  1. I could definitely see a waiver deal for Nady or Baker. I wonder, though, what the plans are for DeWitt. If they see him as the second baseman of the future, they'll likely look to deal Fontenot. However, if they see DeWitt as more of a utility type 2B/3B backup, they may choose to keep Fontenot.
  2. I can't explain why this is the case, but apparently cost for relievers has been incredibly high this trade deadline. The Nationals got Wilson Ramos for Matt Capps (from a pretty intelligent Minnesota organization), the Blue Jays couldn't trade Frasor/Downs/Gregg because they were demanding so much for them and Dotel netted potentially more than Lilly/Theriot did. Market value means a ton in these types of deals and, for whatever reason, teams seemed to value relievers much more highly than starters this deadline.
  3. Yeah, the Archer/Gaub/Stevens trio is looking really good and Jose Ceda had a lot of potential as well if he could've kept his weight in check. Hendry likes his raw, high potential pitchers and that looks like what we got here.
  4. DeWitt only has just over a year of major league service time, meaning we've got him cheap for a while and under team control for longer. He's also only 24 (turning 25) so he could develop a bit more. Trading Fontenot would make sense, but I don't know that any team still is looking for a middle infielder.
  5. Wallach has struck out 11 and 9.8 batters per nine innings and scouts are saying he has enough really good pitches to continue to improve. He really looks like an older version of Chris Archer, and that's not bad. Not an exciting return, but I'm ok with it. About what I figured, though I hoped we'd get another starter rather than Smit.
  6. DeWitt: #82 prospect in baseball in 2006 Dodgers #8 prospect in 2005, #7 in 2006, #8 in 2007 and #5 in 2008.
  7. Still possible. DeWitt, Aaron Miller and Jerry Sands would be really, really good.
  8. Anything about Theriot? Nope. Just said his sources say Lilly will be a Dodger in 30 minutes. A Stark tweet, though:
  9. Not sure. There's only about 100 games to use with UZR, but it says he's about a -7 defender while Johnson is a -3 defender. That would sway me a bit toward Johnson, if accurate. That said, my main reasoning in favoring DeWitt slightly is that he's three years younger and will be cheap for significantly longer. Johnson will cost $5+ million next year through arbitration and then will be a free agent. Johnson has been much better in the majors so far (.793 OPS vs .719) however. Biggest advantage to DeWitt is that he's young and can improve and will be cheap for a while, whereas Johnson will likely be overpaid by 2012. Johnson's been better, however, and likely will be the better offensive player.
  10. Gammons just said on MLB Network that Lilly will be a Dodger within 30 minutes.
  11. He's a better option at 2B than Fontenot, Theriot, or Baker. I'd happily take him in exchange for Theriot/Russell. I don't know that I'd want him over DeWitt, though.
  12. He's played 2 games for the Dodgers this year and currently has a .726 OPS in AAA as a 26 year old.
  13. If reports are right it seems that Hendry is trying to package Theriot in the Lilly deal with the Dodgers in order to get Dewitt back as part of the package. The Johnson thing probably is the back up plan if he can't get the Dodgers deal to work out. Either way I think he is motivated to deal Theriot since otherwise he would probably non tender him in the offseason and would then get nothing back for him except a lot of negative press about letting such a "gamer" go. Could we then maybe flip DeWitt for Johnson? If Hendry's preference is to include Theriot in the Dodger deal to get DeWitt, then that means Hendry values DeWitt higher than Johnson. Otherwise, he'd just go ahead and do Theriot/Russell for Johnson now.
  14. You would be correct. They have Yonder Alonso, who has been ranked #35 prospect in America in 2009 and #45 in 2010. He only has a .282/.358/.437/.795 line in the minors, but he's only 23 in AAA.
  15. They do still have Bourn and Bourgeois.
  16. Looking like a bad deal for the Astros early on. MLBTR
