  1. And a number of the players they cut will probably be able to start on major conference 1-A teams. On the flip side, Southern Cal is down to 6 EEs and 4 verbal commits with 1-2 of those commits wavering. They could go from 17 commits and #1 ranking in July to 8 signed players. Egads. That does make me happy. I was very happy to see Jalen Ramsey flip to FSU.
  2. Then dont say say it. Bama doesnt dominate its own conference (which you dont consider a dominant conference). They have 5 conference loses in the last 3 years. What USC used to do to the pac ten in the mid 00s was dominating a conference. Bama is in the middle of a great run but it's getting overblown. As others have said - 3 BCS titles in 4 years, 5 conference losses in 5 years and a host of first round NFL talent every year. That's dominant.
  3. Haha, Bama's on a completely different level than even SEC teams. The SEC is no longer a dominant conference, but Bama is a dominant program (under Saban). And I really, really hate to say that.
  4. The obsession in player evaluation over players with Super Bowl rings is really ridiculous. Prior to the playoffs, Joe Flacco was an inconsistent quarterback who probably shouldn't receive a large contract extension after the season. Four games later - and primarily only because he now has a championship ring - he's being mentioned in numerous outlets as on par with Peyton, Brady, Brees and Rodgers. Nothing has changed significantly with Flacco - he's still a good but not great, inconsistent QB. Just putting a ring on his finger doesn't change that.

  6. I'm also hearing that ford will sign with au. I hope you get bell and keep him away from bama. Most recent report has Vonn as a slight Ohio St lean, but he's been changing his mind each day. I'm still hoping we can pull Bell and flip Levenberry and Josh Dobbs. That'd make for an ok class, but nothing that convinces me Butch was the right hire.
  7. How so? Chris Price is my name. Haha, didn't realize that. I can see where it would be weird then.
  8. Jabo Lee committed to Tennessee today. There's speculation that means Ford is a lock for Auburn. Without a couple major breaks (Bell and Levenberry) this is shaping up to be a really lackluster class.
  9. Chris Price is saying that Ford's personal preference is Tennessee, but he's got a lot of influential people around him pushing Auburn. He's announcing at 11 a.m. Wednesday and Price said he didn't think anybody would know anything for sure until then. Jay Graham - Tennessee's best recruiter and the guy responsible for North's commitment and Levenberry's very serious interest - is a huge Ford fan and recruiting him very hard. Tennessee's also in the top 2 for RB Jabo Lee, but he's a 3 star and I'm guessing is primarily a fallback in case we miss on Ford.
  10. Eh, I don't have a big problem with that view. I do think the stuff is stupid, so I'll agree with you.
  11. I don't read it or watch that stuff when it's on TV, but if the player grants the interview then it would seem he's willing to talk about it - and some like talking about it. It's dumb, but some people like that "human interest" type angle. It's the critical, admonishing tone that Reilly took in the article that I have a real problem with. That's garbage.
  12. I don't have a problem with Reilly doing that type of a "fluff" piece on Kaepernick and pointing out that he's adopted, doesn't know his birth parents and doesn't really want to and why, but then to basically criticize him for not wanting to know is pretty bad. That read like Reilly was trying to be an amateur psychologist and was treating Kaepernick like there was something wrong with him. Really weird.
  13. Heathcliff Slocumb for me. Rick Wilkins... we hardly knew ye. His 1993 was pretty [expletive] amazing I always like Vizcaino and Terry Mulholland for some reason.
  14. 4/5* WR Marquez North committed to Tennessee last night. That takes a bit of the sting out of missing on Green. Even better news is that Vonn Bell is apparently helping current commits Jason Carr and Paul Harris to recruit Carl Lawson. If Butch can manage North/Bell/Lawson and one or both of EJ Levenberry and Davin Bellamy, I'll start feeling better about him.
  15. That's what I'm thinking. Which is awesome, because the only reservation I had about Bourn was the contract (both dollars and years).
  16. Lawson is definitely sounding like an Auburn lean again. Rodney Garner has really worked wonders with him (or just paid him). In good recruiting news for Tennessee, it sounds like we're in the lead for Vonn Bell. That's be a huge get that Dooley screwed up and Butch is trying to fix.
  17. And me having just wasted the Gruden joke. There's gotta be more. I figured you had a folder full of them. More like a binder full more like a file cabinet (wait, are these jokes funny at all?) I don't know, ask Jon Gruden.
  18. And me having just wasted the Gruden joke. There's gotta be more. I figured you had a folder full of them.
  19. Facility renovations are the biggest reason for that. We committed to all the facility upgrades just before we fired Fulmer and the program went in the toilet. That's part of why this hire was so important - we have to start winning now.
  20. When you can't a chance to play for Gruden you have to get on it. It's all coming together. Kiel is just part of the grand conspiracy that will bring Gruden to Knoxville. Butch Jones is just an elaborate smokescreen.
  21. Cowboys hire Derek Dooley as WR coach. Glad to see Dooley land on his feet, but that's quite a soap opera he's signed on with.
  22. Late in Dooley's tenure some of the reports coming out made it sound like he was favoring Tennessee a bit. When Butch took over, though, Michigan got the lead and never gave it up. I could be wrong on which way he was leaning, but it definitely seemed like we lost a decent bit of ground when Butch took over and never could regain it.
  23. Titans are apparently interested in hiring Gregg Williams as a defensive assistant. We've not been accused of playing dirty or head-hunting for 2-3 years, so this is probably a necessary move. I especially like it since it likely would mean Jerry Gray has a quick hook next year.
  24. I don't mean to make Dooley sound like some great recruiter (he wasn't), but even the guys I felt we had a really good shot at (Green, Marquez North) with him here are waffling pretty significantly (or have already committed elsewhere). It's been nice to have guys like Vonn Bell and Carl Lawson start showing some interest in us with Butch here, but both are still longshots and we're losing guys (Green is gone and North is 50/50 at best by recent reports) that were at least UT leans under Dooley. I really want to like this hire, but there's currently nothing to indicate hiring Butch was anything but shooting for steady mediocrity.
