  1. There's two reasons I think Saban would consider leaving for the right position: 1) He's never been one to stay in one place for a long time. He's hit his max time spent at one coaching position, so it's possible he's wanting to make another move. 2) He (like most all college coaches) is a proud man who doesn't like failure. He failed in the NFL and he very well may want another crack at it to prove he can do it. That doesn't mean I think he'd jump at any NFL offer, but for the right situation I don't think it's completely unrealistic to think he may jump.
  2. The funniest thing about that (to me) is that Saban has been getting raided. He's lost 3-4 assistants the past 2 seasons (Sunseri, McElwain, Pruitt, and I think one other) and teams have been trying hard for Kirby Smart, he just hasn't been terribly interested in leaving.
  3. I wasn't crazy about the hire for Cleveland when it was just Chudzinski, but add Norv in and it's a really nice hire.
  4. Browns just hired Rob Chudzinski so there goes a suitor for Saban. Yeah, figured it was an extreme longshot anyway.
  5. It has an impact, it just means nothing as far as what it's supposed to. Just because a guy wins the Heisman doesn't mean he's deserving of it (or even close to deserving, Mark Ingram). That does t mean people don care about it, though (even though they shouldn't).
  6. I'm still holding out that tiny bit of hope that the Browns and Bears take Saban and Muschamp out of the SEC a couple weeks before NSD.
  7. Just thought I'd point out that the Heisman is a completely worthless award. It literally has no meaning to anything.
  8. Recruiting bases are critical in college football success and Texas A&M has its base in Texas. That coupled with the notoriety now of being in the SEC and out of Texas/Oklahoma's shadow, I think, will give them a great opportunity to be really good consistently. 11-12 wins every year and on the level of Alabama? Probably not, but I think an 8-win per season average is probably too low. Assuming they either keep Sumlin or add another really good coach should he leave. If he goes to the NFL or something and they hire John L. Smith, then 8-4 is probably very optimistic.
  9. Yeah, Saban is just better than every coach out there. I think that's the lesson to take from the past 2 BCS title games and the Michigan game. He can find weaknesses and holes and exploit them more successfully than anyone else and, when given extra time, he's borderline unbeatable.
  10. Not a big surprise after Jags assistant coaches were told they could seek other employment recently. Probably a good move too.
  11. I would be thrilled if the Titans fired Jerry Gray and hired Rob Ryan. Would be a huge upgrade.
  12. Other than my own team losing, there's noting I like less in sports than Alabama or Florida winning so I can't get on board with the SEC-love fest. I derive 0 pleasure from Bama's win.
  13. Tennessee got 4* WR Ryan Jenkins to switch from Clemson yesterday. He's only 5'10, but he's lightning fast and will fit Butch's system perfectly. 5* DL Carl Lawson is also scheduled to visit on the 18th. He's a former (current?) Auburn commit and Tennessee's apparently in his top two now. If Butch can find a way to pull Lawson, Derrick Green and (pure hope) Vonn Bell, he'll begin to turn me into a bit of a believer.
  14. If Rick Porcello is the best player we're getting in this deal, I wouldn't be at all happy about giving up Garza. Marmol sure, Garza no.
  15. Huh, forgot he was taken that low.
  16. Granted I don't know much about Ziggy Ansah, but I have trouble seeing a scenario where the Titans take a pass rusher in the first round not named Jarvis Jones with him still on the board and me being happy. Also, no Bray/Hunter/Patterson in the first round? I don't buy it.
  17. He definitely had great production, but my point was that evidence points to it at least partially being a product of the system. I don't doubt that TD was a very talented back, bu much like I said earlier about Arian Foster, I don't think he was as good as the numbers. I think Shanahan's zone blocking scheme that has turned duds (Mike Anderson, Olandis Gary, Alfred Morris, etc) into highly productive backs made a good running back great with TD. That was my point.
  18. The Bengals/Texans game was at least competitive, but yeah, this set of games hasn't lived up to its potential.
  19. Apparently RGIII may not be as recovered as we thought he was.
  20. Good point. If Dennison were to bring the same zone scheme to Chicago, though, the Bears likely would be able to move away from Forte once it became financially worth it to do so. Other than Portis, I'm not sure Shanahan has ever had a "great" back, but he always has a really good run game. And while I think Arian is a talented back, he's not nearly as good as he's been in Houston. With that scheme, you can go cheap at RB and still be productive, opening you up to spending more money elsewhere.
  21. If Dennison brings the Shanahan/Kubiak zone blocking scheme with him, running the ball isn't necessarily a bad thing or being ultra-conservative. This is the same scheme that has made guys like Olandis Gary, Mike Anderson, Arian Foster, and Alfred Morris really good backs. I have no idea what Dennison will do, but the Shanahan/Kubiak run game isn't run three times into the line and punt.
  22. Bruce Arians in the hospital now and will miss today's game.
  23. Chip Kelly met with the Eagles for, basically, the entire day and night from the sound of it. He cancelled a second meeting with the Browns as a result. Michael Lombardi now reporting it's Eagles, Browns, or Oregon for Kelly.
  24. I'd certainly want to be 100% for Sam Steele.
