3.75 million. Also rumors that the offensive staff will remain largely the same. I like this hire. It's not a big, flashy hire but Strong's a good coach who will bring in a really good staff. If he keeps Jay Graham, Sam Pittman and Jim Chaney, all the better.
  23. Three years ago when we hired Dooley, that's how it was - we were offering to any warm body. Now, however, we've not gone down Hart's list very far (most think we're still at the top of the list). what with all the winning in the last three seasons... It was the timing before - Lane left a week or two before signing day and pretty much every other position had been filled. Nobody wanted to leve their program in that kind of a lurch. Now we're working on a normal schedule and there's plenty of interest.
  24. The Arkansas Democrat Gazette is currently reporting both that Gundy has been hired and someone besides Gundy has been hired. THE SAME [expletive] NEWSPAPER! Haha, that's fantastic. That's how the Tennessee search has gone this year - 2 reliable radio people on the same show have had sources saying different things.
  25. Arkansas radio reporting Gundy hired by Arkansas. This is fun.
