  1. While that's true, it's not going to happen it appears.
  2. It's not splitting hairs, though. You said DLee doesn't care about winning because he didn't want to go from the Cubs to the Angels and you backed it up by misrepresenting the difference in situations of the Cubs and Angels. Both teams are within striking distance of a playoff spot if they go on a torrid pace, but neither is likely to reach the playoffs. DLee would be going from one team likely to miss the playoffs to another team likely to miss the playoffs.
  3. He had bad numbers there this year, but he's young for the league and got some terrible BABIP luck. He was heating up when he got hurt, lending credence to the idea that he had potentially figured out AA. The injury keeps us from knowing for sure this year, however. But again, considering how young he is, he still has ample time to develop and still be on a normal track.
  4. Yeah, I'd offer Pujols close to whatever he wanted. No chance the Cards let him into free agency though.
  5. We're not a last place team – there are two teams currently behind us in the standings. The Angels are also only 6 games better than us and still 8.5 games out of first place, currently sitting in third place in their division. Going to the Angels would only put DLee in a marginally better position to make the playoffs.
  6. Jorge Cantu, Ty Wigginton, Brad Hawpe and Michael Cuddyer can also play first.
  7. Why would it be a significant benefit if Pujols moved to 2nd? In that scenario, it seems like you're lineup is the same as if you batted Pujols 3rd and kept everything else normal, except the pitcher gets a few more PAs and there is the potential for fewer guys on base before Pujols in the first inning.
  8. Daytona this year: .316/.420/.517/.937 Tennessee this year: .269/.378/.419/.798 Overall this year: .303/.409/.492/.901 He's 21 years old this year and has a combined 89:57 K:BB ratio. He was rated the 74th best prospect in baseball by Baseball America before the season. He projects to be (I believe) an above average defensive center fielder as well.
  9. Add a World Series title to that and I agree completely.
  10. Yeah, that was before I saw how much Junior Lake is destroying the minors in the second half. I like your dream.
  11. So going by the Happ/Lilly rumors, if we make a deal with the Dodgers, it appears the focus would be on a major league ready pitcher (perhaps + a prospect or two). If that's the case, would we be looking at John Ely or Scott Elbert? Are there better options or would either or both be a good return for Lilly?
  12. Exactly what the problem was with each was different, but they were all either mechanical issues (Dempster tipping pitches) or a pitcher changing his approach (Silva, Marquis). Really, though, the important bond between the three is that they were all underperforming when they arrived in Chicago and Larry fixed all three (among others). I don't know if he could do the same with Happ, but if there's any improvement to be had for Happ, I'd be really confident Rothschild could get it out. The major league ready arms we have in the minors is definitely a reason not to do the deal, though.
  13. First non-commissioner to re-join! That probably makes me a nerd.
  14. Does anybody know what kind of stuff Happ has? Is it possible that Rothschild could work with him and tweak his approach or mechanics to improve him? Rothschild has gotten a number of major league pitching acquisitions (Dempster, Silva, Marquis, etc) putting up better numbers than most anyone expected. Could he do the same with Happ, or does Happ simply not have the stuff to be more than a back of the rotation guy?
  15. Are the Angels in a pennant race? They're 8.5 out, one less than the Cubs.
  16. Wells 2010 FIP: 3.29 Wells 2010 xFIP: 3.71 Wells 2010 K/BB: 95:33 Wells 2010 WAR: 2.9 Pretty solid all the way around.
  17. [expletive] you Hendry Umm, he's a 10 and 5 guy dude. He could block regardless of Hendry's doings. +1 What was Hendry going to do? He had no leverage whatsoever. Yeah, the NTCs are meaningless at this point for Lee and Ramirez (at least as far as the Cubs are concerned). Both players can block trades using their 10/5 rights.
  18. If we offer him arbitration and he refuses, then yes. Right now, he's pretty assuredly a Type B free agent (sandwich round pick only), but with a big second half he could become a Type A free agent (we get other team's first round pick so long as it's later than 15 plus we get a sandwich round pick).
  19. Good point. I can see it more for position players than relievers, I guess. I think I just found it odd because of what I think of when I hear overpaid.
  20. I guess when I hear overpriced I'm thinking he's underperformed his contract for more than one year – meaning he's likely struggled for 2-3+ years. I probably wouldn't want to target a guy like that.
  21. Buying low on a reliever isn't a bad idea. But if he's overpriced and you're trying to make the playoffs, I'm not sure how good an idea it is. I just find the overpriced part interesting. I guess big market teams can do that stuff, but that seems like a weird attribute to target. I like buying low on a reliever who your scouts believe has the stuff to improve, though.
