  1. lol, what the hell else can they do? mccown is out for the year. Is McCown out for the year? I hadn't heard that.
  2. Delhomme will remain the starter in Carolina.
  3. If Brooks has anything left I think he's a better option than a young, inexperienced player at this point. If Brooks can still cover ground well enough, he has both the on-field experience and the experience in the Cover 2 system to be far superior than a more athletic young player. The question is, does Brooks have anything left? If he doesn't, then the young player would be the better option. I think Brooks would be worth a look from the Bears, though. I doubt he does, because if he did somebody would have already signed him. Probably true, but other teams have missed on players in the past. He's worth a look even if they don't sign him.

  5. He was retiring. Not sure how much he has left. Last I heard, Thomas hadn't officially retired and was still looking for a team. No idea what he has left, though. I'd rather see an athletic guy off of a team's practice squad than Thomas. At least with Brooks, he's familiar with the cover 2. With Thomas, I'm not sure how much he's been around it. Yeah, I think Brooks is a better option than Thomas for the Bears. Just pointing out that Thomas could still be an option and that he isn't retired.

  7. Half the teams don't play anybody until then. We'd basically end up with the preseason preview magazine polls restated, minus any team that gets upset. Yeah, and I'm sure there would be many voters who had their own poll (or used the coaches poll) and adjusted it each week instead of assessing after 5-6 weeks. But at least waiting to release the polls would give the illusion that it's a bit more accurate. While I think that's the best way, I don't think there's a good way to run a sport based off of subjective opinions. Well, they used to run the BCS mostly off statistical analysis, but people's subjective opinions had their feelings hurt. I'd probably prefer the BCS not include any human polls. At the same time, though, I'm not a fan of the BCS either.

  9. The best option here is to just not have polls until week 5-6 or so.
  10. It's pretty normal for the SEC. UGA/SC have played week 2 for at least 2 seasons now and I think a few more. UT/UF always play week 3, LSU/Vandy always seem to play early in the year, etc. They didn't the last two years but in 2004-06 Florida State and Miami played to start the year. Good point.
  11. Good luck beating the Steelers this week, and then go to Seattle. We'll probably win one but not both. still every team has a game like this where nothing goes right. The Titans looked absolutely awful in their first game against the Ravens last year and finished the year with 13 wins. It happens.
  12. Yes it was, thats not picked off if Knox doesnt stop on that route Right. If Knox continues running that's in a good spot for him to catch it. But even if he does catch it, there's an immediate tackle after a 5 yard gain with the clock running. Harris was already jumping the route. Knox stopping made it an easy pick but it wasn't a sure thing even if he finishes his route. That's true, but Cutler's only other option was to throw it away. However, if Knox is able to break the tackle by Harris, he's on an island and runs for quite a while. Small likelihood that Knox breaks it, granted.

  14. No reason not to go for two. There's no difference whatsoever at this point between a 4 and 5 point lead - but there is one between a 5 point lead and a 6 point lead. However minimal it might be.

  16. This is just a guess, but the coaching staff may have given the long snapper the ability to audible (using that signal) if he sees something. Not sure why you'd do that, but it's an option.
  17. That fake punt was definitely an audible by the center.
  18. The only questions about Saturday's game is how reasonable can the defense keep the margin. I think the defense will do a very admirable job against Florida and would likely support an offensive strategy of running the ball every play. We have 4 very good running backs - we might as well use them Saturday.
  19. Mario Manningham just had a nice run after the catch for a Giants TD.
  20. And yet somehow the game clock has changed from 38 seconds to 20 during the extra point with no explanation. It's just been changed back to 38 seconds. Toward the end of the first half of the UCD game last night, a timeout was called with 1:19 on the clock. UCD's stadium has a timeout clock that takes the place of the actual game clock and starts at 1:45. Somebody started that and the refs saw it counting down, thought it was the game clock, said to stop it, which they did. The refs then, still thinking it was the game clock, put 11 seconds back on. When the timeout was over, there was 1:30 on the clock. It didn't matter as nobody scored but I noticed it right away and wondered why nobody said anything since Montana was in scoring position at the time. Haha, that's awesome.
  21. Orton just threw one down the left sideline, it was tipped in the air by a Bengal and then caught by Stokley. He then took it all the way for a touchdown. What a crazy play. Gus Johnson is absolutely going crazy.
  22. Royal takes it out of the end zone and then slips at the 12.

  24. He hasn't looked that good, but his decision making hasn't been particularly bad either. He's been missing some open receivers, though.
  25. And then Brees hits a 60-yard TD pass to Henderson for a one-play scoring drive. Crazy.
