  1. I don't know that there's anything to Marshall's struggles being attributed to fatigue, but last year through June he had thrown 20 innings for the Cubs. This year through June, he had thrown 54 innings for the Cubs. In 2008 Marshall threw 32.1 IP for Iowa through June. He didn't go down this year. His workload was the same. Ah, I didn't remember he got demoted last year. Thanks.
  2. Like Andres Blanco? ...and someone who can hit. That's why I said that. Good SS prospects who are amazing fielders and can hit aren't exactly common. I don't think we're getting Elvis Andrus or Alicedes Escobar for Zambrano and both of those guys are suspect hitters anyway. There's always Brandon Wood. .895 career minor league OPS, but I don't know how well he fields. Not advocating that trade by the way. Just throwing out a top SS prospect who can hit.
  3. I love Tennessee and I don't like human polls, but this one's hard to defend. I realize they'll likely plummet after Saturday, but they're putting this much weight into blowing out Western Kentucky?

  5. That's not the case at all. There are a very limited amount of clubs who could afford him. I'd go so far as to say that if the Cubs trade him, they'll be picking up a portion of his salary or they won't be getting much talent in return. Either case is going to make them a weaker team. Yeah, there aren't plenty of teams that can take on $18 million for anybody. Even less will take on that kind of money and give away valuable talent as well. Roy Halladay wasn't traded for that exact reason. The Jays wanted teams to give up valuable talent and take on his entire contract and nobody would do both. And Halladay is most definitely an ace.
  6. Agreed. $11-12 mill per for a player who has very little power? No thanks. Figgins seems to be the Juan Pierre of this yr's class. He's better than Pierre because he has a better OBP and better patience. But I wouldn't give him $11-12 a year. I prefer the other potential 2b FA that plays in the LA area. Hudson? I'd be interested in him too.

  8. I know, it's Olney, but I figured I'd post it anyway. If Figgins wants $11-12 per year, we shouldn't even listen. Figgins interests me, but not at that price.
  9. Yeah, he's been a very good pitcher for a while now and will only be 29 next year. I'd be more than happy to keep him, but if we got a very good deal for him, plus had his salary to work with, I wouldn't ignore it.
  10. Lilly has been as much the ace of the staff as Z has been the past three years. I don't know how much stock I put in these reports, but if we got a very good return on Zambrano and didn't have to pay any of his salary, I might have an interest. He'll just be 29 next year, though, so I wouldn't be in a hurry to trade him.
  11. Lee's 2008 was 40 points of OPS worse than his first year as a Cub. His 2008 OPS was also 20 points worse than any season he's had since 2001. And the season he OPSd .842, he only played 50 games and was hurt (when Furcal ran into him and he missed most of the year). So, in full seasons since 2001, his 2008 OPS was 40 points lower than any other year. That's not par for the course.
  12. I remember those types of expectations, but they were pretty high end. And he's done a pretty good job of coming close to those high end expectations this year. .261/.374/.429/.802 are his numbers this year. Those numbers have him as the 6th best center fielder in baseball this year and he has the second best OBP of all ML center fielders. Only two CFs are OPSing better than the .855 you wanted from Kosuke – Torii Hunter and Matt Kemp. Everyone else is at least 30 points below that number.
  13. The Titans could use a win this week with Indy and New England coming in a few weeks. The Texans didn't look particularly sharp against the Jets and the Titans are the superior team, so hopefully we play that way.
  14. They should've gone with Mike Ditka in the late game for the triple Mike booth.
  15. That had some potential.
  16. Pats haven't converted third and fourth downs from what I've seen. They've had some drives, but couldn't finish them off.
  17. They didn't look out of sync on that drive at all.
  18. They're no SuperCharger powder blue, but I like them.
  19. Patriots have just looked out of sync tonight. I think Brady's still a bit out of rhythm with his receivers right now.
  20. I see what they're saying, but at the same time the whistle blew a couple times before he started the whole takedown throw. And because the whistle had already blown a couple times, there were many other ways to bring down Edwards without drawing the penalty. Was the takedown after the whistle? If so, I can better understand the penalty. I had the TV on mute (was on the phone) and didn't hear whistles.
  21. I agree with Gruden here completely. Players have to be able to tackle the quarterback and only allowing delicate tackles is not a good idea.
  22. At some point, QBs are just going to wear the red jerseys in games.
  23. I would like Uggla, but I seem to remember the Marlins were asking for quite a bit for him. Those demands might drop, but I wouldn't give up a ton for him. He'll slug very well (for a second baseman), get on base at a decent enough clip and play only below average defense. He might be too expensive, though, at nearly $6 million.
  24. The big difference between Figgins and Miles is patience. Figgins is much more valuable than Miles because he's a much more patient hitter and displays a much better OBP. Figgins has a career .363 OBP and hasn't been below .367 in the past three years. He also has a career .071 IsoD. Miles, on the other hand, has a career .322 OBP and has had a better OBP than .367 only twice in his career. His career IsoD is .041. I'm not advocating giving Figgins a big deal here, but there's little chance he becomes Aaron Miles.
  25. lol, what the hell else can they do? mccown is out for the year. Is McCown out for the year? I hadn't heard that. They put him on IR today. Matt Moore! Hmm, I was unaware of this. They could have signed Jeff Garcia, but he's now signed on with Philly. Apparently, the Panthers did sign AJ Feeley. . .
